- Reviewed on PC by Ryan McCaffrey. Note that this review is exclusively focused on Doom Eternal's single-player campaign. The multiplayer mode, Battlemode, won't be available until launch on March 20, so we'll review it separately and then issue our final Doom Eternal score ASAP after that.

They turned Doom Slayer into The Predator. The wrist blade, the shoulder mounted canon, the armor style, the head trophies, etc... And I love it.

@@DenkyManner All optional. You can go through a level without bothering yourself about the lore. I played DOOM 2016 on Ultra nightmare and I still don't know a lot of lore about it. That's how DOOM always has been. It doesn't shove pointless things in your face.

Scores, kinda like money, does not get their value by someone's decree. Rather the value of the score is dictated over time by the games assigned to that score.

@@dr.strangeglove1734 the *base* game consists of being heavily outnumbered at almost any given moment and requires fast reflexes and extreme accuracy to overcome, especially on UV or above. Considering lag of any kind could be the difference between hitting a weak spot or the air behind it, performance is pretty important. Also, music has been pretty important since arcade cabinets. Before the NES even came out. Saying the music of this game isn't important is like saying Megaman 2 didn't need a soundtrack. Young gamers probably don't understand how awesome *that* soundtrack is, either.

@@e1iteyoshi998 Not really, one they stated more reasons than what you listed. Also different people review the games so enough with this "The gave COD a 9" cry baby stuff. Especially since the last game to get a 9 was Advanced Warfare. The other games have scored between 7 and 8.5. Lastly Doom and Call of Duty are FPS games but they offer vastly different experiences and expectations.
E1ite Yoshi The guy who reviewed this game is Ryan McCaffrey and he was actually supposed to review the original doom 2016 but things came up and didn’t fit with the schedule. So he wasn’t able to review it and they got someone else(a freelancer if I remember correctly) and he has said multiple times on his Xbox podcast unlocked that he did not agree with the review whatsoever and felt like it should’ve been a 9 out of 10. Also it’s funny you say 9 out of 10 that year when cod that year got a 7.7 out of 10 and didn’t receive much praise.

Amazing, how ID managed to resurrect and polish the spirit of classic Doom.
Except they didn't. This game is a hack-and-slash puzzle-solver. There are ZERO similarities to the classic doom games.

4:56 You just know that if there had been any more cutscenes in the game, then they would have complained about that "interrupting the action". Reading codex entries means it's there if you want it, and can be utterly ignored if you don't. This puerile "ugh, _reading!"_ complaint gets on my nerves. It shouldn't be so difficult for anyone who passed 3rd grade.
The complaint is that the games story shouldn't be told to you primarily via lore entries/text log, there should be actual storytelling. This complaint is rather popular for Destiny as well.
@@thedarklordx Except Destiny doesn't have a whole slew of "purist" fans that believe there should be NO cutscenes whatsoever in the game. Heck, those same knobheads complained about the about 1 or 2 minutes total in Doom 2016 that had exposition.
Judging by other reviews, it sounds like there are one too many cutscenes already. I'm not here for a story dammit, doom 2016 had about much story as I could want from a game of its type
@@harrylane4 Well, you are one of the few. It's safe to say that most players are pretty happy with getting more Doom story, and more of the Doomslayer being awesome in 3rd person as well as 1st person.
@@harrylane4 I was concerned about that but really there's not much to worry about. Cutscenes are very few in numbers. I saw a gameplay video and there were only 2 major cutscenes for the first 45 minutes. It's almost the same as previous DOOM 2016. Besides, the text scrolls you pick up are optional. I never read the lore of Doom 2016 either.
Well deserved high praise from IGN, but I can’t see a world where this game doesn’t get a perfect 10... I just finished playing through and this is some of the best FPS action of all time.
it does'nt deserve a 10 because the story was'nt told in cinematics. If it had been this game would have been better than Halo and would have been a 10.

How are files to read an issue? They give story to those who want it, and don’t bother those who want pure gameplay. Cutscenes and tons of exposition bother the latter half of players

It's not a dichotomy. You can also have stories told in real time gameplay rather than pre rendered stuff.

