Anafranil helped much more that SSRI's. 60% relief. But an older medication called Nardil (Phenelzine) completely wiped out my OCD (and social anxiety).
I swear to God, this helped me a lot. I tried all the other depression medications, Zoloft, Ecitalopram, Amitriptyline, Fluoxetine, Mianserin, all of them did not work for me over the course of 10 years until I tried Anafranil. At first, I wanted to stop it because its side effects exhausted me, but I continued taking it. I had no other choice. Now all the side effects have disappeared and disappeared. Obsessive thoughts and depression disappeared, thank God. My advice to anyone who is tired of medications is to tell you, find the right medication for you. This is the secret.

Anafranil is very effective. This is the first medication I've ever been on. Before taking it I had intrusive thoughts lasting sometimes for 23 hours per day due to my severe ocd and insomnia. Now, I take two pills of 75 mg every evening and I feel soo much better. I can fall asleep very fast and my intruisive thoughts are very rare. The only negative effects I've noticed is constipation (but in my case it's not that bad) and dry mouth.

Some people take 150mg and i think that it will be toxic for the heart I hope can help u .
I'm so happy to hear of your success story! I just started Fluoxetine last week for my OCD after my horrific experiencing with Sertraline. I've always heard from day one that Clomipramine was the 'gold standard' treatment for OCD that which all other meds are compared to. The one thing that scares me off of it is the cardiac issues it can cause. I heard that they have to regularly monitor your heart when taking it. Is that true?? At any rate, I wish you continued success on that med!!!
Good to hear it! I’ve been struggling with suicidal thoughts and things like these that I know it’s not what I want for me. My doctor prescribes me this medication and I’m going to try it! You look so happy and I’m happy for you!!
I’m so happy you found a med that works for you. This is Prozac for me! And my ocd symptoms were also increased in the beginning on mine, for about a week.
I understand that each experience is different, but has anyone experienced significant weight gain from this medication? At this point, I will try anything to potentially decrease my intrusive thoughts (this is priority, as they are currently destroying my quality of life). Saying this, my weight increased by 30kg over the past two years due to poor mental health - I’m anxious about my weight problem getting worse on this medication! Thank you all. I’m thrilled this medication has worked for many of you. Xo
If anything I think this medication made me loose weight tbh, one of the main side effects listed is weight gain but on other sources it says weight loss or weight changes. If you don’t mind other side effects including sever constipation! then it is a really good medication for OCD/intrusive thoughts etc.
@@calpol92 Thank you so much for your response - I appreciate it. :) I started on it two weeks ago and am already noticing a subtle change (for the better) in my compulsion severity. I was emotionally eating beforehand due to the mental toll of my compulsions. Fingers crossed this med works out. I’m glad to hear it is working for you, and thanks again for your comment.
@@miap6844 Yeah no problem it’s the only Antidepressant that’s actually worked for me properly. It is a very good drug, just a shame that the side effects are a pain in the ass.
thanks for the video, glad it helped u. I'm starting it not for OCD but for anxiety mainly. Worried about potential anhedonic effects since it's highly serotonergic. i never experienced joy from music etc on the other meds, even on Parnate to an extent (that also had brutal sides)
Clomipramine is to OCD what phenelzine is to social anxiety but beyond that I do know clomipramine can work for panic disorder. Other forms of anxiety I’m not so sure about. What’s the nature of your anxiety and how are you finding the clomipramine with regards to anhedonia now?
im so thankful you made this video! i have been considering medication for my ocd and was very very nervous about starting antidepressents to treat it. obviously everyone will react differently to medication but hearing that your experience wasnt too bad made me hopeful. i hope your ocd journey continues to go well!
Hi. Thanks for your video! I'm happy you are well. I've been taking Anafranil since 3 months ago. I've been in therapy for years and it has helped me. However, I needed medication to reduce my intrusive thoughts. Now, I feel great, but I'm afraid about finishing my treatment because I don't want my OCD symptoms to come back. Are you still taking medication? Could symptoms come back after finishing a medication treatment?
This medication is horrendous the side effects are a nightmare it gave me severe insomnia, high temperature, increased anxiety, ocd and depression completly kills your libido for a long time went onit for around a year first time and coming off is absolute torture it is the worst experience you will ever face and test you're mental strength because it takes a hell of a lot of determination to go through the withdrawal symptoms. When it did finally kick in it worked for a short while and I felt great but it wasn't worth going rheough hell of side effects and withdrawal symptoms for the short time it actually works.
Hi me too I used it fir couple of years, and stopped it since more than 2 years now and still not feeling my best. Hiw was your experiences? Are you still off it ?
@@rrreeaz7722 been off it for around 2 years, I developed insomnia and massive anxiety and my old symptoms got worse but that's because I was treating the symptoms not the source of what I have that is ptsd and adhd and these meds make symptoms worse.

