    May I asked why it is that reading (reciting) the vowels by the first grade Thai pupils, they are reading it in the following way ie.
    กอ-อึ-กึ
    กอ-อือ-กือ
    กอ-อุ-กุ
    กอ-อู-กู
    etc etc
    I understand that the first syllable กอ ko to read out the "k" syllable and the last syllable กึ ku when ึ is added to the ก consonant.
    Why reciting the pair of consonant+vowel the อ had to be spelled out also. Is that a default of spelling out the vowels?
    Thanks

    • @MthaiInter

      Assumed it's the same way as all languages do e.g. we can only make people to know that A is pronounced Ay not auh, B = Bee not buh, cuz we cannot teach small kids ก is gggg, but it's much easier to put a vowel sound aw for them to know what they are pronounced and make them different from the similar ones by having them the meanings e.g. ข.ไข่ = kaw.kai = egg, and ค.ควาย = kaw kwai = buffalo, ฆ.ระฆัง = kaw.rakang = bell not only kaw for all.

    Looks like Thai language has its origin from Sanskrit (संस्कृत) language (or the other way around). Please let me know.

    • @nokaton
      @nokaton 6 лет назад

      Only the script. Thai script was originated from ancient Khmer which was also derived from Pallava, the southern Indian script in 6th century AD. And yes, Pallava was from Brahmi script (on Ashoka pillar), which is the parent script of modern Devanagri also. And, you know, you can perfectly use Thai script to write Sanskrit with no flaw, just in the less fancy way than Devanagri.

    • @qwertyasdfg2219
      @qwertyasdfg2219 6 лет назад

      @@nokaton wrong thai was not from ancient khmer, but in fact king ramkumhæng copied from the old mon language and the old mon has its origin from sanskrit.

    • @nokaton
      @nokaton 6 лет назад +1

      @@qwertyasdfg2219 Do you really know how mon and khmer script look like, or how to write them? I bet if you really study on that, you will never say something like this, which is wrong on so many levels. And sorry, I spend my whole life studying on Mon, Khmer, Lanna, Ligtai, Thai, Lao, and various ancient script in this region because it is my home region. I will tell you one story. Lanna script is from ancient Mon script but Thai script is from old Khmer script. And you know what? Both 2 scripts crashed with each other in Lanna in 14th century. At the time Lanna had 2 scripts to write their language 1) the rounded shape Tai Tham which is similar to Burmese and Mon and 2) the rectangular shape Sukhothai script which similar to old Khmer script. Both scripts are in different shape and spelling system. This kind of thing would have never happened, if both Sukhothai and Tai Tham script were from the rouded Mon script. Because it makes no sense. And look at Mon script, it's rounded and has nothing similar to even the first version of Thai script in Sukhothai period.
      .
      1) Mon is not from Sanskrit. There is NO such thing as SANSKRIT SCRIPT. Sanskrit is the language that can be written by many scripts and one of the most popular (NOWADAYS) is Devanagari. I think you don't even know what are the differences between script and language. Mon is from proto-mon-khmer language group, but their script is derived from Pallava script of south India and Pallava is from the previous BRAHMI script also. Devanagri, too, is derived from BRAHMI script as well as Pallava. So what is your point first? Do you know that Both MON and KHMER scripts are from PALLAWA script? They even have the same origin, so what is your point?
      2) The fact that Thai scrip is from ancient Khmer script is not something controversial, but rather proved since early 20th century amongst Thai scholar. It's now in every text book and is taught even in primary school that Thai script was derived from old Khmer script or Khom script in Thai language. Why? Because it is the FACT! I bet you have never seen both Thai script at the Sukhothai period nor ancient mon script. One can say just only by looking a them that Sukhothai script, which is in a rectangular shape, is derived from old Khmer scirpt because they are so similar in shape. Whilst Mon script has a rounded shape and has nothing similar to even the Sukhothai script.

