Yes, yes it does. Disproving a theory invalidates it. It's a fundamental part of what makes a theory a theory. It can be a good fanfic. Or an entertaining what-if scenario. Or even just an entertaining idea. But a good theory can only ever be a theory that hasn't been disproven. Because that's the most important part of that word's meaning.
@@dontmisunderstand6041 I would care to note that the theory definition you are using is much more commonly used for scientific theories, which generally follow a different structure and overall purpose then that of a narrative theory. While the best of narrative theories do come to fruition, the don’t all necessarily have to be a good work of theory crafting. Even if this doesn’t specifically all happen, that doesn’t take away from, or discredit, everything that does make this a plausible theory as of now. That’s just my two cents though
Plot twist: usopp never actually lied in the start of his journey but actually had completely superb advanced observation haki. Fits him also as the sniper of the crew. Damn you Oda mega troll.

This theory actually connects with the one Ohara published recently. For example, he said One Piece is underground and Mark just mirrored Laugh Tale with Goemon's island. Goemon's island had a fake treasure on an elevated terrain, it is only logical that the inverted version is THE treasure underground.

Yeah I think Ohara might be fairly accurate on what will thematicaly "go down" on Elbaf. Also I think the inversion of Buggy's cannon might be the Sunny becoming the real Pluton for the Strawhat crew.
With the final part about Bink's Sake and being too early: maybe it's also because there is literal sake that is meant to be shared with the world, but it's not done ageing yet, which is a metaphor for the world not being ready because of the mistreatment of others. This would mean Luffy gets to the island, finds the perfectly aged sake, and travels back across the whole world giving this sake to everyone he's met, an inversion of his entire journey.

I was just writing my theory based on the inversion of the first scene of the manga Luffy on shank ship scaring his face with the knife I concluded that One Piece would end with Luffy deciding to return to dawn island after finding the one piece I couldn't figure out why he would do that because Luffy would obviously prefer keep sailing and searching for adventure so it didn't make sense he would pack his stuff and return home Now thanks to you I see that my theory and inversion of the first scene in the manga can make sense

My theory is If one piece started with Luffy proving to shanks that he has the courage to be a pirate but shank refusing to accept him on board because he doesn't have the power to take on that journey The ending of one piece should be about how Luffy already has the power to take on one more crazy journey but prefers to not go for it because he has already more freedom in staying where he is rather than searching for freedom in a fantastic adventure

All long series writers recycle their ideas. sometimes they just do it subconsciously because the plot was in their head and they forgot they've done it before. Believe me ,it's harder to write complete new stuff than making parallels.

In a way... this is exactly how it happened. It's insane how accurate this theory is. It could just be coincidence born from it all having the same writer, plus fairly common writing tricks for a long-form story (revisit old ideas but with new outcomes to show the power advance) but it still works quite well.
Because of this theory, I am now 100% convinced that the One Piece is a humble little clay cup that's meant to be raised to celebrate the end of all conflict.

Mark, this was an outstanding video! One of my favorite One Piece ones so far! But I think you may be missing the biggest possible inversion to come in the future. That has to do with Laugh Tale/the One Piece/100 year Void History. I have a feeling that when the Straw Hats get to Laugh Tale and discover the True History and One Piece, the crew, and/or perhaps we the audience, may not be laughing at all. This could be because of some information that is hidden or unknown that the Straw Hats discover and it ends up severely changing the context of Joy Boy's story. Not to a story of laughter but to one of seriousness. I think this may be foreshadowed by Rayleigh when he said, "We found the True History... but perhaps you'll come to a different conclusion than we did." I think this could fit into the "Checkered Fate" theory very nicely. Oda may have a big surprise in store for us. Anyway, thats something on my mind I wanted to add on to the theory. This is one of the takes I've seen that have made the most sense. It also gives the Straw Hats their own sense of identity since they're not just doing the same thing Roger Pirates did when they reached Laugh Tale AND it makes the One Piece something you don't just have to find but also earn, to figure out
I completely agree with your statement! From all the events that happened and what we think will still happen, there is something in my mind for a while. On Lough Tale they will figure out what happened 800 years ago. We know that it has something to do with the celestial Dragons and knowing them, the outcome will be groundbreaking and probably negative. I think they will march in Mary Joa after they find the One Piece because of the things they will figure out. And this would be a twist too. One Piece would be not the Endgoal of their current journey, as everyone believes since chapter 1, but they will stand up to a group of people who got introduced way later in the story but are still connected to the first tragic loss in Luffy's life - Sabo. And thus is not only a turnaround on Luffys personal story, but it also has a connection to his hometown

When taking about Buggy's cannon, having a huge role in his arc, it came to my mind that the Poneglyphs always described something as "Ancient Weapons". So, the central piece of this hypothetical arc might be around the answer to the Poneglyphs. It could also explain why Shanks has the power to be one the Four Emperors, without having a devil fruit: by having (or less likely being) one of these weapons.
This is also what I love about One Piece: The whole story feels like as if it has been made from - warning, pun ahead - one piece. Nothing really feels like as if it has been added afterwards to fit something or so. It completely progresses smoothly. And this theory, which I consider by far the best and most elaborated out there, proves it to me again. And finally it proves again what a genius Oda is. It's even more amazing when you realize that both the Seven Warlords and Supernovas were in fact made up shortly before their introduction. In fact in the Supernova's case they were all made up the same week the chapter was inked
Oda is just extremely skilled at leaving things loose enough that he can tie something in later and at tying things in to previous crumbs. He's very much someone who takes the idea "know how your story starts and ends, then allow your story to take itself there" and maximizes it.

