Disagree. Hymns are wonderful and hugely enriched with a prosaic form. They are all of the same structure for this reason, and there are modern hymns of this form with a contemporary richness e.g. 100 billion X, or 10,000 reasons. There are a greater abundance of songs these days than what were in hymn books previously due to the multitude of styles. Some of these won't be fitting but my congregation has been blessed by a combination of the hymnal with the very personal contemporary songs. This version of Come Thou Fount shows that with the hymnal at the beginning and the epic contemporary end.

When my grandma was sick, I sent her Shane and Shane's version of No Longer Slaves. This Sunday will be the second anniversary of her death and I'm listening to Shane and Shane again while working on a painting of her. God's goodness is something that never changes, in good and bad, in mourning and in joy. What a beautiful future we have awaiting us in Jesus.

Yes you can....this is why we have backups.....God will give you strength when you understand that in your most humble and emotional moments you are connecting with God and people respond to that. There are some times that I break down in tears in personal worship, but when I take the mic it is with the understanding that I become an instrument to lead people to the thrown room and that helps to contain what I'm doing in that moment..Holy Spirit helps.

Jaden Miller no, true worship is whatever you do that makes you worship God. Personally, I’ll never understand why Christians are so nit picky about the details. Christians can’t just allow someone to do something differently from them, because it has to be wrong if that’s not the way they do it. I simply don’t have a lot of patience for people that gatekeep Christianity. “You can do it songs” are just as worshipful if they’re centered around God bringing them through their troubles. There are plenty of “you can do it” hymns, too. It Is Well With My Soul, Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior, God Will Make A Way, Leaning On The Everlasting Arms, and many, many more, are all “you can do it” songs. So are they not worship? Or do they get a free pass because they’re hymns?

The original comment I replied to criticized “you can do it” Christian songs and stated that they aren’t worship, and that they’re just like secular music. That argument is crap and I called it out. Also, it is well literally talks about troubles and trials and how to find peace throughout them. In other words, “you can do it.”

Don't know who wrote the lyrics and melody to this beautiful song but he/she had to be filled with the Holy Spirit when they did it. I sing this wonderful hymn every night before I go to bed. It never gets old. Love this beautiful rendition. Sometimes I think it should be the Christian National Anthem.
Dear James, the man who wrote this hymn was a thuggish teen, who went to disrupt a Methodist church service. He heard the preaching, and it turned his life around. He became a Baptist pastor. Sadly, he fell out many years later, and wandered away. Riding in a carriage, seated next to a young woman who was reading a Hymnal. She was commenting on the lyrics of this song, and explaining it to him. He tried to ignore her, she went on and on. Finally he told her, I know, I wrote that hymn. Later he wrote, he would give a thousand worlds to be back, that close to God, and the happiness he had then.

This Sunday will be the second anniversary of her death and I'm listening to Shane and Shane again while working on a painting of her. Yes you can....this is why we have backups.....God will give you strength when you understand that in your most humble and emotional moments you are connecting with God and people respond to that. There are some times that I break down in tears in personal worship, but when I take the mic it is with the understanding that I become an instrument to lead people to the thrown room and that helps to contain what I'm doing in that moment..Holy Spirit helps.
Eh don't worry your normally detracted by your own pride most of the time. Being confronted by God before every worship session keeps you disciplined.

Jaden Miller no, true worship is whatever you do that makes you worship God. Personally, I’ll never understand why Christians are so nit picky about the details. Christians can’t just allow someone to do something differently from them, because it has to be wrong if that’s not the way they do it. I simply don’t have a lot of patience for people that gatekeep Christianity.
“You can do it songs” are just as worshipful if they’re centered around God bringing them through their troubles. There are plenty of “you can do it” hymns, too. It Is Well With My Soul, Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior, God Will Make A Way, Leaning On The Everlasting Arms, and many, many more, are all “you can do it” songs.
So are they not worship? Or do they get a free pass because they’re hymns?
Jaden Miller your response either seems to come from a misunderstanding of what I was originally arguing against, or a misunderstanding of what your previous comment said. “You can do it” songs and worship songs are not mutually exclusive. The original comment I replied to criticized “you can do it” Christian songs and stated that they aren’t worship, and that they’re just like secular music. That argument is crap and I called it out.
Also, it is well literally talks about troubles and trials and how to find peace throughout them. In other words, “you can do it.”
@Jaden Miller We sing only Jesus-centered worship songs in our church that aren't hymns but we also worship with hymns like this one. You may be referring to contemporary Christian music? But, I agree. Worship is unto the Lord as He deserves all of it and our lives being a worship of Him, too.

Don't know who wrote the lyrics and melody to this beautiful song but he/she had to be filled with the Holy Spirit when they did it. I sing this wonderful hymn every night before I go to bed. It never gets old. Love this beautiful rendition. Sometimes I think it should be the Christian National Anthem.

Dear James, the man who wrote this hymn was a thuggish teen, who went to disrupt a Methodist church service. He heard the preaching, and it turned his life around. He became a Baptist pastor. Sadly, he fell out many years later, and wandered away. Riding in a carriage, seated next to a young woman who was reading a Hymnal. She was commenting on the lyrics of this song, and explaining it to him. He tried to ignore her, she went on and on. Finally he told her, I know, I wrote that hymn. Later he wrote, he would give a thousand worlds to be back, that close to God, and the happiness he had then.
