Oumaima BIDEQ Same my mom thought it was my imagination 😂 so when i talked to a physcologist about it and she says i had grapheme colour synesthesia. does anyone else see days of the week, months (in word form and number) and dates as colour?
This makes me want to cry. I spent my whole life pushing it down and blocking it out, it made my will like iron and my life harder. Numbers had gender, personality and age, math problems became stories. In order to have a normal life, I had to block it. Feeling and seeing sound only increased with age, especially after motherhood. If I don’t like someone’s voice, I can feel in my own sinus cavity every crevice being vibrated and can almost taste the viscosity. I’m a voice bigot. I can’t help it. I’m so glad there are others..
I get the voice synesthesia too. Some voices are liquid, musical and sweet, others can be rough and raw and tastes like a sore throat. Bill O'Reilly's voice tastes like apple flavored oatmeal to me.
I pushed it away or didn't really think about it or even think it was abnormal. But when you find out you have it and actually consciously tap into it, it's pretty freaky. I worked where remembering license plates and vin numbers quickly was very important. I would never get it wrong because I wasn't remembering numbers, I was looking at a color (or more like a bar that would go from a blend of, say, red to blue to orange = 529) that I saw. It was always hard to explain to people because they think you are seeing colors like a hallucination, LOL.
This is a really good general introduction to synesthesia, and I love that he gave a few different examples for each form he covered. It really is, at it's core, just a different way that the brain can perceive the world and organize data.
This was very interesting to watch. I am also a synesthete, and It blew my mind the different colors you saw. For w I see a majentaish purpleish color that i can't really describe and for 9 I see a navy/ very dark purple. I love having this because it makes reading very interesting.

I have the best kind of synesthesia: I hear colors, shapes, and patterns 👍😊😄 and I love it. I also see music notes in color. The reason why I love the key of F major so much is because F is dark green, A is brown, and C is scarlet. The colors of each note are consistent regardless of the pitch. A squealing high F is dark green, a medium F is dark green, and a deep, rumbling F is just as dark green as the high and middle ones. My favorite melody, the hymn tune FOREST GREEN by Rafe Vaughan Williams, is in the key of F major. But I loved the key of F major all my life, whereas I have only known the tune FOREST GREEN since Advent 1988. I think the first composition I liked in the key of F was Praise the Lord O Heavens (tune: Hyfrydol) or As with Gladness Men of Old (tune: Dix). But I love FOREST GREEN even more than Dix and Hyfrydol (especially in the past decade). Dix is my third favorite melody after Forest Green and Grafenberg, and Hyfrydol is somewhere in my Top Twenty Favorite hymn tunes. Forest Green is *the musical love of my life (along with the organ)*
For me, A is red, F is aquamarine and C is bright pink. For some reason, it's the same for my grapheme-colour synesthesia (I was diagnosed with multiple synesthesias: chromesthesia, grapheme-colour, spatial sequence, auditory-tactile and mirror-touch- idk how I survive tbh) but yeah the colours stay the same no matter what pitch it is.
I don't get it. You're saying "A squealing high F is dark green, a medium F is dark green, and a deep, rumbling F is just as dark green as the high and middle ones." I can't even conceive of this -- please don't take offence. It doesn't work like that for me. The "high" F would be a light, bright colour, the "mid-range" F would be a sort of golden brown (variable, according to the instrument), whereas a "low" F would be a dark brown. I first noticed my own synaesthesia as a child. A car engine (petrol/gasoline) was always brown, whereas a diesel engine was always grey. When I was eleven, starting high-school, there were two bells that rang at the beginning and end of every period, and in our classroom we could hear both. One was silver, the other gold. So I imagine my variation of synaesthesia depends on the frequency of the sound -- the higher the frequency, the lighter the colour. Syllables in words also have different colours. For example, CANADA is a sort of egg-shell white, repeated three times. UK would be a dark indigo, orange. USA would be dark indigo, off-white, orange. Germany: light brown, egg-shell, light grey. Incidentally, I love Forest Green too.