It’s just about what you can and can’t tolerate and whether the benefits outweigh the side-effects for you. Only you can make that call, not your doctor/GP. The side-effects for you clearly outweighed whatever beneficial effects it may have had and that’s fair enough.
When i was young i used anafranil but it has several Side effects. Now i am sure how to solve ocd. The exact solution is act( acceptance and commitment). İt helps to understand how brain works. İ dont beleive that tca or ssri may be solution. Also it has many Side effects on parasymphatatic system.
I took one tablet of sertraline (Zoloft) for the first time a few years ago. My anxiety went through the roof, and stayed there for a good few weeks. It put me off antidepressants. A I suffer from ocd aswell. Did your doctor specifically prescribe you with anafranil or did you mention this medication to him as my ocd is really bad I want to consider medication again
I mentioned it to him because ssri’s like zolift didnt work well with me either. Its worth a try, but usually your symptoms get a bit worse in the first few days then after a week or so youll start to see improvements

I think this medication is helping me as well. Im still trying to perfect the timing of it though. Do you take it in the morning or before bed? What time is best to minimize fatigue in your out opinion?
Hello. To be honest, I don't know who I can turn to. Maybe you can tell me something. I am 19 years old. Two months ago I was prescribed carbomazepine and sonopax (anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts). The dosage was low. These medications were helping me. But then a traumatic event occurred and the medications became less effective. The doctor decided to prescribe clofranil 25 mg 3 times a day. On the second day of taking it, after sleeping: I got out of bed and just fell over, because I couldn't feel my legs, I had a burning sensation in my head, a terribly fast heartbeat and sweating. My mother and I called the attending physician and she cancelled all the medications. The first three days the condition was just awful, it was like everything was changing in my head. My blood pressure was jumping from 85 over 50 to 150 over 100. Now it's been 14 days since I've taken anything. The burning has gone, but what remains is a strange condition: impaired tactile sensations, sleep disturbance, a strange feeling in my head, a feeling of weakness in my limbs and their remoteness (as if I do not feel them periodically or feel them remotely), drowsiness, etc. Before taking clofranil my condition was very good: I went to the gym, studied, did voluntary work. I can't understand what could have happened in my head that now I have this condition. And I don't know if it will go away or not. Can you please tell me what it could be? Is there any way to fix what has been disturbed in my head?
Hi, 25mg 3 TIMES a day?? Thats a lot for the first dose! Idk why your doctor prescribed so much. One time i took just 10 mg more than i was supposed to and i felt so sick the whole day like i was going to throw up/ pass out. I could barely walk by mid day- this is a medication that has to be started on a low dose and increased REALLY slowly. I started with 10mg and went up by 10 mg every couple of months! Im now on 50mg ONCE a day and ive been taking it for a year! I cant speak much to the sciency side of things but this is a strong medication i think the mistake was they started you on such a high dose. It sounds like it might have caused serotonin syndrome. Look it up, it happens when you take a dose of meds that alter the serotonin in your brain that is too high! This is just my opinion im no medical professional but if you still feel bad you should speak to the doctor about it (maybe not the same one that prescribed u the clofranil because it sounds like they didnt know what they were doing).
Adhdbaddie does it help with anxiety? I have panic attacks and anxiety and took 10-25mgs 14 years ago initially but came off 10mgs every other day as the manufacturers stopped the dose. I have tried to get on this again but couldn't due to side effects. I've tried so Many others but they don't help my anxiety and I just feel weird on them. My psych has suggested I try again...tried 8 times...he thinks I haven't been able to get on them because of my anxiety mistaking it for side effects. I would like to try again but I got shaking, sweating, lockjaw, agitation, confusion, increased anxiety, paranoia, restlessness....maybe I didnt, maybe I was just ill I don't know. Anyway did you have anxiety and panic attacks too and did it help? Xx
Ive been on anafranil for 2 weeks now for my OCD, I have terrible side effects, such as drowziness, severe dizziness all day long, sweating, fast heart rate. I spoke to my doctor and he said be patient these side effects will go away give it some time. Did you or anyone experience such side effects and it disappeared after ?
Yes i experienced these! But they went away for me after a few weeks. But i would say it was moderate for me not severe however When I tried to up my dose I experienced this really badly I felt really sick from them literally thought i was gonna collapse so maybe your dose is too high?
@@audhdbaddie the doctor started me with 37.5mg a day (half pill of 75mg). I am following up with him on weekly basis for my side effects he promissed it will go away I just need to rest. I started taking Sertraline for Anxiety and panic attacks and then stopped right after 3 dosages because of rapid heartbeats and suicidal thoughts (Which I never had before). It was horrible!!!! I immediately contacted another psychiatrist after that and he prescribed Clomipramine to me. I have been taking this for the last 4 days 50 mg at night and I already feel better. I feel very sleepy though and also worried about the fact that it will stay that way. Ahh im sorry to hear that. You could give it a try! I tried about 4 different types of antidepressants until i found one that worked. I don't know what to do, as I 'm scared of side effects which I'm experiencing .
I kbow the side effects are pretty strong at the beginning, thay may last a month or so but its SO worth it😭. But the constipation was REALLY bad for me too and it is every time i up my dose. Some things u can try for it are: coffee, chocolate/Nutella, hydrate yourself EXTRA, think about something that makes you anxious like sick in your stomach anxious (that may sound crazy but it worked for me, bc when ur that constipated u will try anything😂😆) e.g. think about sending a risky text to someone, n draft out the text as if you will send it - idk what ideas to give but thats what i did and it worked hahah. Also laxatives could be a last resort. And for me the blurry vision took a while to go too but in the end this medication saved me and has made brought my ocd down to like 5% rather than affecting me 90% of the time like it used to!