with egghead island going on right now, egghead island is an inversion of syrup village in this way: both islands are about protecting things that are cherished the most. for Syrup Village, its about protecting Kaya and the village itself. for Egghead Island, its about protecting Dr. Vegapunk and his research. there is also Kizaru, who has the powers of light, who is the inversion of Kuro, who embodies darkness. Their names also both start with K. Also, there is a secondary antagonist in the arc who is focused on, and thats Jango and the Gorosei member St. Saturn. its theorized that St. Saturn will take control of the Seraphim, which is similar to Jango using hypnosis to control people's minds. Also, the Cat brothers that Zoro fights, as well as Kuro's claws and cat abilities, are similar to Rob Lucci's Leopard powers and Kaku being Lucci's right hand man. also, Vegapunk's design is similar to the design of the Usopp pirates. Another similarity is that Usopp is in charge of a group, similar to Vegapunk being the main body of the clones of him. also, it was revealed that the technology Vegapunk is using is from the past, and that is similar to Kuro, who we see his past. Kuro wants to hide his past, while Vegapunk wants to bring the past into the modern day. Kuro wants to hide knowledge, similar to the world government, while Vegapunk wants to share knowledge and expose the truth, similar to Usoppp in Syrup Village. and Kaya is similar to both Stussy and Bonney, because they are both helping the Straw Hats. Kaya lives a lavish lifestyle, possibly from royalty, and that is similar to Bonney. Kaya is similar to Stussy because it was made to appear that she was on the world government's side. similarly, Kaya sided with Kuro at first and did not believe Usopp, but once she found out the truth, she wanted to help him and the Straw Hats. And Bonney in this arc is similar to Usopp, because both of their fathers were touched upon in the arc. Usopp's father leaves his family, while Bonney's father gets taken away from her. also, Usopp and the Straw Hats at the end of Syrup Village want Kaya and the Usopp Pirates to lie and pretend that nothing happened at all. that is similar to the world government wanting to hide the truth and prevent the truth about Vegapunk and his research from continuing any further. those are just the parallels i could think of off the top of my head. the islands after egghead, i believe, will be in this order: elbaf (inverse of orange town): refer to all the points Mark made in the video about Shanks and Buggy. fullalead island (inverse of shells town): for fullalead island, i believe Blackbeard, a scummy pirate, takes control of a town, kidnaps a powerful marine, and is about to execute them, and that marine will be Garp. and unlike Zoro, Garp will not survive. laugh tale (inverse of gaiman's island): refer to the points Mark made in the video about Laugh Tale and Gaiman's island Pluton (inverse of the ship that Luffy faces Alvida on): Franky will purposefully build Pluton, and the Straw Hats will sail around on that (maybe the Sunny will be stored somewhere in Pluton?). Pluton will become their main ship and they will use it to get to Marie Geoise. along the way, there will be fights on board the ship from pirates and marines and the WG trying to go after the straw hats and Marie Geoise (inverse of Fusha village): the end of the journey, where Luffy will face the final big bad. the lord of the coast is a similar title to the king of the world (Imu), and instead of being fought on water, Imu is fought on land. also, it is theorized Imu will have power to control water. another inversion is, Imu (most likely) is human while the lord of the coast is a creature.

0% chance that's true. The One Piece will almost certainly be the destruction of the Red Line and the creation of one sea, the All Blue. Which would cause the world to be undivided and thus One Piece.

Looking back at this theory now, I think it’s clear that momonosuke’s reintroduction in 1052 is meant to parallel Whitebeard’s death. They’re both in a similar pose, and the narrator comments on both of them. 1052 takes place at night, wb’s death is in the day and they both have people standing nearby (the scabbards behind and Blackbeard’s crew in front of).
Going further... . . (spoilers here) Marine Ford has an emperor show up out of the blue and successfully end everything. Wano has an Admiral show up out of the blue causing trouble but is ineffective. Ironically (or fittingly) because of the same emperor. Marine Ford ends with the man of Darkness becoming an emperor. Wano ends with the Sun God becoming an emperor. More parallels with Blackbeard and Luffy being inversed here, too. An emperor tells Blackbeard he will never be Joy Boy. An emperor tells Luffy he IS Joy Boy. Blackbeard and Luffy both also take the position of Emperor IMMEDIATELY after getting new powers and showing them off to the world, BB by nearly destroying an island, Luffy by saving one.

Just finished the video. I feel so lucky to be on this journey for 15 years now and yet I'm still in awe each time when someone talks about one piece this way. This isn't just a story. Its an adventure. I just hope more people get on this journey before it is revealed what one piece is.