Thanks for sharing your experience as a synesthete. I have a little of it. For example, if I pet the white fur of a cat, I taste coconut cake frosting. I can also hear sounds related to things I'm seeing. Daniel Tammet, the famous British savant who can learn any language in a short amount of time, had an ease with math because he saw every number, up to somewhere around 240 I think, as a different sensory experience. In his mind, they were individuals, like playmates.
Kat Knable math and me clash like anything, but my next favorite subject is languages. The reason I detest math is because numbers, unlike music and languages, don't express emotion, and I love emotional expression.
I thought *everyone* saw months, days of the week, decades, numbers, in patterns around them. I was stunned to learn that is not the case. Misophonia? OMG yes. THAT is a curse!
Fuuu.... I knew I had grapheme color synesthesia, and the personification thing with numbers (letters aren’t as strong) but I had NO IDEA about spatial sequence. I had always seen the months as going in a triangle from left to right. Weekdays are in a circle. I just realized that is a type of synesthesia. I thought it was just a thing that most people did in their heads. Maybe that’s why my family game me a weird look when I asked if their months were in shapes..
I have always seen months in a circle. But I don’t think it is a perfect circle because the last four months feel different (flatter?) then the rest of the year. And it is currently April at the moment, and I visualise September (in my head) from a completely different viewpoint than when it actually is September. I see weekdays as more linear, but again it depends on which day I am currently on how I see the other days of the week. I am super curious to know of people that don’t actually have a visual concept of the passage of time.
This is exactly what I have. Every example he displayed on screen is what I experience, but his graphemes are different. A is green B is yellow, etc. The temporal spatial synesthesia is the weirdest to explain to other people. Sounds have color, colors have personalities, and flavors have shapes for me. I am very good at memorizing many things, so that def helps. Where I work, I don’t need paperwork, I have orders memorized into the thousands.
omg i have this!!! I’ve always seen colors for words, numbers, and days of the week. it’s cool and I’ve discovered a somewhat practical use for synaesthesia: i can put my debit card info, bank acct and routing number in my notes in the form of colors and phone thieves won’t figure it out but i haven’t failed yet (haven’t had to look up my account/routing number in years!) that and it’s just fun to know that you have something rare that you can call your own :-)
It helps so much, I have a job that I have to remember 8 digit numbers to run line tests, find it so much easier than the other engineers cos I’m just remembering the colours of my numbers instead
Misophonia is something I’ve experienced my whole life. He says Synesthesia has more good than bad but I’ve never experienced that to be true with Misophonia. Anyone else? Any thoughts?
Both good to bad for me. Mostly good but bad is still better than nothing at all. My emotions even feel like temperatures and textures, mostly good. The cold (I don't like cold) are often with good emotions so it's a wash. Sounds definitely connected to my emotions. My son is this type also. Movies are incredibly sound/emotion packed for me. I start shaking during movies.
I was surprised to discover that not everyone sees the world the way I do. I also find it very interesting that time space synesthesia, which is what I have, seems to have greater uniformity in what is experienced than grapheme color. I can confirm that it greatly aids my memorization and also recall of when events took place, and that's a pretty cool advantage to have.
Orange is number 4, orange and orange is Brown or 8. I suffer from Misophonia, the sweeping of water with a hard bristle broom makes me recoil with disgust; the thought from just typing that made me cringe! Am also on the spectrum. I've often wondered whether the increased sensitivities to light, sound, smells, touch was linked or related to synesthesia!
What are you talking about, orange is 9. Brown is 6. Brown, orange fall colors, 3, 6, 9? nothing? Haha just kidding, but that's how mine is. Also weird that all my numbers have a color except 3. 3 is a little OCD with me, maybe that's why.
