- This past weekend I stumbled upon what I think was a huge score, but perhaps this bargain was just a bust...you tell me!

my wife broke her arm right before wood cutting this year and with no kids at home to help and the wife down for 6-8 weeks i started to look on facebook marketplace to find fire wood already split. i found a guy that would sell me a 2 cord load of those cutoffs for $200 a load delivered. i said screw it and told him id take two loads. he came with his giant dump trailer and dropped both loads in my yard. its a bit of a pita to load and move if you don't have a tractor, skid steer or a loader...but it burns super nice in the classic 6048. makes such a beautiful bed of coals. started burning in october and here we are at the end of january and im still burning it down. takes about a wheelbarrow load a day here in western wis....2 when it was really cold. great stuff.
Nice score shifty!👍👍
That load is a great idea - I a sawmill in your area has slab cut-offs that would make great firewood. Stay safe.
I get bundles of slabs and scraps from some of the mills here. They usually charge $10-15 per bundle and you get a face cord or better from each bundle. Sometimes they have reject railroad ties too. I got a dump trailer full of those for $30 before. That would be perfect for what you want. Load up the ties in the processor to cut to your 5.5 inch length and run them. A lot of them were rejected because one end was punky so if you find some chunks that are rotten just throw them in the boiler. Last load I got over there was big chunks of cherry they had been milling. There is a couple places that make pallets too can get all of that stuff you want too I just don't usually go there. They want more money for off the wall size pieces when I can get the other and its all 8-12 foot long ready for me to cut to whatever length I want.
Not a bad find Dan. If it doesn't work out the boiler or firepit won't care.😉👍
Good find
Score🎉Thanks Dan😊
Gotta love that dimensional hardwood for kindling and or what you have going on Dan ! congrats on the great haul !!
That's a deal! I'd use for my smoker and backyard fire pit.
It's the way to go for the mini firewood at that price, eventually when you get seriously busy it will speed the process big time. I'd be gathering up several loads of that to have on hand.
I'm thinking of making another trip back this weekend...lol
What a score! I bought two pallets of exactly this to burn in my shop. My shop isn’t ready yet for wood heat. When I do burn most of it escapes But looking forward to really using it as we have mostly junk trees around here. No oak, cherry or others. Near KC MO
Hahahaha. I get all kinds of cut offs from work. Joys of doing construction. I bring the trailer in and they load it for me
video idea - check the moisture right now, and monitor it until it's dry...
I'll have to check it...when cutting some of the ends off it looked really dark and wet on the inside....gonna need a little seasoning time.
Like you said, it needs more processing but you are absolutely starting with quality material. Better product in, better product out.
For my purposes, my lil wood stove would eat those as they are.
Good day, I think that what you use it for it is a great product! Have a great day!
Great find and already dry too!
At that price buy all you can, don’t have to sell much mini firewood to pay for that. Great Score.
Great score, Dan. No bark? All the shelters will breathe a sigh of relief lol. I found pieces like that one time and used a couple to make mallets.
Bill
LOL....that's right, no bark tossing with this stuff!
Good find I get the same thing for 10 less and it's already kiln dried.
That's even better yet...wow...nice!
Barkless semi seasoned hardwood chunks at that price is a steal. I'd go and get as much as is available. It's no more work than processing tree service wood.
Yeah I think I'll be going to get another load...I have a feeling it's gonna come out of the Kindlet looking great.
There is a mill over near Antigo on hwy 45, just south of town that sells stuff like that for $30 A ton.
Thanks Dan.
Good stove wood one way or the other
Sawmills also have cutoffs......
wow nice I used to go to funiture manufacture i used to get free cutt offs all most every day i once had a bay in the gurage filled up from floor to cecling abought 400 large boxes full
We have a flooring company where you can get kiln wood at no cost. Much like your find. All cutoffs
The way I look at it is. It's not a C.B.S. & S, It's more a R.esize S.plit & D.ry... And for the price of a close to size and barkless hardwood, You got a smokin deal, with minimal time and gas involved in production... Killer brother, stay cool, peace...
I like that RSD process and I have a feeling this stuff is going to split nice and clean.
