As Thai people, the secret that makes you easy to learn Thai Language is you don’t need to remember all alphabets in Thai. Because , there are many alphabets that not use in daily life. It’s just for show in text book only. If you get it, you’ll get the easy way to learn Thai Language. And importantly, you don’t need to remember all grammar in Thai , bc in daily life the word, sentence, or the conversation is very flexible. Only you can make and understand Thai words, I think you can communicate with other Thai people for sure. Finally, I think Thai languages grammar is very easy it’s just “Subject + Verb +Object” If you know how to make the word = you can understand Thai conversation. I hope it’s useful for people who want to learn Thai Language. Don’t give up and remember “Thai is very easy if you understand it’s concept” ❤
"ไมค์ใหม่ไหม้มั้ยไหม" if you write this sentence in English romanization, it is "Mai Mai Mai Mai Mai". And I can tell you every word here is pronounced totally different.

@@김지호-u7y Really? Nice. I used to learn French, Chinese and Japanese. At first I thought it should be easy, but then 😅 French was easier because the alphabets are similar to English.
@@김지호-u7y im thai & i used to learn kor & chinese (now im learning jpn) so as my consider kor is the easiest bcuz of alphabets but pronunciation is hard but not even as hard as chinese, for jpn the pronunciation is the easiest out of these three but if u learn more about jpn u'll know by urself that jpn is the hardest language more than kor & chin if u compared with grammars & kanjis alphabets (chinese characters but there r 2 ways to pronounce "kunyomi" & "onyomi" also the meaning of some characters arent the same at all) for basically conversation in jpn u should remember & know kanjis around 100+ more (but trust me it'd be better if u know 2000+) for chinese listening & writing are hardest but grammar is easiest out of jpn & kor which grammars r really similar with each others. So for me altho im thai but i think thai language is hardest as always bcuz the pronunciation, writing, listening, grammars (honestly nowadays when i had thai tested i cant get the full scores compare with kor chin jpn😢)

Speaking from personal experience, learning Hangeul alphabet is super easy and there's no complicated writing rules or tones in the languages. However, the grammar rules... I cannot say the same. Chinese's sentence structure is easy to understand but the tones might confuse people and the writing system not complicated but you just need to memorise a lot. Both Mandarin & Korean didn't scare me as much as Thai language now scares me even though I am interested in learning.
I've just started to be interested in Thai, and yes, it looks difficult. Phonetics is even harder than Korean and Chinese, and also they don't make spaces between words, almost like Japanese. Maybe Thai is easier than those three, when you reach a more advanced level, but the learning curve seems steep.

This is a GREAT refresher after many years of not keeping up with reading or speaking Thai much. I started learning Thai uhhh about 25 years ago and I learned the alphabet along with some basic words. My then-girlfriend and now wife of 23 years and is 2nd gen American of Thai extraction born in Texas. She grew up VERY self-conscious about speaking Thai and only speaks it if she has to. That’s a long story but some may understand. I am a bit of a language nerd so I just HAD to decode this beautiful language. I got a book and some tapes and off I went. My goal was to impress her mom and dad (the bar is much lower for me than my wife!). I tried to speak with a fluent (ish) native (ish) accent by imitating their prounciation amd shortcuts. Her parents and extended family loved that I was attempting to speak Thai and would help me. It helped me develop relationships with relatives who spoke almost no English. Most of her 1st gen fam speaks good English as they’ve lived and worked in the US since the 70s or 80s. Anyway I love languages and Thai writing is just so cool to me. It looks impenetrable at first but as you start to break it down it becomes easier. So thanks for these lessons - it’s slowly coming back!
I'm Korean and working in Sriracha Thai 10 years Thai language is interesting and naughty fun ผมรักเมืองไทยล่ะมาอยู่เมืองไทยหลายปีๆ~ งัดถั่งงัดถั่งงัดถั่งงัด~ เต่างอย~ เด๋อเดี่ยงด่าง~ 다 사람사는 대화더군요 ㅎㅎㅎ 555
Just for anyone who’s interested this video is only part of the reading Thai course on ThaiPod101. There’s still a lot more to know. And after many many hours of confusion and practice and cross-referencing with many sources as well as continuing to practice actually speaking Thai as well as other general content, this is actually now making a heck of a lot more sense than it once did. If you’re reading this and you’re really serious about getting literate in Thai, it can be done (not that I’m an expert yet).
for the learners, the Alphabets or writing may look hard. But Thai grammar is VERY VERY easy. There is no verb form, no singular or plural forms, no superative form, and so on. So don't give up if you just see this video.
Omg thank uuuu that helps I'm also learning Chinese, which has no alphabet hahaha so it's kinda hard to memorize the characters, but its grammar is very easy too so it's not that difficult for me
But grammar is the easiest part of learning any language... While complex phonetics will not only be hard to pronounce properly or understand what's being spoken. It also makes learning vocabulary much harder, from my experience with Chinese. And most of your time will be spent learning vocabulary anyway.
@@KnightOfEternity13 as a stupid language learners, I don't think grammar is easy. English Grammar is hard for me. Swedish Grammar is even harder for me. And Swedish is not ranked as hard language.
@@surasint Well, I agree, the difficulty can be subjective. I'm more an introvert and a visual learner, so tend to read a lot rather than speak. And maybe being a tech person makes it easier to "analyse" different sentence structures. I have been learning some languages which are considered to have a complex grammar and had not big problems, except of memorising many different forms, of course. From the other side, I always had a bad phonemic awareness and find that people with less experience in language somehow could grasp more from the spoken phrase than me. Honestly, I often fail to understand what a person speaks to me even in my own language. So Thai which combines Chinese tones and many difficult phonemes, seems like a hell language to me😀
@@surasint Also I think that grammar hardness is subjective as well. The more it's different from your own, the more difficult it seems. For example, Japanese has less verbs forms than Spanish, does it really mean it's grammar is easier? In fact languages with "simple" grammar like Chinese are often more hard, because they lack other "clues" which more "strict" languages have. When I see an Arabic verb, I can immediately understand that it's a verb, and it's in a plural form, so related to some subject and not another etc. When I see a Chinese word, I don't know how is it used in this context, is it even a verb or not
@@rexlapis3126 maybe you're used to Thai romance drama because you're native there but for the countries like us that doesn't have any LGBTQ+ dramas and movies, it's sort of refreshing and a genre that left us all in awe because we didn't expect that such theme will be aired on TV's and the morale of the Thai BL drama's like acceptance and respect can be found on it.
As someone who knows Bengali, Hindi & survival level Sanskrit, this was surprisingly easy! I cruised through this video without having to pause, while simultaneously jotting everything down. Some letters are similar to Sanskrit and Bengali. Although, the other alphabets are different, but the structure (?) of constructing words is very similar. I've always felt Thai language is very similar to Indian languages, particularly Hindi, Bengali and Tamil to some extent and this video affirms it. The script is very similar to bengali and they even share a lot of common and/or similar sounding words such as wife, husband, rose, thief, life, peace etc.

