I just want to say that I'm a 54 year old woman (from New Zealand) and I absolutely love War Of Hormone. I think it's a fun, honest, look at the way hormonal teens, and young men, find the way they look at girls changing. And I always thought the lyrics expressed that well - and very clearly.💜
I think that the only way to misunderstand the lyrics, is if you were actually trying to. But that's just my opinion.
And I would also add that War Of Hormone could as easily be sung by females about guys. Because teen girls, and young women, go through exactly the same thing. But are they criticized for it? Would they be vilified for speaking their truth? So why should guys? It's a double standard, one that seems (in my opinion) to be becoming prevalent. And that's dangerous.

It takes pressure to make diamonds. But too much and it fractures, not enough you just have coal. Bang PD challenged RM to move out of that comfort zone and the rest of the group moved with him. There are so many factors as to why BTS became who they are, one of them is that they weren't micromanaged. They had support and they had the freedom to explore and they have become a phenomenon. One day we will have justice for War of Hormone. That song makes me both giggle at the humourous portrayal of young men and feel like a goddess at the same time. At that point in time, anything BTS did or said was made into a problem. I promise you, if BTS brings this song back to live performances, the roar of approval from ARMY will be overwhelming.💜
A while ago I saw a comment from someone saying that BTS should be ashamed that they released a song like War of Hormone. And I was like, what? It’s not even that bad and definitely not misogynistic. I agree that it’s a humorous portrayal of young men who have crushes on girls.

I'm not sure you were aware that Bang PD did step down as President & CEO of HYBE so that he could spend more time as a Producer (his true love). He remains the Chairman of the Board of HYBE since it's his baby. One thing he did prior to stepping down, he made Big Hit Music 100% independent subsidiary of HYBE. On April 1, 2021, Hybe announced through a board resolution that it would separate the label business (Big Hit Music) from Hybe and establish a new company with 100% of the stake held by Hybe. So BTS, TXT & Lee Hyun and their teams are an independent entity and works with (not for) HYBE.
I respect Bang PD so much as the visionary man he is. He has shared that HYBE will not get everything right, but they will continue to learn and grown.
49:09: Probably you didn't hear Born Singer because it wasn't on any of their albums -- I believe they just performed it live -- until they got the ok from J. Cole to record it in their studio and release it on their Proof album. 41:18 - "Do You" is one of my favorites. I love RM's wordplay (when I can follow it), such as here, where "they have no backbone [spine]" gives us a mental image of a spineless book that's falling apart and a spineless author with no principles and no original thoughts. That's my take, anyway. And all that in just the first few lines of this rap!
Spineless people who go around whispering shite about things, people, situations but haven't the guts to stand up and own what they are spreading. Cowards who when challenged run away and hide behind other's rather than give reasons for what they are saying or doing.

Often the nuance is lost in English as I think it's a really one-dimensional language, at least the modern form of English. In German for example we have a word for nearly everything because you can stick together multiple words to form new words that have a completely different meaning, so called "compound words".
Different people translate it their way to try to make it understandable for non Korean speakers. But many try to manipulate translations and use them for their own agenda against ARMY and the public, like antis, solos and some parts of the media.
the translation in the beginning with bang pd used to be different it used to say " but the essence of hip hop is saying what you want to say, you must never forget that"
this new translation gives the sense of bang pd being mean to rm which solo stans use as a way to say bang pd isnt a good person to bts members idk why they changed it because though even if its more accurate the old way made more sense in english with the tone like you can understand bang pd was helping rm not being mean to him. thats one thing ive seen there be problems with when translators translate directly as possible the meaning and intention is sometimes lost and immature "fans" or even antis take that and try to make a scandal out of it to push the masses of army to hate on someone even the other members or bighit staff. are akgaes/solo stans are big problem in korea too cause i can only see the english speaking ones and i wonder if korean fans/general public who pay attention care about getting rid of solos like we do or if its not as much a issue. you should react to solos are antis by bora city mag to understand better what im talking about.