To think Call of Duty was the dominant FPS ten years ago. We could have had stuff like this sooner if it weren’t for the “Brown Shooter” craze.
This review is so weak... they don’t talk about graphics, loading screen, texture generation latency, deep gameplay experience, how immersive the story was. They basically focus always on just combat... Just keep playing Fortnite and COD please. The majority of IGN reviewers doesn’t deserve their jobs.

How to watch an ign review: watch with the sound off and treat the number at the end as if it came from a random number generator thats heavily weighed towards the number 8. Just enjoy the gameplay
This was a well written and well made review by IGN. Perfectly explains the game at what it does best and where it could have done better... sadly they didn't mention anything about the music. Doom eternal has a nice sound track guys perfectly fits the scenes it puts you in.

The Scorpion "get over here" chain is new. It's such a game changer it does kind of make it feel like a new weapon.
Read the pages you pick up that tell the story. It's epic and keeps getting better. The sound is superb, tons of grin inducing little details, so full of bass. The soundtrack amps you up at just the right moments, well done. My favorite part is the art style. I loved just poring over the settings, beautiful lighting and atmosphere, the look of the monsters, weapons, and Doom guy himself. The game starts out intense, scary, and heart pounding. Then you get the hang of it, and you just feel like a total badass ripping and tearing through hordes of monsters!
I'm so happy that I pre-ordered this game! Doom 2016 was an absolute blast and this will be even better!! 3 more days to go man!! 3 more days!

7 is a decent score and it's well reviewed, Doom 2016 is a basic mindless shooter which has it's charm in it's own way but when we talk about replay value it must be almost zero. 7 is the right score.

For some reason this gives me pretty heavy Metroid Prime series vibes. Its more or less what Metroid would be on XBOX/PS. Absolute blast but pretty tough. 🥵

1 Marauder: Survives 2 *BFG SHOTS* and isnt affected by the Hellblade.
Yeah, I hate that thing, not because he's difficult, the Marauder has a very easy pattern to exploit, I just don't know how to deal with him when there's like 5 other demons shooting at me. This game is still away above a 10/10, the rating system can not limit the Slayer!

After looking at some negative Steam reviews... I'm not so sure about this being a day-1 pickup.
- Low ammo
- Weird UI
- Clunky glory kills
- More cutscenes that also take control away from you
- Pushy tutorials
- Meaningless progression system
Those were the main issues mentioned.
Dude the game right now has 88% positive, for me that’s enough to buy it.
Plus most of those complaints are either because they don’t turn off tutorials/cutscenes or don’t know how to use the chainsaw lol
Also the “progression system” it’s the season for the cosmetics you play the campaign/multiplayer and you get experience, each level you unlock a cosmetic.
Less ammo is 100% intentional by the devs, this game is all about resource managment.
Also the ui can be adjusted to your liking. Im guessing these reviews just never bothered to go into the settings.

I gotta say this game has saved me during this virus. I completed it in my 14 day lock down. Mad props to the producers on this one, they came out with a 10/10 game. Like it’s non stop, you have to use skill and that’s what I enjoy.

I like that they play that straight by also giving an in-universe justification for the "unstoppable FPS protagonist" trope: you're not a normal person at all. You might have been at one point in the past, but even the previous game starts with you being resurrected from Hell. Doomguy can kill hordes of demons by himself because he's imbued with superhuman powers in-universe.

Looks awesome. You might be able to ignore the imps on the normal setting of Doom 2016 but on nightmare you really need to prioritize them as they are the most dangerous enemies in the game on that setting. Will be interesting to see what challenges this game brings on nightmare.
I don’t know why people have the issue with ammo in this game it’s just a matter of strategically using the chainsaw at the right time

@@Booyaka9000 I suppose success can be defined in various ways, but I'd say, technically speaking, Doom 2016 was very successful, Doom VFR did pretty well, and now Doom Eternal has also been very successful.

Doom at its core had amazing lore but it wasn’t a narrative based game. The gameplay came first and the narrative came last. That’s the games charm.
I dont get people who complain about reading codex pages considering they are optional collectables. That automatically means they arent essential to the campaign's narrative.
Can’t disagree with the logs more. Loved reading the lore behind this game. I was stoked every time I picked up something for the codex.