I used to connect numbers to 2d lines. 1 would be going straight up, while 2 would be going to the right, and so on. That was before my extreme spatial sequence synethesia/ hyperthymesia kicked in
I relate to this guy, I also have grapheme-color synesthesia l and LOVE filmmaking and acting. Integrating the sound, sight, and emotion of film just comes naturally when you're a synesthete, I guess :D
What I’m hearing is that I am intolerant to a lot of things because they don’t match up with the senses I feel. I’m an artist and I have visual audio synesthesia There are who I don’t feel comfortable with everything is telling me to get away from them like a magnet. It pushes me away from them. What I find is that when I push against that magnet, I am wrong in my assumption.
I hear music when i see a person, i smell people without have contact, i feel pain or electric impulses in different parts of my body depends what i see. I can feel when someone is coming and is close to arrive, colors have smells and taste and there's a halo around everything that has any form of energy of life it looks beautiful although is very distracting.
I don't really think it classifies as synesthesia, it seems more like a manifestation of anxiety or panic disorder. I have a friend with misophonia who says it's kind of a side effect of her anxiety, so I think that would make more sense. (coming from someone who has both synesthesia and anxiety)
I always ask my friends to explain to me what they picture when they think of months, days of the week, the alphabet etc. I find it difficult to imagine not having synesthesia. I have time space synesthesia and it’s almost a comfort to me in a way, the fact that each January I move along my minds timeline slightly is very satisfying lol. As time moves on my view of the timeline does too, so I also find it difficult to get my head around the fact that in 30 years I will be very far along my timeline and the view will be very different to now. If that makes any sense.
I am the exact same way. I have the extreme end of spatial sequence synesthesia/ Hyperthymesia, so not remembering everything and seeing time completely different is beyond me...
Mine is similar to yours i think. my grapheme-color is very strong, and my months are laid out in order. when i am thinking of a certain month, there is sort of a spotlight on it and i can see all the other ones on the sides of it, but there is kind a fade into dark on the edges. it's really cool and i used to think everyone had it too!
Valerie starts with a golden yellow V, but the overall name is pink, and it tastes faintly of cake frosting. Also, the number 216 is red, white, and blue-- in that order.
Anyone here being able HEARING MOVEMENT? i feel its like the rarest type of synesthesia that ppl talk about. I barely find anyone talking about it when i look up synesthesia

I have synesthesia too!! I have Object personification, OLP, grapheme, and a few others I can’t remember. Almost every object has a personality, numbers, letters, words, days, and months have personalities and colours. Object personification is a bit overwhelming, everything has a personality, it’s really crazy lol (it’s been amplified in quarantine). OLP is super fun, I have stories for my number friends :). Grapheme is cool lol. Also it made me super upset when you showed the different colors and personalities because those are mine, and I guess it feels so wrong for them to be that colour.
Aah sweet! I were not born with synesthesia, but I was born as a "obeserver" and sensitive. A couple of years ago I started to meditate and "develop" synesthesia. during my meditations I feel music, I see color and shapes moving. The color I see the most was the green/grayish he talked about. And my spatial sence gets distorted, so it´s like I am having a little taste of synesthesia, the music/tactile connection is the only thing that is actually synesthetic. But as I go out of meditation, this goes away, wich makes me wonder if it could be developed. Something else that happens if I am in that state though is that I get blurred vision, sometimes I see double and it wont go away for a while after the meditation stopped and I get trouble with balance. So whenever I get a taste of the "synesthetic sensory" it´s on behalf of some of my basic funtiones. This is scary, but so exiting, but sence it´s so powerful I don´t actually know if it is safe. Before I learned about syneshesia, I just thought that I was pushing my self closer to psychosis or something, but I believe it is something different. or is there a link? someone knows about any good research about this topic?
Same! This also happens to me and its really weird. That’s when I discovered that everything is energy and that my perception of people with their colours and auras where true.
Thank you for this. I just discovered that not everyone has this and my husband asked if I have brain damage and I camt sleep because I'm not sure. This helped. Thank you.
I don't see colors (I wish I did!!) but my letters, numbers, days of the week, months of the year, colors, and even objects have a gender. Also, I can smell people on tv sometimes. I know... that's REALLY weird.
