"Some people literally think that we eat dogs and snakes. Even when we correct them and reply politely, explaining what we actually eat, they don't believe us. I myself have faced that situation. They still mock by saying 'dog eaters,' 'momos,' and all. As an Assamese person, I can say that both vegetarian and non-vegetarian people exist, but we don't eat dogs or snakes. We are not Chinese, we may look different, but people should have the knowledge that the Northeast has a special armed force who fights for the nation. Both my maternal and paternal family come from an army background, and my own dad and brother, even I lost one of my cousin brothers, have been a part of it. Despite this, people still use derogatory terms like 'chinki' or 'Chinese.' There is a limit, but they crossed it.

@@Priya-zp1qgI am sorry for the experience that you have faced.
People do lack geographical and cultural knowledge.
I have lived in Northeastern states for almost 15 years and i have faced racism there as well.
People consider “bihari” as an abuse there and use it to insult a Non-NE person (they knew that i was from haryana)
Similar Assamese people face racism in Nagaland, naga people face it in Assam. A haryanvi has faced it in all NE and other indian states.
Everywhere there are good and bad people, do not judge the place or tag a whole part of the country as a single person.
I made great friends in NE who will be my friends till my last breath (that’s our plan) hopefully.

I feel proud in telling everyone here in New zealand that we Indians have diverse culture, food, language and traditional clothing. Please don't get offended. It's just they want to know what food preferences are there❤

In west bengal we also eat dried fish (we call it Shutki), not everyone likes it and it’s not an everyday food as well but it’s there in our food culture too.
You see the Odisha, Bengal, Assam, and some other north east states have many similar culture.