We have Whitebeard claiming that he's seen it, but in Oden's flashback we don't see him. Maybe Newgate told that because he knows the true importance of the entire world sharing the sake, and by knowing the One Piece isn't real people would lose hope or whatever

I definitely feel recent arcs have been inversions of previous ones, so agree with a lot of aspects of this theory. But I also feel a few of the inversions you claimed were strenuous at best, and we haven't actually gotten inversions for those things yet. That said, I feel there are a few key threads you missed when talking about it. Namely, Where does the Revolutionary army fit in here? I don't feel they are an inversion for the army in Alabasta. But I'm also trying to figure out what they will be an inversion of. Also, while I feel Elbaf will be Usopps arc, as you said, I think it's ultimate Payoff won't be until near the end of the series, where one of his most significant lies comes true. Imagine this: Usopp standing against one of the major antagonists/groups of major antagonists. The warrior of the sea stands and proclaims he has 8000 men behind him. And on the horizon, at sea, you see the masts of the Straw hat grand fleet, the Samurai of Wano, and the Giants of Elbaf. Usopp leading 8000 strong.
And yea many fans also forgets about that moment which shayalry(idk how to spell her,she is the future teller from fishmen island) saw in her crystal ball that luffy will come back to fishmen island and will destroy it
And as we can assume from the Big Mom flashback, that the current ruler of Elbaf is king/prince Loki. Be it the more mainstream one or Utgard-Loki, they were tricksters, decievers. Could play into it as well

I saw that Berserk copy in the manscaped ad and thought "awesome! He's reading berserk!" Then I saw the ending of the video and heard Guts theme...I got chills and almost cried. If...if Mark does do a review on Berserk, I'd LOVE to see how his take is on the story and artwork and the characters involved. No other work has hit me and stayed with me as much as Berserk, and Kentaro Miura's death still hurts. Not because I knew him or anything, but because his work and even interviews he was in helped me find my own voice as a writer. Anyway, I know this was a One Piece video but...I couldn't help but notice Berserk and wanted to talk about it.
My hope that this speculation is true. There wouldn’t be a more fitting time to review this series, especially considering the impact Kentaro in Manga, but west culture as well. This was Series that made me fall in Love With Manga. It is was my first Manga and I still consider it to be one the greatest story ever told. I don’t think the Hurt of losing Miura will ever truly go away, but Like Guts we will continue our Journeys and remember that he past doing what he loved most.

I was rewatching Mark's review of Arlong Park and it's actually pretty cool the parallels between Nami and Kanjuro. They both worked for the bad guys, but the difference is that Nami kept them in the dark about some stuff to protect the straw hats while Kanjuro outright revealed all the plans they had multiple times. Not on only that, but their skills are both related to illustrating, the difference is that Nami never really hid her skills in navigation and mapping but Kanjuro kept his drawing skills hidden for the longest time. I'm also sure there are more parallels but these two stand out for me the most

Hear me out: What if the D. in all of those middle names stood for “Dawn”. In every flashback that has to do with Roger and the Will of D, they mention the Dawn of the New Era. The D standing for Dawn, and the Will’s fight against the Gods for a better world.
You can interpret the D in many ways an a lot of them make sense. It can be the D for dawn, but it can also be a crescent moon you see during the night before the dawn. Which connects to the lunar symbols used on Wano who are connected to Joyboy and the Minks. It also looks like a big wide smile you always see Luffy wear on his face =D Which makes sense because he's Joyboy. Personally I think it's going to turn out to be something completely different, because Oda, but all those symbolic interpretations still kinda hold true. It just fits the story that the 'clan of D' carries on this will of smiling in the face of death, because the night is always darkest right before the dawn. And you can always see the sun is still there during the night by it's light being reflected by the moon. I mean there's layers to this shit xD
I'm surprised you didn't mention how Ussop is partially named after Aesop, of Aesop's fables. Also? Enel's barge took him to the moon, while Noah's Arc is prophesied to carry the fish folk into the sunlight.
You could also say that elbaf might have some David vs Goliath connotations for Usopp, he even has the slingshot to fight giants👀 I think Usopp might defeat a powerful giant and then later have giants from elbaf join usopp finally, thus making his 8000 men prediction coming true!
@@Chackz0 Maybe this "powerful giant" could be Loki? We know he's the prince of Elbaf, which means he's part of the royalty and could be the current leader. If this is the case, it's possible that Loki is another corrupt leader, and the giants of Elbaf will band under Usopp and the Strawhats to take him down. After all, at this point, the giants will probably be aware of Big Mom's defeat in Wano, and revere the Strawhats as powerful allies or saviors.

SPOILER WARNING: Chapter 1043 Mark posits that joyboy is an inversion to chore boy and explains that for luffy to rid himself of chore boy he had to beat Don crieg, similarly to gain joyboy he would have to beat kaido, however we now know that it was even more of an inversion than mark predicted, to gain joyboy luffy needed to lose to kaido, damn man this theory is bonkers