Fez (RIP) from the Ron & Fez show had it where people were numbers to him. You'd be a 3 or a 8 (not on looks LOL) just based on whatever was going on in his head.
Hello. I am not a synesthete in my waking life, but I had a synesthetic dream. I had pitch color. D major was dark green, G flat was dark red, and middle C was dark blue. Does having a synesthetic dream give way to having synesthesia and not knowing it? Does anyone know why or how I had this experience? Any answers?
time and space may be one everyone has synesthesia with, they just don't notice. I use a technique to help people that involves neuroplasticity, and occasionally I have to use some hypnogrammar. Now they don't go into a trance or get hypnotized. But I do work with their sense of time and space very physically. The illustration above around 5:25...everyone has something like that they're not aware of. I figure out what shape theirs is just to make life easier for me. Then I start using it therapeutically. Sometimes they're like train tracks, or a weird shape, or a path, or a ladder, or who knows! there's some real odd ones out there. Once you start to unravel that there isn't just "now", that there was a yesterday and there is a today and there will be a tomorrow, once our baby brains figure that out, we make a mode of it in a way that makes sense to our own self. That's what we do. Make models. And live in those models and on very rare occasions, actual reality.
it's not colors for me it's images i have specific images and the words or numbers written somewhere in the image whenever i hear that word or number like when someone says apple the first think that comes to my mind is the image of a red apple with the word apple in red on top of it also i can't focus on what im actually seeing if there's loud different sounds around i don't know if it's synesthesia but yeah....
I really don't see my synesthesia as a disorder. I have colour grapheme synesthesia and number line/calendar synesthesia. I also see patterns and colours when I hear music (which look a lot like the old Windows XP music player randomisations). However these are all projected in mind's eye rather than onto the outside world. I think it would be far more intrusive if I could taste of smell words. I never knew this was unusual until I saw a woman describing it on TV when I was about 10. She said that Wednesday was red and I shouted out "no it's not its purple!". Anyway my Mom & Dad were confused because they didn't experience the world in this way. Then I became equally confused because I thought EVERYONE saw the world like this. Turns out my sister has it too.
Unfortunately the synaesthesia isn't helpful for the world, this talent is pointless for survive in this cynical jungle society. In the world need be cunning and sly. I am synesthete.
A lot of synesthetes have to get smarter because we work in a society built around different cognition then ours and we have to figure stuff out for ourselves. So sometimes it manifests in stuff like skipping 9/12 steps on a task because we can just see it more clearly because we figured out the underlying purpose and mechanism, where other people will focus on memorizing steps because they don't understand what they're doing. So not smarter, we just put in a lot more work everyday.

As a synesthete, watching these videos always feels so wrong. Like why is your W blueeeee thoooo?
True
its indigo!
my W is also blue lol
I used to connect numbers to 2d lines. 1 would be going straight up, while 2 would be going to the right, and so on. That was before my extreme spatial sequence synethesia/ hyperthymesia kicked in
Mine is like a dark navy blue...
I relate to this guy, I also have grapheme-color synesthesia l and LOVE filmmaking and acting.
Integrating the sound, sight, and emotion of film just comes naturally when you're a synesthete, I guess :D
Disney's Fantasia is a good movie for synesthetes. Movement, patterns, rhythm, and intensity of sound and color all synchronize.
@@brucekeys4910 I'll definitely consider watching it!
@@amalia_ag You can see clips from Fantasia on RUclips. If I remember correctly there is no talking, just music.
Misophonia is a form of synesthesia?? Great I have the worst one....
I see colors with music and scents.