Has anyone experienced the constipation with Clomipramine and has come off it ? When do your bowels go back to normal when you’re completely off Clomipramine ? Appreciate any reply’s.
I'm surprised you're doing so well on such a low dose for OCD. Only 30 mg a day? From what I've read online, they recommend you start with 25 mg, and over two weeks, work your way up to 100 mg as your maintenance dose, and then you may increase the dose up to a maximum for 250 mg. Keeping in mind that everyone is different, would you say your OCD was moderate or severe? Another Q, do you take any other psychoactive medications?
Yupp, it has a lot to do with my weight/ metabolism. Most medications work on me in low doses as i have a fast metabolism that being said my ocd was severe but i also did 7 months of intensive ERP therapy which really helped! I am looking to up the dose soon as i can notice it creeping back but still doing good :) and no i only take this for ocd.
when you say you learned to deal with the stomach issues, do you still get constipated? If so, how do you deal with that? I went on Anafranil for a bout 2 weeks and started seeing some real improvements BUT the constipation was brutal. Would love to know that it gets better or ways of combatting that. Thanks!
Im ok now, it happens very rarely but honestly you just kind of have to wait it out. Find your foods that make you 💩 yourself 😂 and eat them throughout the days that constipation is bad. For me those foods are: chocolate, tangerines& oranges, coffee (drink not food i know). It was bad honestly i even tried laxatives and they didnt really work BUT with time it goeas away. Hemmoroid cream was needed LOOL. BUT that being said i would do the first month of being on Anafranil all over again if it means my ocd is kept at bay. I cant stress how life changing it has been, its amazing at reducing intrusive thoughts and helping with mental compulsions too. It does get better

It’s just about what you can and can’t tolerate and whether the benefits outweigh the side-effects for you. Only you can make that call, not your doctor/GP. The side-effects for you clearly outweighed whatever beneficial effects it may have had and that’s fair enough.

I think this medication is helping me as well. Im still trying to perfect the timing of it though. Do you take it in the morning or before bed? What time is best to minimize fatigue in your out opinion?
I take it at night because it helps me get to sleep!

The U.K. is a lot slower to taper the dose up to the average (150 milligrams) than America, that’s why.
when you say you learned to deal with the stomach issues, do you still get constipated?
