Thanks dude you saved me a lot of time. It was probably easier for me because I have a Lift and engine cradle. I was able to lower the engine further. Thanks again man
Thanks for posting this video. My 2008 750 Li needs a new starter and people keep telling me its 7 hours of labor and its going to cost over $1400 to do it at the dealership but after seeing this video, I’m sure a qualified repair shop can do it for much less money. ✊🏾
Worked for me! 2004 745Li. Notes I would add - Starter comes our back first, solenoid toward the front of the car. I also had to loosen the lower control arm enough to rotate the sensor bracket out of the way. pay attn to where Rides N Wrenches puts the pry bar to tweak the exhaust, it is key. Thanks for the Video.
hi, im doing it right now, and for some reason the the subframe doesnt drop to much, so the exhaust is right there iin front of the starter, .. what do you mean by use the pray bar? where? to drop more the subdrame or wht exactly thank you!!
I am about to tackle this project soon it , I read the BMW repair documents and it only says to disengage sway bar and remove motor mount from Right side only N62tu Motor e70 x5 07
Doing this monster of a job at my job now. Loosened cradle, dropped it down some. I'll end up loosening top bolt on shaft as well tomorrow. Got the side shield bolt off now just the 2 fronts. I removed the sensor as well. Problem is the 750li I'm working on somehow grounded the starter out and the wires are cooked. So that outta be fun to repair the wires. I'm hoping I can just cut the bad part off and pigtail it but shall see. did you pull the torx bolts from the rack or left them intact? I see guys dropping whole cradle and exhaust etc. I'm not doing all of that if I don't have to.
@@ridesnwrenches1825 okay thank you, will pull the O2 in the morning . And loosen rack torx bolts. I'm interested to see how crazy the wire from the starter/alternator is to get to and replace. I think with this customers car the shield somehow grounded out the starter wire as it and the starter is cooked. Everything else in the car is working fine. No codes etc although it did throw itself in park like most higher end euros do.
Idk that doesnt Make sense the that shield would have burned threw I would trace wire first and see if anything got pinched start at the batter work your way to the alt then to the starter no use changing a starter when you have a potential grounding /fire issue
@@ridesnwrenches1825 so when u took the two bolts from the back of the starter out. U pried it out from there. I'm stuck trying to get it all the way out from its original place. Should I just slant It straight to the whole and pry it. Or do I remove it completely out of its mounting space then pry?
I highly recommend having flex head ratchet wrenches and when you take out the cradle bolts your gonna have to pry it down so it drops enough to get the hole I was talking about
That's a hard one because the starter is barried because I would say take the signal wire off and ground the starter and put power to the signal input on the starter it should jump and if it doesn't there your answer but you could try and follower that wire and see if you could do it from a easier location
Use a Power Probe. The Starter Control Wire should be fed from the IVM. The Starter Relay is inside the IVM on the 760i. You need to bypass the Relay inside the IVM. You need to know how to read Schematics to diagnose the Starter the easy way.
what a nightmare! My starter works, just the solenoid is dirty. Takes 10-15 pushes of the button for the start to run. good indication the solenoid needs to be cleaned. However, to remove this starter at home in the garage....what a nightmare!!

Certified tech myself. Great video, clearly and easy to understand instructions. Safety is a Must I totally agreed. Thank you

I didnt remove any exhaust just the o2 sensor I believe and I did loosen rack bolt or you can disconnect the steering shaft to the rack

@@ridesnwrenches1825 correct will be doing this and changing out the starter/alt wire.
Is it the same for the 2015 740li? I can't find it
Do you need an engine jack to do this
Hey how did u get the starter all the way out. I got the bolts off but the starter is still in the whole it has like 1/2 inch to come all the way out.
Use a pry bar to pushed the cradle down

It takes about 4 to 7 hours depend on the tools you have and knowledge if you have any questions. Write me and I'll help you out

What happens if you don't have a engine Jack then what?
Too dangerous if you don't use a Cherry Picker.
See I move real fast doing it the other way
Anybody near Palm Springs able to do this $$??
Ase means nothing my friend
How much would u charge someone to do this
I charged 550 for the job dealer wanted 800 for labor
What's your location