That sounds wonderful
Synesthesia is not a disorder, it is a condition because we have a different variant of axonigenesis genes. I have synesthesia since childhood. :-)
How amazing :D
1(white), 2(blue), 3(NONE-is this normal? 3 is a little OCD with me), 4,(green), 5(red), 6(brown), 7(yellow), 8(purple), 9(orange), 0(black)
Valerie starts with a golden yellow V, but the overall name is pink, and it tastes faintly of cake frosting. Also, the number 216 is red, white, and blue-- in that order.
broooo i havethis and i have it so much like youuuuuu
Anyone here being able HEARING MOVEMENT? i feel its like the rarest type of synesthesia that ppl talk about. I barely find anyone talking about it when i look up synesthesia
Me! I can hear silent movements. For example, I can hear my eyeballs move, a tv show on mute, and someone’s finger moving back and forth.
do people see the pattern in the light beams when sunlight reflects off a car for example? i dont think its just me. got kids shows showing sun beams n things. but theres a definite pattern if you look at a bright light kinda like a magic eye painting... not just me is it? not just the beams but the pattern inside/between the beams...?
cant really find a word for it on google
You should look up ti_me_to_mass_so_i_exist on Instagram... do get back to me
@@HoppingReaper nah im not into conspiracies unless they are real. iran contra, gulf of tonkin type things.
think this is jsut be some kinda refraction pattern from paint or air or something. not the illuminati
@@greensoplenty6809 my guy what are you talking about? Nobody said anything about the 'illuminati'... What you express shows a lot about yourself lol
That sounds like you can see uv
@@garethanddylanjohn3213 idk still havnt found an answer
theres little chevrons between the beams going into infinity like a fractal, they alternate, one row facing towards then between next beam they face away, if you hold really still they dont move, when i move at all they look like they are flowing. took me along time to tell they werent always moving, was just from small amount of movement i was making.
I thought............................................
I'm silly to think number have gender and relationship..... I have synesthesia 😑😐
Well I am quite happy ☺️☺️☺️☺️
In my condition I think all even numbers are female while odd numbers are male except no 9 which is a female for me... and I think no.6 likes no 7, but no 7 likes no.9
Mmmmm numbers falling in love
What...??those great physicists had synesthesia.....🎑🎑🎑🎑... I am so happy....
I used to make elaborate dramas around my coloured pencils! They have gender and relationships!
To me; 1,4, 6, 10 amd 11 are female while 2,3,5,7,8,9 amd 12 are male and 12 is blue. Years too have colours for me
@@lavatoz I don't connect numbers with colors, but I always thought of 1,3,4,8 as dudes and 2,5,6,7,9 as gals, but 5 and 7 are tomboys and 9 is kinda a tomboy too but not as much as 5 and 7
@@justjulia1720 that's cool. Interesting how we possess such a "disorder" 😆
I do the same with numbers, but no color graphemes. For me 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9 are all female numbers, but only 5 is male for some reason
I have mirror.touch synesthesia and it sucks just hearing words can trigger it
I agree and mirror pain sucks too!
I have a really weird one. I can see smells as irregular shapes. That way I can rlly remember what a smell is if people ask," what is that smell?" I can be like oh that is a vertical oval. People always think it is so cool and say oh what shape is this and most of the time its rlly annoying. Please if u dont have it and hassle people who do please don't it gets really irritating
Ecellent reveal of the matter, well done young man, 4℅ today i expect to be 70℅ pluss in time, thanks, very infomative, thom in scotland.
I can't hear if i can't see clearly. Is it the same?
He is so anxious!!! 😄😄
Just trying to process all the extra interactions to respond quickly for the rest of the world
I do not have any synesthesia but I can feel his nervousness through the screen and it makes me nervous
But great information 🤗🤗
I’m not diagnosed with anything. But every day has a personality and flavour. Every number has a colour. And every person has a number, colour, shape and time. Is that weird?