Tbh it would make sense if Roger was too early, since alcohol needs to ferment for a long time and maybe it just wasnt ripe yet or maybe its just not time for celebration either or both.
Orange town seems like it would mirror the fight with blackbeard. One strong piece of evidence is that its a fight of two pirate captains and their crews for the map that leads to the one piece. Maybe buggy destroying luffy’s hat might mean blackbeard will destroy shanks. Plus the themes would be what a treasure really is. Maybe the one piece is the same value as some dog food?
I like this theory alot, what if the inversion to Shanks giving Luffy his hat is Luffy placing his hat on Shanks' grave? What if the grave has picture of Shanks smiling, and as Luffy places it down he's crying.
Also if Luffy ends up beating kaido and big mom totalling up to two emperors, it would be an inversion to say Blackbeard beat whitebeard and shanks, once again totaling to two emperors.
This is great and all, but I'm not really convinced. I agree that many parallels and oppositions between arcs before and after the timeskip appear, and we cannot just ignore them. But to me, it's juste an artistic choice by Oda, a way to help himself with the writing and structuring while winking at the readers. It's an easy way to help us remember how much did the characters evolved between the arcs, to show how they react now. I certainly do not believe the fact that the whole story was in his head like that, with this idea of parallels before and after the timeskip, for a very simple reason : half of those arcs didn't originally existed. When Oda created Miss Wednesday, she wasn't even Vivi yet. The shishibukai weren't here from the start, the strawhats were only supposed to face the Emperors. Oda had the great lines of his story in his mind, and I'm absolutely sure that he knew from chapter 1 what was the One Piece. But he drew through inspiration, while disseminating clues about the world and evolution in his characters. I feel like you overthought those parallels, searching desesperatly for more, hoping for a precise and detailed structure. But some of those clues and exemples were really forced. A few exemples : - the chore boy/joyboy parallele would only make sense if it was also close in japanese, you cannot just brandish that and the fact that Don Krieg and Kaido are buff guys with big crews to draw a parallel between Baratie and Onigashima. Seriously, those arcs are nothing alike. - with so many arcs that parallel Skypea, maybe is it just that Skypea condensed many codes of mystery and adventure, related to the themes and secrets of the manga (adventure toward a magical, unknown or unexpected place, secrets of history, vilains that want to oppress and seize people's liberty) - talking about binks sake because of the bell. No. You definitely do not need the bell to keep an eye on this song. There are many analysis of the japanese lyrics that indeed link it to Laught Tale (like the verse yous talked about, but not only), to understand it's a key to the end of this story. Instead of testing this theory, judge its credibility and its limits, you tried to force any new information into it to try to prove that it was in it all along. Of course symbolical or literal cycles will appear in such a story. It's the nature of the One Piece World, with Grand Line and Red Line, and it's the nature of adventure. It's no surprise to see references and repetition. But do not confuse Oda with a mastermind with every chapter and details in his head from begining to end. His genius come from his capacity to create a consistant world with consistant characters, that evolve on a natural way. He lays many hints towards his secrets, but I think you reached the point of over-analysis. If you want to gess the end, keep an eye on the general themes of the story, on the way the characters are going, on the main mystery that are left. I personally believe that the One Piece is a way to destroy Red Line and unite all the seas with the help of ancients weapons, including Poseidon who wasn't born during Roger's Era. Think about the prophecy of Luffy destroying Fishman Island while the Fishmen want to live on the surface. Think about Laboon that want to see Brook. Think about All Blue. Think about the dream of absolute liberty of Luffy. I think that these are the clue we should all be looking for. Oda has too much to think already to be planning his story like that. yeah this is a ballsy video and i'm glad he made it because it raised a lot of good questions and opened my eyes about a lot of things i hadn't noticed, but it probably would have been better if he actually went through the story to see if events actually only happened twice or if they happen all the time. for example chopper having to come up with an antidote for something, that doesn't make a parallel between arcs, that's just his job

When One Piece ends, I will be so sad. That said, I do hope it ends on the highest note possible. I have been enjoying this series since last year and I am so happy I decided to get into it when I did.

All I have to say is: thank you Mark. I have always wanted to start One Piece, but I never found the will to pick up on everything. But when you started reviewing the Manga last year: I decided to go on that same journey with you. And boy, I don't regret it! This has been such a fun ride and One Piece has become my favourite piece of media of all time.
Hearing you theorize what the one piece is and just thinking of the ending likely coming before the end of the decade just makes me choke up. I came to watch this after just reading past the anime and catching up to the latest manga chapter this week. SO cool to see how much you have been correct about so far. On the topic of Baratie's inversion, and getting to Elbaf, we might see Zoro face off against Mihawk at Elbaf, especially if Shanks could be there. In the Baratie arc, we had Zoro confidently face Mihawk and lose completely, so an inversion of that could likely be one where Zoro humbly challenges Mihawk and is able to win in a challenging, yet commanding victory
Also an inversion I think makes sense: when Luffy and Shanks reunite (as opposed to saying goodbye in Fusha Village) they will fight and/or Luffy will somehow save Shanks and/or Shanks will put Luffy in danger for whatever necessary and meaningful reason (as opposed to him saving Luffy in Fusha Village). Maybe Shanks somehow knows Luffy is the best chance against BB, and Shanks vs Luffy is going to be the last battle to unlock some final power Luffy will need to defeat BB.
Instead of Luffy jumping out of the crate meeting only meeting Coby, and setting out in his adventure, he'll enter a box putting his adventure to rest but this time surrounded by everyone that grew to love him
For those not caught up with the Manga at this point, possible spoiler alerts ahead. The inversion to Usopp's lies is all the truths that are currently being revealed. Orange Island's inversion is Egghead Island. Here are some things that have already proved it. Nami was asked by Luffy to be their navigator while Vegapunk offers to sail with the Straw Hats of his own volition. Nami is a common thief while we learn that Vegapunk wants to give to the world. Buggy's ability allows him to separate into many parts while Vegapunk has literally split himself into multiple parts. Buggy's personality alone bears a lot of inverses to Vegapunk's (selfishness vs selflessness, laziness vs dexterity, gloating vs modesty etc). ***I'll keep updating this comment***