34:44 The Japanese albums are mainly a version of the Korean albums, but they do usually include maybe two or three new original Japanese songs. What I can remember from the top of my head are Let Go (probably my favorite), Crystal Snow, Don’t Leave Me, Wishing on A Star, Lights, Stay Gold, Your Eyes Tell, etc. They also have released Japanese versions of their Korean songs as singles in Japan. Like Airplane Pt.2 is a b-side, but it was released as a single in Japan with a music video.
Yes, they also have japan versions of songs like "No More Dream", "Boy in luv", "I need u", "Danger", "Dope", "Blood sweat and tears", etc

The performance where Jimin tore off his shirt is actually from a Korean awards show. I can't remember the details but it involved a dance battle with another band.
It was the 2014 MAMAs, and the band they were battling was Block.B (whose leader was Zico). I love watching it, and it's something I would recommend.💜

When I think about it all it's clear it's not 'Fans' that where trending all the controversy but those who didn't like Bangtan Sonyeondan. They were what's referred to a 'Hater's/anti fans' they one's trying to get rid of BTS. Fan's wouldn't be wanting to get rid of a member that's not what real fans do.

Well as a woman, War of Hormones is great; they were merely singing that their love interest was beautiful (all of her) I love this song.
We all know that War of hormone lyrics - even with a bad english translation - are not mysoginistic at all ! I am a woman, and I love this song a lot, it's a good pictures of young males (and females too ! ) But Antis always find something to threw at BTS face : a lyric, a hair color, a tee shirt, a photo... everything was (and still is ) a pretext to hate on them. It was not just individual haters, or some silly people, but orchestred campains coming from some Kpop fandoms united against BTS when they begin to grow in popularity and winning some compétition against their fav.. And for some destructive actions, big compagnies were invoolve too.... But BTS learn and grow and mature from each struggle and hardship, and look at them know ! Best group in the world, role models for millions of people, pride of their nation...I love them, as fan, but as a old lady, I respect these young and wise men a lot .
the japanese albums contain japanese versions of their korean hit songs but they also have brand new songs only in japanese. Film out and stay gold are two of them.
and they are really good, they tend to do ballades for japanese or softer songs like Lights. and they also have specific MV for those songs. BTS was the first korean band to sell 1 milion albums in japan in 2020 i think it was. and they kept talking about deep stuff in japanese i think people really resonated with them.

This song is so good, and I don't have a problem with it at all. This is a personal favorite title track by them. It is sad they don't perform it anymore...I think the worst translation, from my understanding, is, "us guys just do them". From my understanding there is a word that they used in Korean that is actually referring to mathematics so the translations for "do you" is off. It is more talking about how they are trying to figure out girls because girls are confusing. It has nothing sexual to it. The translations are not that good and make this song worse than it actually is, from my understanding...idk this song is so good and such a banger...
I personally think that for BTS there has always been double standards for them. From my knowledge at the time there were a lot worse songs than this but of course they had to criticize and bully BTS. I think Bighit decided to apologize because their company was small and before this BTS were getting a ton of hate, but this just escalated it, from my knowledge.
ARMY on twitter (especially Korean army) are very good at doing translations and pointing out things too. Also, there is a website that ARMY really like that is called doolset where they translate but also explain Korean references. ARMY is amazing.
Have you watched any BTS dkdkv explanation videos (for example for Ugh and Ddaeng)?? I would love to have someone break down War of Hormone better in a similar format or in a way that is easier for foreigners, like me to understand and how the translations for it were awful.
'Do them' I never saw it as something bad as I took it in context of the maths reference. eg girls to use are complicated, hard for us to understand just like math's problems so we have to 'work them out'solve maths questions like on a maths exam. Do the maths questions.

