    This makes me want to cry. I spent my whole life pushing it down and blocking it out, it made my will like iron and my life harder. Numbers had gender, personality and age, math problems became stories. In order to have a normal life, I had to block it. Feeling and seeing sound only increased with age, especially after motherhood. If I don’t like someone’s voice, I can feel in my own sinus cavity every crevice being vibrated and can almost taste the viscosity. I’m a voice bigot. I can’t help it.
    I’m so glad there are others..

      I pushed it away or didn't really think about it or even think it was abnormal. But when you find out you have it and actually consciously tap into it, it's pretty freaky. I worked where remembering license plates and vin numbers quickly was very important. I would never get it wrong because I wasn't remembering numbers, I was looking at a color (or more like a bar that would go from a blend of, say, red to blue to orange = 529) that I saw. It was always hard to explain to people because they think you are seeing colors like a hallucination, LOL.

    I have the best kind of synesthesia: I hear colors, shapes, and patterns 👍😊😄 and I love it. I also see music notes in color. The reason why I love the key of F major so much is because F is dark green, A is brown, and C is scarlet. The colors of each note are consistent regardless of the pitch. A squealing high F is dark green, a medium F is dark green, and a deep, rumbling F is just as dark green as the high and middle ones. My favorite melody, the hymn tune FOREST GREEN by Rafe Vaughan Williams, is in the key of F major. But I loved the key of F major all my life, whereas I have only known the tune FOREST GREEN since Advent 1988. I think the first composition I liked in the key of F was Praise the Lord O Heavens (tune: Hyfrydol) or As with Gladness Men of Old (tune: Dix). But I love FOREST GREEN even more than Dix and Hyfrydol (especially in the past decade). Dix is my third favorite melody after Forest Green and Grafenberg, and Hyfrydol is somewhere in my Top Twenty Favorite hymn tunes. Forest Green is *the musical love of my life (along with the organ)*

    • @milkycloud.
      @milkycloud. 5 лет назад +2

      For me, A is red, F is aquamarine and C is bright pink. For some reason, it's the same for my grapheme-colour synesthesia (I was diagnosed with multiple synesthesias: chromesthesia, grapheme-colour, spatial sequence, auditory-tactile and mirror-touch- idk how I survive tbh) but yeah the colours stay the same no matter what pitch it is.

    • @richardkomorowski6022
      @richardkomorowski6022 2 года назад

      I don't get it. You're saying "A squealing high F is dark green, a medium F is dark green, and a deep, rumbling F is just as dark green as the high and middle ones." I can't even conceive of this -- please don't take offence. It doesn't work like that for me. The "high" F would be a light, bright colour, the "mid-range" F would be a sort of golden brown (variable, according to the instrument), whereas a "low" F would be a dark brown.
      I first noticed my own synaesthesia as a child. A car engine (petrol/gasoline) was always brown, whereas a diesel engine was always grey.
      When I was eleven, starting high-school, there were two bells that rang at the beginning and end of every period, and in our classroom we could hear both. One was silver, the other gold.
      So I imagine my variation of synaesthesia depends on the frequency of the sound -- the higher the frequency, the lighter the colour.
      Syllables in words also have different colours. For example, CANADA is a sort of egg-shell white, repeated three times. UK would be a dark indigo, orange. USA would be dark indigo, off-white, orange. Germany: light brown, egg-shell, light grey.
      Incidentally, I love Forest Green too.

    Thanks for sharing your experience as a synesthete. I have a little of it. For example, if I pet the white fur of a cat, I taste coconut cake frosting. I can also hear sounds related to things I'm seeing. Daniel Tammet, the famous British savant who can learn any language in a short amount of time, had an ease with math because he saw every number, up to somewhere around 240 I think, as a different sensory experience. In his mind, they were individuals, like playmates.

    Fuuu.... I knew I had grapheme color synesthesia, and the personification thing with numbers (letters aren’t as strong) but I had NO IDEA about spatial sequence. I had always seen the months as going in a triangle from left to right. Weekdays are in a circle. I just realized that is a type of synesthesia. I thought it was just a thing that most people did in their heads. Maybe that’s why my family game me a weird look when I asked if their months were in shapes..

    • @plan4life
      @plan4life 4 года назад +1

      I have always seen months in a circle. But I don’t think it is a perfect circle because the last four months feel different (flatter?) then the rest of the year. And it is currently April at the moment, and I visualise September (in my head) from a completely different viewpoint than when it actually is September. I see weekdays as more linear, but again it depends on which day I am currently on how I see the other days of the week. I am super curious to know of people that don’t actually have a visual concept of the passage of time.