Hell yeah. That's fire gold right there. I would love a couple loads of that gold. I would burn that in my wood stove just as they are
Dan,well done ✅ now you can make more money by selling it 👍😮😊❤
Yep, should be able to put a little effort in and get a whole lot more out.
For $30 bucks! That was a Home Run!! Odd ball pieces toss in the boiler ....ORRRRR......
make a special stack out at the firewood stand, put a $$ on it, and someone will pay you for it.
I put short blocks from end-cuts in my wood stove all the time. The stove will take 22"-24" so toss in two big, but short chunks, burns just fine.
My BBQ smoker wood comes as "some bark" which is "standard" or "no bark" , which gets the "premium" label.
Nice score 👍 I think it will work out for you just fine.
Some worked out even better than I thought cuz they were right around 11"...cut in half and 2 nice chunks for mini firewood. 😀👍🍻
@Back40Firewood that's awesome 😊
The true test would be to process and see what time difference is between logs and blocks. The blocks may split better.
Hello Dan, it’s a treasure for sure. Hope you can find a regular truckload from them.
Once I see how these split with the Kindlet I foresee a return trip for another load or 2.
SCORE that is all that I used to burn when I got my wood burner years ago
Usually, pallet lumber is green, not KD. Being small sized, that truckload should season quickly.
once split down it should only be another 6 months.
Dan Scores!!!!
Definitely a huge score I would go there with a dump trailer and full it up.
Score, no bark is a huge plus. Since you have the kiln and sauna to burn offall you have no waste
And the Woodhound SCORES!
Score 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Once you get a jig set up and a good way to sort the three different sizes it should be a pretty good system and cheap too. Something little boss man can help with
The chunks I picked out for Sauna wood didn't need any cutting, just the stuff for mini firewood. I found there was actually a lot of pieces right around 11" so just 1 cut gave me 2 pieces for mini.
Nice load !
Score!
Hi Dan do you know I see this happened to me back in the day with me it was off cuts of railway sleepers around 9” long perfect for kindling all chopped by hand not with a machine I sold over 160 bags a week back in the day. What I found was it was much easier to process no cutting. And the more off cuts I got the cheaper it became.
Yeah the stars & planets weren't aligned properly to have these all cut off at 5 1/2" but man that would've been nice...lol. 160 bags a week is crazy!! Wow.
@@Back40Firewood Yes when i look back to the 1970/80 where we lived then, most of the houses had coal fires and most all needed kindling or as we called them sticks then after school I would be there chopping for a hour or two then on the weekend in my dads van we would deliver the village, the good old day.
Worse case if it's a pain split it all and market it cheaper to those small fire pits with the screen lids from Walmart. Best case the small stuff etc market to same folks...
QQQ Hi Dan Years Ago I Cut down a Walnut Tree I Dropped My Talegate on My Pickup Truck and Hauled 10 ft logs 4 of Them I Took it to the Lumber Yard and He Paid Me $100 Because he Was Going Make Tables Out of Them I Wanted Some Oak logs And He Said to Park My Truck At The End of the Shoot Where the Scraps Went One Truck Load $ 80 So I Think your $ 30 Was a Big Score 👍
Score 👍🏻🇺🇸
woodhound score!
This is a treasure, I burn cut-offs all the time.
It was a score because it is wood that can used
Great find. Should pay off with minimal effort. Happy splitting.
dumpster diving find
hi there well here are my old timer thoughts .there is good and not as good . it is good looking wood but you had to pay for it ,and go get it , it is heart wood and i don't think your kindlit cares for that ,hope i am wrong .then it the wrong size and will take a lot of miter saw time ,. now if your feeding your boiler with it and you did pay for it than your defeating the whole purpose of the boiler , paying for heat , it is good that you are always to improve.i hope the kindlet likes is splitting it time will tell , best to all john
Good points...I'm hoping the Kindlet will slice & dice this stuff up no problem. Not sure about the Hard Maple or how that splits. I only had it in the woodyard one other time but I think it split fairly well. We'll find out soon.
@@Back40Firewood thanks for not being up set for raining on your parade john