So about the "m-i-s-o-g-y-n-i-s-t" lyrics & the controversy...let me clear the misunderstandings for some people here, who might be new to BTS or k-pop..this was blown out of proportion by h@ters & Antis / other k-pop Fandoms to create drama that time, which worked cuz k-popies & media latched on it...
*This is going to long a$$ comment*
Let's be real, War of Hormones wasn't misogynistic. It was just an honest song about what guys in that age range go through. They were straight up saying that they struggle with their hormones when they see a pretty girl, *and guess what? That's just being honest.* 👁️👄👁️ The title itself gives a clear idea to how they see it. A war. An internal conflict. And it's true to what guys in their late teens and early 20s go through. Bangtan has always been about talking about their experiences and being a voice of people their age.
The entire album, Dark & Wild, was really just about the turmoils of young adulthood. In the title of the album too, you can already tell what the sentiment was going to be. The first 3 albums spoke about school and issues of teens. And then from there, the darker days of coming to terms with adulthood. And then the HYYH series. Everything was thematic with stories they wanted to tell as they go through life.
Antis and fans of other groups were just grasping at straws to find something to shit on and unfortunately the media picked up on it and then some ARMY took it as truth and they themselves started talking as if the song was offensive. It isn't. We need to stop spreading this story as if BTS were misogynistic boys who needed to learn a lesson. Yes, Namjoon has learned a lot from the experience and has gone out of his way to speak to experts in women's studies, but I'm sure that whole ordeal also caused him unnecessary pain.
*Now, My personal take on this:* I don't see anything wrong with the lyrics of the song. All boys go through puberty and the things BTS sung in this are just reflective of their experience going through that phase in their lives. This is the reason I love them and their songs.. they didn't hide anything and covered all the feelings/thoughts of a person who is in his/her adolescent...one can see them growing up from then till today…I personally don't find the lyrics offensive and “most” Armys as well..as I agree they are expressing the struggles of dealing with hormonal changes in adolescence, and I'm sorry but sexual attraction is the number one pressing issue in most hormonal teens regardless of gender. There's a couple of issues I take with people who found this offensive. First, the double standard. You can't tell me young women were purely innocent in their thoughts and feelings as they watched these young men dance and sing, they just didn't make a song about it, at least not publicly. Secondly, the entire concept BigHit wanted from BTS is a representation of the youth culture and the issues youth deal with as seen and heard through the lyrics and music of BTS, and of course everyone has or will experience sexual attraction. Yes, they refer to see through clothing and high heels etc, but I've seen hundreds of posts referring to JK's abs, Jimin's body rolls and shoulder "accidents" Tae's tongue...you get the idea, and while many comments aren't necessarily teens it's not a problem. There can only be an issue if the lyrics were implying that I'm only attracted to girls who wear heels and sheer clothing, not sneakers and sweats. Anyone who has experienced adolescence knows however that if they're sexually attracted to someone the person could easily walk around in a potato sack and an adolescent would still be entranced.
A lot of people were offended by that line, "Girls are equations and us men just do them". Personally, I took it as "do them" meant they were puzzles to be solved, not a sexual act. RM was honestly shocked that people were offended by the lyrics and that they could be considered misogynistic. It was definitely a learning experience for him. He apologized and has since run his lyrics through a few professionals in women's studies before releasing a new song. They don't really release songs like this any more. *But to that a korean Army said translation in English were a bit off, which lead to misunderstandings and explained it saying : “I was kinda surprised it's translation was "do" because that part "do them" CAN actually sound offensive to some people, because the meaning of that word 'do' is not clear. However I can clearly say that it's not meant that way, and Korean version lyrics tell that. Words are more specific, and not controversial in Korean version lyrics, because it doesn't say 'do. That part in Korean is 여자들은 방정식 우리 남자들은 해 which says we men are 해 is a word for mathematics, and it means the 'answer/the final number'. So it means they solve. the complex minds of the girls. 해 DOES have the meaning of 'do' too, but its not appropriate to translate this part of the lyrics that way, because if u say it means "do them, it doesn't fit the sentence there. Since there's no Objectives for that Verb 'do' and that's... kinda awkward. plus. the context and meaning of the whole sentence is talking abt mathematics and Equations so what u said is true. It doesn't mean sexual way”* it's freaking mistranslation, if you don't belive me ask any korean, not only k-army but any Korean.. like john said here! it was done to sabotage BTS's career..💀
BTS hv made few mistakes unknowingly early in their career and said things which can be considered offensive, as they were young but they hv re-educated themselves, apologized and never repeated the mistakes again..but I hv seen many k-popies and so called Multi Armys twisting many things because of that..take for example this song.. it's blown out of the proportion just to cause drama..and they were sadly successful in that..haters/antis tried every lil thing to bring BTS down & sabotage their career ngl..
*Now last but not the least* ..when this controversy happened, When joon apologized, The one thing that struck me about that was a part in the statement saying they took so long to apologize because they wanted to understand what exactly was the issue... And that part I definitely liked, I've never been a fan of blanket apologies.. BTS always try to understand the problem & try to improve..joon apologized because as the controversy was over "ppl were offended", he apologized for the ppl who were offended by this song, that doesn't mean the song was wrong, he was kind enough to take responsibility for it, ofc bighit & BTS took this issue (which was blown out of proportion) and apologized so that this unwanted drama surrounding the song would end (isn't that common sense) he sincerely apologised..but that doesn't mean that WOH is misogynist or objectifying women..like the title itself clears it out! "War of hormones" what ppl expected form this song to be like seriously?! Ppl who still want to believe that WOH is objectifying women are really dumb for me..like be practical..that's all i can say🤷🏻♀️