If you are even a bit off, the Thais will not even understand. it is a lot harder than this is made out to be by a long shot. Even if you can read, you HAVE to know the word in Thai to know the meaning the same as writing, so the learning order of speaking to reading is the issue depending on whether you want to learn the language OR REALLY learn the language. Either way, Thai is one of the hardest in the world-period. I can speak pretty darn good, write and read some too, but years of practice and being dedicated to it.
😂😂 The word with „ma“ (มา) could mean come, horse or dog but it’s another tone 😂 and you write it different. I always try to teach it my friends but they gave it up haha they said that they hear no difference

As a Thai person, our language is very...tricky. It's constantly evolving that sometimes even Thai people can't catch up. You can just one day wake up and then there is this new word/phrase used all over social media, you don't know where it came from but somehow you understand what it means even at first glance lol. Knowing how to read is one thing but understanding what you are hearing is a whole different level. But it's fun though. We do not use all of the 44 alphabets btw. 95% of Thai people can't even say all of them in the correct order without singing that ONE song we learnt in kindergarten (and many already forgot that song, including me.)
do you have any tips to keep up with Thai slang? I'm currently learning and after reading your comment, I realized that it's the same exact situation as the language I speak lolol
@@spi5892 unfortunately, I personally don’t have any in mind rn…It’s all just…experiences , but Thai media like tv series might help. The best solution is to find a native friend though imo. Thai text book are pretty useless and not so practical since 80% of those who write them are conservative and don’t really open up for modern or new slangs (even a middle schooler or high schooler on twitter who can only speak everyday English are even more helpful.) Most of our new slangs usually come from our friends in LGBTQA+ community, they really are good with words to express mostly every thing, every time on every occasion. They are GOATs when it comes to inventing, evolving and shaping Thai people’s modern language lmao. I swear to god, this language can freakin twerk. The single word like ‘คะ?’ (Ka/Kha-I’m not sure what’s the one you learn but girls will end the sentence with this word to make the sentence sounds formal) can be interpreted either: 1. Beg your pardon? (means something like ‘I might heard it wrong/I didn’t hear what you just said so could you repeat it again?) 2. tf do you want? Wanna pick a fight? 3. Come again? What is this bs you just told me? 4. I dare you to fcking say that to my face again. (But this case maybe just the same as ‘what’ lmao.) Or ‘เก็บเงินแต่งหญิง’ can be either ‘save money to marry a woman’ or ‘save money to cross dress as a woman.’ And I think our newest favorite phrase rn is ‘สู้ชีวิตแต่ชีวิตสู้กลับ’ (roughly, ‘I fight my obstacles but the obstacles fights me back’) lmao. But to answer your question again: find Thai friend on that cursed bird app, it’s the fastest and most efficient way. (Sorry for not being really helpful but it is really the most effective way since we are constantly learning too y-y)
The last two tones sound similar... This will be a fun journey. I can see myself talking about the weather but using the wrong tone and end up in jail for a confession of second-degree murder.
Listen a lot like a lot...watch movies with subs and pay attention...after a while you will notice the different tones. That's how I improved my chinese (HSK4)..though my speaking skill isn't that good...but, that is because I haven't practiced a lot.