    I was surprised to discover that not everyone sees the world the way I do. I also find it very interesting that time space synesthesia, which is what I have, seems to have greater uniformity in what is experienced than grapheme color. ( I'll really wait for responses)( mostly from someone who knows that cind of stuff).🙃🤗😇👍🕵️🤗 Or mabie it is a synesthesia į dont know🤷

    I have synesthesia too!! I have Object personification, OLP, grapheme, and a few others I can’t remember. Almost every object has a personality, numbers, letters, words, days, and months have personalities and colours. Object personification is a bit overwhelming, everything has a personality, it’s really crazy lol (it’s been amplified in quarantine). OLP is super fun, I have stories for my number friends :). Grapheme is cool lol.
    Also it made me super upset when you showed the different colors and personalities because those are mine, and I guess it feels so wrong for them to be that colour.

    Aah sweet! I were not born with synesthesia, but I was born as a "obeserver" and sensitive. A couple of years ago I started to meditate and "develop" synesthesia. during my meditations I feel music, I see color and shapes moving. The color I see the most was the green/grayish he talked about. And my spatial sence gets distorted, so it´s like I am having a little taste of synesthesia, the music/tactile connection is the only thing that is actually synesthetic. But as I go out of meditation, this goes away, wich makes me wonder if it could be developed. Something else that happens if I am in that state though is that I get blurred vision, sometimes I see double and it wont go away for a while after the meditation stopped and I get trouble with balance. So whenever I get a taste of the "synesthetic sensory" it´s on behalf of some of my basic funtiones. This is scary, but so exiting, but sence it´s so powerful I don´t actually know if it is safe. Before I learned about syneshesia, I just thought that I was pushing my self closer to psychosis or something, but I believe it is something different. or is there a link? someone knows about any good research about this topic?

      Same! This also happens to me and its really weird. That’s when I discovered that everything is energy and that my perception of people with their colours and auras where true.

    I don't see colors (I wish I did!!) but my letters, numbers, days of the week, months of the year, colors, and even objects have a gender. Also, I can smell people on tv sometimes. I know... that's REALLY weird.

      Fez (RIP) from the Ron & Fez show had it where people were numbers to him. You'd be a 3 or a 8 (not on looks LOL) just based on whatever was going on in his head.

    Hello. I am not a synesthete in my waking life, but I had a synesthetic dream. I had pitch color. D major was dark green, G flat was dark red, and middle C was dark blue. Does having a synesthetic dream give way to having synesthesia and not knowing it? Does anyone know why or how I had this experience? Any answers?

    time and space may be one everyone has synesthesia with, they just don't notice. I use a technique to help people that involves neuroplasticity, and occasionally I have to use some hypnogrammar. Now they don't go into a trance or get hypnotized. But I do work with their sense of time and space very physically. The illustration above around 5:25...everyone has something like that they're not aware of. I figure out what shape theirs is just to make life easier for me. Then I start using it therapeutically. Sometimes they're like train tracks, or a weird shape, or a path, or a ladder, or who knows! there's some real odd ones out there. Once you start to unravel that there isn't just "now", that there was a yesterday and there is a today and there will be a tomorrow, once our baby brains figure that out, we make a mode of it in a way that makes sense to our own self. That's what we do. Make models. And live in those models and on very rare occasions, actual reality.

    it's not colors for me it's images i have specific images and the words or numbers written somewhere in the image whenever i hear that word or number like when someone says apple the first think that comes to my mind is the image of a red apple with the word apple in red on top of it also i can't focus on what im actually seeing if there's loud different sounds around i don't know if it's synesthesia but yeah....

    I really don't see my synesthesia as a disorder. I have colour grapheme synesthesia and number line/calendar synesthesia. I also see patterns and colours when I hear music (which look a lot like the old Windows XP music player randomisations). However these are all projected in mind's eye rather than onto the outside world. I think it would be far more intrusive if I could taste of smell words.
    I never knew this was unusual until I saw a woman describing it on TV when I was about 10. She said that Wednesday was red and I shouted out "no it's not its purple!". Anyway my Mom & Dad were confused because they didn't experience the world in this way. Then I became equally confused because I thought EVERYONE saw the world like this. Turns out my sister has it too.

    • @bf7592
      @bf7592 Год назад

      A lot of synesthetes have to get smarter because we work in a society built around different cognition then ours and we have to figure stuff out for ourselves. So sometimes it manifests in stuff like skipping 9/12 steps on a task because we can just see it more clearly because we figured out the underlying purpose and mechanism, where other people will focus on memorizing steps because they don't understand what they're doing. So not smarter, we just put in a lot more work everyday.
