In general, a short barrel for a shotgun is a terrible idea! While a shotgun IMHO is a great option for Home Defence, I simply don’t agree with those who says you don’t need the range given by a longer barre and that the spread you get from a very short barrel is perfect to cover the entrance of a door. I don’t need it to be compact, it’s in my home, I got room to maneuver! The only time I can see a compact short barrel shotgun being of any worth to a civilian, is if it’s from a car where there’s a small space, (so you need it to be compact), and the point of entry is right next to you, (so you don’t need range and the spread is perfect for OpFor right next to the car)! But it’s still fun to watch the various ideas builders come up with - although here where I live, most of them would probably be illegal to own as a civilian.

. I'm used to shooting 12 gauge but back in 1977, I dated a girl in Georgia, when I lived there, who's mother had a .410. I took her gun and my 12 gauge out to the trash pile to try hers out. I shot one of the old style metal oil cans with mine loaded with bird shot. It peppered a bunch of little holes in it. Nothing unexpected. Then I shot another oil can with her gun. WOW, what a difference! I never belittled a .410 again after that shot. It blew a single hole the size of the palm of my hand in that can. Now, at 70, and with 11 spine surgeries under my belt.....or should I say under my shirt, I can't shoot anything more powerful than my .22, my 9mm pistol or my 3 X 9 scoped rat rifle, (my F-4 Crossman .177 cal. pellet rifle.) without rebreaking my neck. In a home defense situation, I could shoot my 12 gauge from the hip if I had to but the "whiplash", (not actual), would wreak havoc on these old rusty joints. That's why I bought the 9 mm. My 12 gauge is still loaded with it's normal ration of buckshot just in case. I have my rat rifle because every time that they mow the hay field across the road, I get a new family or rodents taking up residence under my house so on nice days, I take a hand full of stale bread, bird seed or some other food and set it in the middle of my side yard, sit in a lawn chair in my driveway and wait for the coyote food to come to me. POP!, Another dead rat goes down the hill for the coyotes and gun shy my, epileptic wire haired terrier DOESN'T have another seizure. Did you know that it's legal to build and use an unregistered suppressor on an air gun? It's great because they never need cleaning, they last forever and you can build them out of PVC pipe because there's no hot flaming, gunpowder to foul or burn up their insides and they keep my dog calm.
Haha I was going to say that too. Also, the over under with the ten inch barrel "good for beginners" my ass. Someone is going to send their fingertips down range at 1,300 feet per second with that thing if they are new to firearms. There's very little to stop your hands sliding over the grip and in front of the muzzles.
@@Brutish1 I guess he gave away that he doesn't own one himself. Personally, I don't love the Aguila shells. Took them onto the range, they don't pattern very well in mine. The low recoil is very subjective though, and I don't really feel a difference. I'll probably just go with standard buckshot when I run through the shells I have.
@@lrom5445 But inside 7-10 yards is the pattern really that bad? I like #1 buck for inside the home defense - but my neighbors are fairly close so over penetration is a worry for me. The Aguila has that #1/#4 mixed load. Not optimal but should be effective at the range I would need.
Tavor TS12 is definitely my favorite of all, it replaced the spas 12 , as the bump in the night weapon, and yes, I have too many lights and lasers on it, but it only helps light up the area that is getting ready to be obliterated.😊.
Personally I’d suggest you use 12ga in a Berretta A300 Ultima Patrol shotgun. It’s not cheap, but it’s not the most expensive either and it’s extremely reliable. It’s a semiautomatic so that takes some of the recoil out of it, and it’s 12ga. So it gets the job done. Also important, is that it has a self cleaning system. You still need to clean it but, not nearly as often, that becomes very important in the long run. If you get good training on it, any home invader is going to regret assaulting you or anyone under your protection.
Any of these weird guns can be made from any old shotgun, and with a pistol grip , you get much better control, with a 10 inch bbl, you get more spread, and an effective range of about 19 feet, use a 16 to 20 inch instead