Here’s my theory: The Ancient Kingdom had 3 ancient weapons: - Poseidon, Pluton and Uranus, all 3 named after Ancient Greek/Roman Gods who were living beings -- Poseidon, God of the Sea, Shirahoshi COMMANDS SEA KINGS - - Pluto (Pluton in French and German), God of the Underworld, aka the land, Momonosuke COMMANDS LAND KINGS (an ancient giant elephant certainly fits the bill, and we know for a fact Zunesha wasn’t the only one as we learned in Zou he was banished for whatever reason and commanded to walk for eternity) - - Uranus, God of the Sky, unrevealed person (or not, Aisa has similar observation Haki to Momo and Shirahoshi and she has wings to signify the Sky aspect) will COMMAND SKY KINGS (possibly real dragons who possibly reside in other Sky Islands) The Ancient Kingdom lost against the World Government probably due to ITS ancient weapon COUNTERS like that “pluton battleship” - first parallel to note, the ancient kingdom has seemingly the POWER TO CONTROL creatures where’s the WG has actual weapons - the AK was affiliated with Wano and they have the Poneglyph technology whereas the WG has burnable paper (the biggest reason why that battleship is not the actual ancient weapon but a COUNTER, and maybe the name got confused over the years) The reason why Roger was “too early” is because Shirahoshi wasn’t born at that time yet, 20 years ago and she is 16 Momo was alive, implying Uranus was already alive already Luffy as a “joy boy candidate” will be the first one in 800 years to unite all three weapons who will finally be born in the same era and we know that will happen because of the narrative.

My theory is One Piece is a space ship and Luffy and Roger's shared dream is to explore space and be space pirates. I have no proof. The only reason I believe this is because I sincerely believe that Oda was a fan of Captain Harlock (Luffy even has a similar scar under his eye), but Oda suspiciously hasn't really mentioned Harlock, despite being a total pirate fanboy. I'm sure he read and loved Captain Harlock. It was thematically tied to freedom as well, just like One Piece, and I wholeheartedly believe that he's kept his love for Harlock under wraps because it ties into the ending for his manga.

Light novel authors, visual novel authors, mangaka, etc will be able to create spin offs of the One Piece world. I think that the Ace novel and the Sogeki no Sanji chapters were testing the waters for this.

Imu was a big wall but now he will become a larger threat that crew ever faced. And one more thing is that duval was in trouble due to sanji's poster, and imu will be in trouble due to something that has happened to vivi i guess(it's just speculation, an interesting speculation) Yeah, he comparing duval scene to imu was funny af, but if you think about it. Ima be real, almost all these parallels just seem like random connections than anything substantive. Saying that Luffy had some kinda connection to a ball in both his fights against Enel and Hody is pretty weak. This is one of the many reasons I love One Piece so much. No other series that I've read/watched has ever had a fandom that is this committed to diving into as much lore and details of the story to try and theorize what will come next. And it makes sense too. One Piece is a series that gives unparalleled levels of pay off for paying attention to all the details Oda leaves along the way. It's fascinating! It makes you feel like your going on an adventure just doing a deep dive through the series.
Ok let's run with this Duval thing. When Duval was revealed, he turned out to be relatively weak, and was mistaken for one of the Straw Hats. Therefore, Im will turn out to be incredibly strong despite being a political figure rather than a fighter per se, and will turn out to actually be one of the Straw Hats! Maybe Zoro got lost and accidentally became the ruler of the world.

While the best of narrative theories do come to fruition, the don’t all necessarily have to be a good work of theory crafting. Even if this doesn’t specifically all happen, that doesn’t take away from, or discredit, everything that does make this a plausible theory as of now. That’s just my two cents though

For example, he said One Piece is underground and Mark just mirrored Laugh Tale with Goemon's island.
Goemon's island had a fake treasure on an elevated terrain, it is only logical that the inverted version is THE treasure underground.

With the final part about Bink's Sake and being too early: maybe it's also because there is literal sake that is meant to be shared with the world, but it's not done ageing yet, which is a metaphor for the world not being ready because of the mistreatment of others. This would mean Luffy gets to the island, finds the perfectly aged sake, and travels back across the whole world giving this sake to everyone he's met, an inversion of his entire journey.

The ending of one piece should be about how Luffy already has the power to take on one more crazy journey but prefers to not go for it because he has already more freedom in staying where he is rather than searching for freedom in a fantastic adventure

All long series writers recycle their ideas. sometimes they just do it subconsciously because the plot was in their head and they forgot they've done it before. In a way... this is exactly how it happened. It's insane how accurate this theory is. It could just be coincidence born from it all having the same writer, plus fairly common writing tricks for a long-form story (revisit old ideas but with new outcomes to show the power advance) but it still works quite well.
Because of this theory, I am now 100% convinced that the One Piece is a humble little clay cup that's meant to be raised to celebrate the end of all conflict.
Honestly, that would be an ending that I would love.