    • @qwertyasdfg2219

      @@nokaton your asumption is wrong because i'm a thai myself and i study here in thailand and in a thai school And i seen both thai script and khmer script like wtf. if you look at the sino-tibetan family tree branch you will see that thai,burmese is in the monic and you will not see khmer any where.
      And kingramkumhæng actually copied lanna alphabet which came from the old mon due to having close relationship
      And next if you look closely at the lanna alphabet you will start seeing circles(head of the alphabet) which is contained in almost every thai alphabet except the ก(gor)which king ramkamhæng adapt from.
      And when i was in primary school i was not taught that thai came from khmer i was only taught that there are khmer influence. the only khmer influence word in thai is in the royal speech which the king uses (due to in the sukhothai period which the used the thammasat governancing way which believe that the king is the son of the god and should not use the same language as proletarian uses) and just to make words more politer. I dont know where this from but its so damn incorrect.

    • @nokaton
      @nokaton 6 лет назад

      @@qwertyasdfg2219 haha seriously? Thai and Burmese and even Monic belong to Sino-tibetan language group. This is wrong on so many level. You can claim that Thai is in Sino-Tibetan according to some theory which is accepted only in China alone because of the political reason. But Mon belonging to Sino-tibetan is something so wrong, very very WRONG. Mon belong to MON-KHMER-VIETNAM language group, sometime called Mon-Khmer language family. Sorry, you don't even understand the DIFFERENCE between LANGUAGE and SCRIPT. I said Thai SCRIPT is derived from old Khmer SCRIPT not the LANGUAGE itself, for GOD'S SAKE!!!! And let me tell you something. The first record of Tai tham or Lanna script is dated back to the year 1370. It's 87 years after the first record of Sukhothai script made in year 1283. You can make your own fake theory about the origin of the script but YOU CAN'T DENY THE EVIDENCE! How can king Ramkhamhaeng copied Tai Tham Lanna script in year 1283 when the Lanna scrip had not even existed. Nobody who can read nor write Thai Tham script will never think that Tai Tham has a similar shape to Thai script (in any period). The shape, the stroke direction, even the line, not even close.
      .
      I bet you can't even read text written in Tai Tham script that you claim Thai Tham Lanna has a circle (in fact, a loop) at the head of each alphabet. The circle is, in fact, not a circle. And if some version of Lanna like in Lampang, that they put some circle on the script, that's because of stylistic reason. Because the loop thing is just to point the start of the line. I bet you have never seen the development of Thai Tham Lanna script since its origin. I am sure you have never read any publication, thesis etc. investigating the development of Thai Tham script. There is no circle or loop at the head of Sukhothai script, nor old mon script, nor with the first version of Tai Tham Lanna script. The loop appears only in the recent manuscript, as one variance of the style. Nobody cares if you add loop or not to Tai Tham script, because the original script has not loop, and the loop is not even similar in the position comparing to modern Thai script. When you want to compare the script, please compare it with the script in the SAME PERIOD. Dont compare it randomly with the script from different periods.
      .
      And you know what, Tai Tham Lanna script looks even similar to modern or old Khmer than modern Thai script. If you don't know, look at these Tai Tham alphabets comparing to modern Khmer: ᨡ ᨯ ᨱ ᨵ ᨶ ᨾ ᨿ ᩁ ᩃ ᩈ ᩉ and the spelling system is even similar, more similar than Thai. By your logic or false theory, I can even claim that Lanna script is derived from Khmer script.
      .
      And I bet you don't know these scripts neither: Fakkham, Thai Nithed, Thai Noi. Fakkham is the Lanna variation of Sukhothai script. Do you think that your story makes sense when Lanna invented it and King Ramkhamhaeng copied it and then Lanna copied Ramkamhaeng's script again. Seriously? Are you drunk?

    สอนนะครับ สระเอ "เ" มันต้องเขียนจากหัวก่อนนะครับ ไม่ใช่จากหางมันลงมา ฝรั่ง หรือคนที่เรียนก็จะจำไปผิด ๆ นะครับ

      ใช่ค่ะ ตามหลักการเขียนที่ถูกต้อง ไม่ว่าจะเป็นพยัญชนะหรือสระ ทุกอย่างเริ่มจากหัวค่ะ สระก็ต้องเริ่มจากหัวเหมือนกัน
      แต่ส่วนใหญ่ก็จะเขียนตามที่แต่ละคนถนัด หรือเขียนตามที่คนสอนถนัด

    Start learning Kawi script (old Javanese Sanskrit-based script) and it was fun.
    Then, I met Thai script, which is another abugidas, but with much more complexities than I ever encountered before.
    .
    .
    Quite challenging at the beginning.