I'm Thai, I have a secret to read Thai to tell you. when i was in kindergarten I had to study like in this video to be able to read Thai. I admit that just a year later. I remember very little of these things. But can still read Thai as usual. what happened ? Yes...I didn't use the way to read like in this video. Because I can roughly remember But I read by memorizing the letters. similar to how to read in Chinese I don't care if the letters are mid-tones. low letter high pitched letter , or the tone of the word. But I read it by visual memory. seen over and over again In addition, I always hear those words from everyday speech. It made me more accurately guess the pronunciation of the words. But the difference between Thai language and Chinese language is If any Thai word can't be read We can use the same principles we learned in kindergarten to guess sounds. which in chinese The letters show the meaning but don't show the reading sound. summarize Don't be too strict with your methods. In practice, it's easier than you think. like driving training. Reading textbooks and driving on the real road very different.
That's what an every native speaker does. I don't try to guess English pronunciation from letters too, but read it by memory. But the thing is it's very difficult for a beginner, because they don't have such a big spoken experience as natives do. That's why we have to learn all these rules, just to get accustomed to the language gradually.
This is definitely an exaggeration 😂 It takes native Thai children about 2-3 YEARS just to speak the basics of Thai. Unless you know Lao, I doubt you’re telling the truth.
I watched the episodes of Sotous and I love Singto so much! He made me curious about Thai, which I found so difficult after watching this for two minutes.
I remember being to Thai in 2018 12, and It was a beautiful place. People were so polite, weather was humid yet beautiful, I loved Thai massages with aroma, the hotel and restaurants I've been to was so good. I loved loved loved the food! The streets were just beautiful, I remember all the plants on the streets. Most impressing was the golden palace (ok sorry maybe it was a temple). I realized how much of a beautiful country and culture was hidden in southern asia; Thailand. Especially remebering how the people were so friendly and polite. I really hope to go there again.
@@karolmonsalve2975 its really not, i admit that sound variation and alphabets in thai may be confusing, but on the bright side you barely have to worry about the grammar since it is very similar to english.
With all the lakorns I've been watching, I thought learning Thai would be fun. But then, she says there are 44 consonants, 32 vowels, and 5 tones. I give up already.
Some of them are not actively in use nowadays though. They are omitted (casted out) from contemporary Thai and only be used in very rare special occasions. A lot of remaining consonants pronounce exactly the same 'cause even Thai people don't bother to distinguish those subtle pronunciation. So it has been heavily reduced. And for the tones, we still mess it up all the time. Figuring out the correct words across dialects is part of the fun and frustration when communicating in Thai (new born internet dialects included). It goes the same for short and long vowels, if you produce enough of the correct words, they can guess the rest.
im thai and i tell u this Forget ฃ and ฅ If u are not interested in learning it seriously or u just want to be able to communicate, forget it Dont mess ต and ฅ up though they produce different sounds
Thats nothing my friend.. Japanese has 3 scripts including kanji which is like 3000 characters just to be fluent. Then theres chinese which is also tonal and then has like 5000 characters to be fluent. Even korean is difficult when you start learning hanja to build vocabulary and distinguish homophones. Thai isnt that hard. For me its just pronunciation. Korean pronunciation is easiest. Japanese, chinese, thai, ect much much harder

French was easier because the alphabets are similar to English.

I feel the same 😅 I mean Chinese and Korean

Thai people are very friendly! I have been there once and I really love their attitude towards life.

Omg thank uuuu that helps
I'm also learning Chinese, which has no alphabet hahaha so it's kinda hard to memorize the characters, but its grammar is very easy too so it's not that difficult for me
But grammar is the easiest part of learning any language...

I think the main trouble I'll have is with figuring out the different tones since none of the languages I know (including Japanese, Korean & Spanish) are tonal languages. Thai will be the first tonal language I learn so I'm quite excited!