Mark, this was an outstanding video! One of my favorite One Piece ones so far! But I think you may be missing the biggest possible inversion to come in the future. That has to do with Laugh Tale/the One Piece/100 year Void History. I have a feeling that when the Straw Hats get to Laugh Tale and discover the True History and One Piece, the crew, and/or perhaps we the audience, may not be laughing at all. This could be because of some information that is hidden or unknown that the Straw Hats discover and it ends up severely changing the context of Joy Boy's story. Not to a story of laughter but to one of seriousness. I think this may be foreshadowed by Rayleigh when he said, "We found the True History... but perhaps you'll come to a different conclusion than we did." I think this could fit into the "Checkered Fate" theory very nicely. Oda may have a big surprise in store for us. Anyway, thats something on my mind I wanted to add on to the theory. This is one of the takes I've seen that have made the most sense. It also gives the Straw Hats their own sense of identity since they're not just doing the same thing Roger Pirates did when they reached Laugh Tale AND it makes the One Piece something you don't just have to find but also earn, to figure out
I completely agree with your statement! From all the events that happened and what we think will still happen, there is something in my mind for a while. On Lough Tale they will figure out what happened 800 years ago. We know that it has something to do with the celestial Dragons and knowing them, the outcome will be groundbreaking and probably negative. I think they will march in Mary Joa after they find the One Piece because of the things they will figure out. And this would be a twist too. One Piece would be not the Endgoal of their current journey, as everyone believes since chapter 1, but they will stand up to a group of people who got introduced way later in the story but are still connected to the first tragic loss in Luffy's life - Sabo. And thus is not only a turnaround on Luffys personal story, but it also has a connection to his hometown

When taking about Buggy's cannon, having a huge role in his arc, it came to my mind that the Poneglyphs always described something as "Ancient Weapons". So, the central piece of this hypothetical arc might be around the answer to the Poneglyphs. It could also explain why Shanks has the power to be one the Four Emperors, without having a devil fruit: by having (or less likely being) one of these weapons.
It would also partially explain how he has sway with the gorosei cuz maybe he holds it over them but I personally think there’s more to that

This is also what I love about One Piece: The whole story feels like as if it has been made from - warning, pun ahead - one piece. Nothing really feels like as if it has been added afterwards to fit something or so. It completely progresses smoothly. And this theory, which I consider by far the best and most elaborated out there, proves it to me again. And finally it proves again what a genius Oda is. It's even more amazing when you realize that both the Seven Warlords and Supernovas were in fact made up shortly before their introduction. In fact in the Supernova's case they were all made up the same week the chapter was inked
Oda is just extremely skilled at leaving things loose enough that he can tie something in later and at tying things in to previous crumbs. He's very much someone who takes the idea "know how your story starts and ends, then allow your story to take itself there" and maximizes it.

with egghead island going on right now, egghead island is an inversion of syrup village in this way: both islands are about protecting things that are cherished the most. for Syrup Village, its about protecting Kaya and the village itself. for Egghead Island, its about protecting Dr. Vegapunk and his research. there is also Kizaru, who has the powers of light, who is the inversion of Kuro, who embodies darkness. Their names also both start with K. Also, there is a secondary antagonist in the arc who is focused on, and thats Jango and the Gorosei member St. Saturn. its theorized that St. Saturn will take control of the Seraphim, which is similar to Jango using hypnosis to control people's minds. Also, the Cat brothers that Zoro fights, as well as Kuro's claws and cat abilities, are similar to Rob Lucci's Leopard powers and Kaku being Lucci's right hand man. also, Vegapunk's design is similar to the design of the Usopp pirates. Another similarity is that Usopp is in charge of a group, similar to Vegapunk being the main body of the clones of him. also, it was revealed that the technology Vegapunk is using is from the past, and that is similar to Kuro, who we see his past. Kuro wants to hide his past, while Vegapunk wants to bring the past into the modern day. Kuro wants to hide knowledge, similar to the world government, while Vegapunk wants to share knowledge and expose the truth, similar to Usoppp in Syrup Village. and Kaya is similar to both Stussy and Bonney, because they are both helping the Straw Hats. Kaya lives a lavish lifestyle, possibly from royalty, and that is similar to Bonney. Kaya is similar to Stussy because it was made to appear that she was on the world government's side. similarly, Kaya sided with Kuro at first and did not believe Usopp, but once she found out the truth, she wanted to help him and the Straw Hats. And Bonney in this arc is similar to Usopp, because both of their fathers were touched upon in the arc. Usopp's father leaves his family, while Bonney's father gets taken away from her. also, Usopp and the Straw Hats at the end of Syrup Village want Kaya and the Usopp Pirates to lie and pretend that nothing happened at all. that is similar to the world government wanting to hide the truth and prevent the truth about Vegapunk and his research from continuing any further. those are just the parallels i could think of off the top of my head.
the islands after egghead, i believe, will be in this order:
elbaf (inverse of orange town): refer to all the points Mark made in the video about Shanks and Buggy.
fullalead island (inverse of shells town): for fullalead island, i believe Blackbeard, a scummy pirate, takes control of a town, kidnaps a powerful marine, and is about to execute them, and that marine will be Garp. and unlike Zoro, Garp will not survive.
laugh tale (inverse of gaiman's island): refer to the points Mark made in the video about Laugh Tale and Gaiman's island
Pluton (inverse of the ship that Luffy faces Alvida on): Franky will purposefully build Pluton, and the Straw Hats will sail around on that (maybe the Sunny will be stored somewhere in Pluton?). Pluton will become their main ship and they will use it to get to Marie Geoise. along the way, there will be fights on board the ship from pirates and marines and the WG trying to go after the straw hats
and Marie Geoise (inverse of Fusha village): the end of the journey, where Luffy will face the final big bad. the lord of the coast is a similar title to the king of the world (Imu), and instead of being fought on water, Imu is fought on land. also, it is theorized Imu will have power to control water. another inversion is, Imu (most likely) is human while the lord of the coast is a creature.