Most people with synesthesia aren't diagnosed cuz its not really necessary (synesthesia is not really bad). What you described sounds like synesthesia
I tried to Google what is wrong with Me and why i feal a satisfaction and need to taste of feal something satisfying, something that you cant reatch or taste like a star , or a vew, or glitter ,a shining and etc satisfying looking things and imagine them,- that shining lite, glittery shining , or vew, or a colour ,or painting actualy tastes like something godish, smels like something delicious but didnt find anything simmilar to it accept pica disorder and this synesthesia but its just not it its not even synesthesia and i dont know am i the onely one that way am i an alient or something or what or is it some sort of new disorder that is simmilar to pica and synesthesia both combined . and if it would be edable i could eat even a whole bunch of galaxy millkie ways and i just feal like that would and does taste some tipe of magic. and as i said before my problem isnt pica or synesthesia its something verry simmilar to synesthesia but its just not it , so can someone plz tell Me what is going on with Me or is i just crrrrraaazy and ofcourse i hope not but... i also have other weard habbit a habbit to draw, write alien-ish letters symbols as if they would mean some letter or word or is just a symbol. i hope that someone reads my comment and explains it to Me. also i draw those symbols weard shrifts almost like a maniac on my school notebooks its just that i see them or imagine them and write them down and they look so like they would be some actual language letters, or symbols meaning something in a some sort of mysteryous language but its also relaxing really , and i am an artcy person . So like i said i dont know , so i just hope that someone can help Me figure out those things and no its also not an OCD or shizophrania just mentioning. You sound really cool to me...
I am sorry but I don't know what's going on with you...even I don't know what's going on with me...
When I am doing maths for some moments suddenly the numbers appear 100x bigger than me I feel very small to them and I became irritated by numbers❔❓❔⁉️
... but your story sounds really aaawwwwweeeeeeeeeeeesooooommmme to me
I have synesthesia too!!
"5 is a little boy who wear caps" so true hahahahah
I’m literally a superhuman.
I also stopped meditating because I got scared and thought I was going to get some kind of psychosis lol
Thank you for this. I just discovered that not everyone has this and my husband asked if I have brain damage and I camt sleep because I'm not sure. This helped. Thank you.
Any fellow Sysantiawhatevers love Microsoft Paint?
I don't see colors (I wish I did!!) but my letters, numbers, days of the week, months of the year, colors, and even objects have a gender. Also, I can smell people on tv sometimes. I know... that's REALLY weird.
Fez (RIP) from the Ron & Fez show had it where people were numbers to him. You'd be a 3 or a 8 (not on looks LOL) just based on whatever was going on in his head.
First comment!
I only get this ability in dmt
Ok Joe Rogan
😄 haha I have Synesthesia but I busted out laughing reading your comment
i have that often on acid
Quite bold of him to say there are only two types of grapheme color synesthesia, there could be more we just don't know about
ya I alone have ~4 kinds
Who has nubmer Form synesthesia?
Synesthesia is not a disorder.
it's not colors for me it's images i have specific images and the words or numbers written somewhere in the image whenever i hear that word or number like when someone says apple the first think that comes to my mind is the image of a red apple with the word apple in red on top of it also i can't focus on what im actually seeing if there's loud different sounds around i don't know if it's synesthesia but yeah....
There is a doctor who shares my synesthesia, called Mirror-touch synesthesia and he feels his patients' pain. It's actually helpful.
JR Corporation you know what is helpful knowing how to articulate comprehensible sentences
Exactly how I feel. I have mirror pain synesthesia it is horrible!
I always see W as darker blue instead of light blue , is there something wrong on me as a synesthete ?
Everyone sees letters as different colors. My W is red while somebody else’s is green. It’s unique for everyone
ya you're ok mine is purple
My type of s. Means Only advantages
I have the same type, but no personification of numbers och letters
I have lexical gustatory one
"Indigo Children" - ?
Has anyone noticed a connection to ADHD? I have both
Can anyone else experience velcro on their tongue?
Yesss me! It was so overwhelming! Lol it stopped many years ago, specially after I was on antidepressants
Ohhhhhh I thought it made you smarter . You're brain just works differently then most people. Mehhh not that jealous anymore :D
I came work with me?
to many drugs
😂😂 no just synesthesia
LMBO my friends dad thinks I do drugs and i'm just like no it's jus my brain
What! 9 is obviously blue and is a man
No it's a female and brown