they only had 2 days of work because of the korean holliday. they have said that back then they didn´t have any breaks at all in two years and maybe they got 1 week of before going two more years. i think it was in the new bts book that just came out. i saw a twitter post about it. since i haven´t gotten mine yet. i think it´s so crazy that they could stay so full of energy and happy while going through all of that. BTS worked the hardest of any groups in kpop. not to shame anyone it´s just facts. even other groups have said it and industry people so it´s not the words of the fans.
From my knowledge about the Japanese albums: They will rewrite their songs from Korean to Japanese, but they usually will have 1-3 new songs that are originally Japanese on the album as well, at least this is my knowledge. (ARMY feel free to correct me)

Maybe this was edited out John for copyright issues...but I thought I remembered you discussing War of Hormones and also pointing out that at the time even the general public thought the backlash was overly harsh towards BTS and that there was another artist at the time who was being accused of actual misogynistic lyrics and it seemed as though BTS were being used as a scapegoat. I've been looking through the videos but can not longer find that portion of your discussion. Did I remember it wrong? I was coming back so I could remember the details.

I don’t think it’s true to say it wasn’t Army who disagreed with War of Hormone. To this day I see Army make posts about how they apologised and how much “work” they did to understand sexism blah blah. That has always felt forced to me. It was a very authentic and honest young guy’s perspective of girls. I personally can’t stand 21st century girl for this reason. I can FEEL the forced feminism in it.
actually korean Society is changing alot and is now the biggest consumer of luxury brands like gucci and luis vutton thats why they hire all these kpop stars for brand deals to get to the biggest market. so korean people is way more concerned about looks and is very judgmental and it´s kind of wrong to stand out and be unique. to blend in with the rest is the safest route you can take.
i heard all of this and more in a korean podcast, called Korean pizza club. they have both korean who has spend time in other countries to discuss the difference and i really enjoy their talks. they also made one for BTS festa. but just by watching kdrams you pick up all of these issues so it wasn´t really a surprise. but it´s really sad that young people need to study so hard because it´s not like they are smarter than other people who studies less in america for instance. they need to develop social skills too and ejoy life. my happies time was when i was a teen and i dont think it´s the case in korea and it´s sad. i hope they change
I do agree but good thing is that even Korean young people are starting to think that it is a bit gaudy to paste yourself with Luis Vuitton and Gucci kinda stuff. Like everything, all seems best in moderation. In my past reactions etc. I have covered the issue of Korean young people's lives. I have two children who exclusively grew up here in Korean educational system. It looked like hell to me. BTW it is not just young people. Koreans have ridiculous drive in work too. But there are light and darkness to everything. Like I have explained in the past, in order to bring one of the poorest country in the world to become a developed country in 50-60years, something had to be sacrifice. We have no natural resources so something had to give. And it was ourselves. Things are getting better but it is cultural and deep rooted.