Looking back at this theory now, I think it’s clear that momonosuke’s reintroduction in 1052 is meant to parallel Whitebeard’s death. They’re both in a similar pose, and the narrator comments on both of them. 1052 takes place at night, wb’s death is in the day and they both have people standing nearby (the scabbards behind and Blackbeard’s crew in front of).

I definitely feel recent arcs have been inversions of previous ones, so agree with a lot of aspects of this theory. But I also feel a few of the inversions you claimed were strenuous at best, and we haven't actually gotten inversions for those things yet. That said, I feel there are a few key threads you missed when talking about it. Namely, Where does the Revolutionary army fit in here? I don't feel they are an inversion for the army in Alabasta. But I'm also trying to figure out what they will be an inversion of.
Also, while I feel Elbaf will be Usopps arc, as you said, I think it's ultimate Payoff won't be until near the end of the series, where one of his most significant lies comes true.
Imagine this: Usopp standing against one of the major antagonists/groups of major antagonists. The warrior of the sea stands and proclaims he has 8000 men behind him. And on the horizon, at sea, you see the masts of the Straw hat grand fleet, the Samurai of Wano, and the Giants of Elbaf. Usopp leading 8000 strong.
And that moment will be so incredible for the Ussop Lies theories where all of his lies are actually true.
And yea many fans also forgets about that moment which shayalry(idk how to spell her,she is the future teller from fishmen island) saw in her crystal ball that luffy will come back to fishmen island and will destroy it

I saw that Berserk copy in the manscaped ad and thought "awesome! He's reading berserk!" Then I saw the ending of the video and heard Guts theme...I got chills and almost cried. If...if Mark does do a review on Berserk, I'd LOVE to see how his take is on the story and artwork and the characters involved. No other work has hit me and stayed with me as much as Berserk, and Kentaro Miura's death still hurts. Not because I knew him or anything, but because his work and even interviews he was in helped me find my own voice as a writer.

This was Series that made me fall in Love With Manga. It is was my first Manga and I still consider it to be one the greatest story ever told. I don’t think the Hurt of losing Miura will ever truly go away, but Like Guts we will continue our Journeys and remember that he past doing what he loved most.

I was rewatching Mark's review of Arlong Park and it's actually pretty cool the parallels between Nami and Kanjuro. They both worked for the bad guys, but the difference is that Nami kept them in the dark about some stuff to protect the straw hats while Kanjuro outright revealed all the plans they had multiple times. Not on only that, but their skills are both related to illustrating, the difference is that Nami never really hid her skills in navigation and mapping but Kanjuro kept his drawing skills hidden for the longest time.

Hear me out: What if the D. in all of those middle names stood for “Dawn”. In every flashback that has to do with Roger and the Will of D, they mention the Dawn of the New Era. The D standing for Dawn, and the Will’s fight against the Gods for a better world.
You can interpret the D in many ways an a lot of them make sense. It can be the D for dawn, but it can also be a crescent moon you see during the night before the dawn. Which connects to the lunar symbols used on Wano who are connected to Joyboy and the Minks. It also looks like a big wide smile you always see Luffy wear on his face =D Which makes sense because he's Joyboy. Personally I think it's going to turn out to be something completely different, because Oda, but all those symbolic interpretations still kinda hold true. It just fits the story that the 'clan of D' carries on this will of smiling in the face of death, because the night is always darkest right before the dawn. And you can always see the sun is still there during the night by it's light being reflected by the moon. I mean there's layers to this shit xD

Orange town seems like it would mirror the fight with blackbeard. One strong piece of evidence is that its a fight of two pirate captains and their crews for the map that leads to the one piece. Maybe buggy destroying luffy’s hat might mean blackbeard will destroy shanks.
Plus the themes would be what a treasure really is. Maybe the one piece is the same value as some dog food?

This is great and all, but I'm not really convinced.
I agree that many parallels and oppositions between arcs before and after the timeskip appear, and we cannot just ignore them. But to me, it's juste an artistic choice by Oda, a way to help himself with the writing and structuring while winking at the readers. It's an easy way to help us remember how much did the characters evolved between the arcs, to show how they react now. I certainly do not believe the fact that the whole story was in his head like that, with this idea of parallels before and after the timeskip, for a very simple reason : half of those arcs didn't originally existed. When Oda created Miss Wednesday, she wasn't even Vivi yet. The shishibukai weren't here from the start, the strawhats were only supposed to face the Emperors. Oda had the great lines of his story in his mind, and I'm absolutely sure that he knew from chapter 1 what was the One Piece. But he drew through inspiration, while disseminating clues about the world and evolution in his characters.
I feel like you overthought those parallels, searching desesperatly for more, hoping for a precise and detailed structure. But some of those clues and exemples were really forced. A few exemples :
- the chore boy/joyboy parallele would only make sense if it was also close in japanese, you cannot just brandish that and the fact that Don Krieg and Kaido are buff guys with big crews to draw a parallel between Baratie and Onigashima. Seriously, those arcs are nothing alike.
- with so many arcs that parallel Skypea, maybe is it just that Skypea condensed many codes of mystery and adventure, related to the themes and secrets of the manga (adventure toward a magical, unknown or unexpected place, secrets of history, vilains that want to oppress and seize people's liberty)
- talking about binks sake because of the bell. No. You definitely do not need the bell to keep an eye on this song. There are many analysis of the japanese lyrics that indeed link it to Laught Tale (like the verse yous talked about, but not only), to understand it's a key to the end of this story.
Instead of testing this theory, judge its credibility and its limits, you tried to force any new information into it to try to prove that it was in it all along. Of course symbolical or literal cycles will appear in such a story. It's the nature of the One Piece World, with Grand Line and Red Line, and it's the nature of adventure. It's no surprise to see references and repetition. But do not confuse Oda with a mastermind with every chapter and details in his head from begining to end. His genius come from his capacity to create a consistant world with consistant characters, that evolve on a natural way. He lays many hints towards his secrets, but I think you reached the point of over-analysis.
If you want to gess the end, keep an eye on the general themes of the story, on the way the characters are going, on the main mystery that are left. I personally believe that the One Piece is a way to destroy Red Line and unite all the seas with the help of ancients weapons, including Poseidon who wasn't born during Roger's Era. Think about the prophecy of Luffy destroying Fishman Island while the Fishmen want to live on the surface. Think about Laboon that want to see Brook. Think about All Blue. Think about the dream of absolute liberty of Luffy. I think that these are the clue we should all be looking for. Oda has too much to think already to be planning his story like that.

yeah this is a ballsy video and i'm glad he made it because it raised a lot of good questions and opened my eyes about a lot of things i hadn't noticed, but it probably would have been better if he actually went through the story to see if events actually only happened twice or if they happen all the time. for example chopper having to come up with an antidote for something, that doesn't make a parallel between arcs, that's just his job

Also an inversion I think makes sense: when Luffy and Shanks reunite (as opposed to saying goodbye in Fusha Village) they will fight and/or Luffy will somehow save Shanks and/or Shanks will put Luffy in danger for whatever necessary and meaningful reason (as opposed to him saving Luffy in Fusha Village). Maybe Shanks somehow knows Luffy is the best chance against BB, and Shanks vs Luffy is going to be the last battle to unlock some final power Luffy will need to defeat BB.

Orange Island's inversion is Egghead Island. Here are some things that have already proved it. Nami was asked by Luffy to be their navigator while Vegapunk offers to sail with the Straw Hats of his own volition. Nami is a common thief while we learn that Vegapunk wants to give to the world. Buggy's ability allows him to separate into many parts while Vegapunk has literally split himself into multiple parts. The Ancient Kingdom had 3 ancient weapons:
- Poseidon, Pluton and Uranus, all 3 named after Ancient Greek/Roman Gods who were living beings

- - Pluto (Pluton in French and German), God of the Underworld, aka the land, Momonosuke COMMANDS LAND KINGS (an ancient giant elephant certainly fits the bill, and we know for a fact Zunesha wasn’t the only one as we learned in Zou he was banished for whatever reason and commanded to walk for eternity)
- - Uranus, God of the Sky, unrevealed person (or not, Aisa has similar observation Haki to Momo and Shirahoshi and she has wings to signify the Sky aspect) will COMMAND SKY KINGS (possibly real dragons who possibly reside in other Sky Islands)
The Ancient Kingdom lost against the World Government probably due to ITS ancient weapon COUNTERS like that “pluton battleship”
- first parallel to note, the ancient kingdom has seemingly the POWER TO CONTROL creatures where’s the WG has actual weapons
- the AK was affiliated with Wano and they have the Poneglyph technology whereas the WG has burnable paper (the biggest reason why that battleship is not the actual ancient weapon but a COUNTER, and maybe the name got confused over the years)

The parallels between Luffy/Ace/Sabo and Roger/Whitebeard/Oden in Episode 1015 fit so well with this theory.
My theory is One Piece is a space ship and Luffy and Roger's shared dream is to explore space and be space pirates. I have no proof. The only reason I believe this is because I sincerely believe that Oda was a fan of Captain Harlock (Luffy even has a similar scar under his eye), but Oda suspiciously hasn't really mentioned Harlock, despite being a total pirate fanboy. I'm sure he read and loved Captain Harlock. It was thematically tied to freedom as well, just like One Piece, and I wholeheartedly believe that he's kept his love for Harlock under wraps because it ties into the ending for his manga.

@@AlphaRKA I actually believe that Oda will retire the main story for OP. He deserves to get rest. But I think that after One Piece ends, he will open up the world to other creators. Light novel authors, visual novel authors, mangaka, etc will be able to create spin offs of the One Piece world. I think that the Ace novel and the Sogeki no Sanji chapters were testing the waters for this.

This is one of the many reasons I love One Piece so much. No other series that I've read/watched has ever had a fandom that is this committed to diving into as much lore and details of the story to try and theorize what will come next. And it makes sense too. One Piece is a series that gives unparalleled levels of pay off for paying attention to all the details Oda leaves along the way. It's fascinating! It makes you feel like your going on an adventure just doing a deep dive through the series.
Ok let's run with this Duval thing. When Duval was revealed, he turned out to be relatively weak, and was mistaken for one of the Straw Hats. Therefore, Im will turn out to be incredibly strong despite being a political figure rather than a fighter per se, and will turn out to actually be one of the Straw Hats! Maybe Zoro got lost and accidentally became the ruler of the world.