Watching all the BL's was very helpful...Nov 2019 one month there, many complements for my Thai. Next step is this, the Thai alphabet.
I've always felt Thai language is very similar to Indian languages, particularly Hindi, Bengali and Tamil to some extent and this video affirms it. The script is very similar to bengali and they even share a lot of common and/or similar sounding words such as wife, husband, rose, thief, life, peace etc.
Because the word in Thai language is taken from the sanskrit language from india and make it to be ours version that what we call Thai sanskrit.
And even female traditional dress looks like sari😀
Also the word "anger" Kroth
Some Thai alphabets are as same as Bengali and Hindi alphabets.
2:37 "ม" [m] this letter has come from Hindi language's "म" and Bengali language's "ম" and they are pronounced as "m".
Look at their similarity
ম >> म >> ม [thai just didn't give roof in that letter 😅😅, but art is same]
Same art, same pronunciation
5:08 "า" [a] this letter has come from Hindi language's "ा" and Bengali language's "া" and they are pronounced as "a".
Similarity: ा >> া >> า
Same art, Same Pronunciation
Another Similarity is, "า" is called "เอาะ" [Sara-ah], which is as similar as "স্বরে-আ" [Sore-ah] in Bengali. In Bengali, "া" is called "স্বরে-আ" [Sore-ah].
8:41 "ง" [ng] this letter has come from Bengali language's "ঙ" [ng]
Similarity: ঙ >> ง
Same art, Same Pronunciation
9:19 "ย" [ya] this letter has come from Hindi language's "य" and Bengali language's "য়" and they are pronounced as "y".
Similarity: य >> য় >> ย [Thai didn't give roof on it]
Same art, Same Pronunciation
22:46 "ะ" is as same as Bengali's "ঃ" (Visharga)
29:15 " ุ" [u] this sign is as similar as Bengali's "ু" [u]
Same Art, Same Pronunciation
41:29 "เ" [e] this sign is as similar as Bengali's "ে". Two sign is written left side of letters
45:01 "ล" [L] is come from Bengali's "৯".
In Medieval Bengali, "৯" is pronounced as "Li", and same as thai language.
Similarity: ৯ >> ล
Same art, Same pronunciation.
But Today, "৯" is called as number "9".
Ultimately, Thai is as same as Bengali and Hindi, because two language came from Sanskrit.
Very similar to Sinhala Sri Lankan.

Thai text book are pretty useless and not so practical since 80% of those who write them are conservative and don’t really open up for modern or new slangs (even a middle schooler or high schooler on twitter who can only speak everyday English are even more helpful.)
Most of our new slangs usually come from our friends in LGBTQA+ community, they really are good with words to express mostly every thing, every time on every occasion. They are GOATs when it comes to inventing, evolving and shaping Thai people’s modern language lmao.
I swear to god, this language can freakin twerk. The single word like ‘คะ?’ (Ka/Kha-I’m not sure what’s the one you learn but girls will end the sentence with this word to make the sentence sounds formal) can be interpreted either:
1. Beg your pardon? (means something like ‘I might heard it wrong/I didn’t hear what you just said so could you repeat it again?)
2. tf do you want? Wanna pick a fight?
3. Come again? What is this bs you just told me?
4. I dare you to fcking say that to my face again.
(But this case maybe just the same as ‘what’ lmao.)
Or ‘เก็บเงินแต่งหญิง’ can be either ‘save money to marry a woman’ or ‘save money to cross dress as a woman.’ And I think our newest favorite phrase rn is ‘สู้ชีวิตแต่ชีวิตสู้กลับ’ (roughly, ‘I fight my obstacles but the obstacles fights me back’) lmao.
But to answer your question again: find Thai friend on that cursed bird app, it’s the fastest and most efficient way. (Sorry for not being really helpful but it is really the most effective way since we are constantly learning too y-y)
Really 😲
Is it the same for the Thai elite? Or they speak nicely the language from a better education?
@@madhurajput5306Thai media actually helps.

Because I can roughly remember
But I read by memorizing the letters. similar to how to read in Chinese
I don't care if the letters are mid-tones. low letter high pitched letter , or the tone of the word.
But I read it by visual memory. seen over and over again
In addition, I always hear those words from everyday speech.
It made me more accurately guess the pronunciation of the words.
But the difference between Thai language and Chinese language is
If any Thai word can't be read We can use the same principles we learned in kindergarten to guess sounds.
which in chinese The letters show the meaning but don't show the reading sound.
summarize
Don't be too strict with your methods.
I remember myself 3 months ago watching this, I found it difficult but now I'm back I can read, write and speak thai
Yo In just 3 months your amazing 🤩

The streets were just beautiful, I remember all the plants on the streets. Most impressing was the golden palace (ok sorry maybe it was a temple). I realized how much of a beautiful country and culture was hidden in southern asia; Thailand. Especially remebering how the people were so friendly and polite. I really hope to go there again.

Same. I'm interested in learning thai but it's complicated
Kelly Clarke 😄
im thai and i tell u this Forget ฃ and ฅ
If u are not interested in learning it seriously or u just want to be able to communicate, forget it
Dont mess ต and ฅ up though they produce different sounds
Domt worry cause some alphabets sound the same
Thats nothing my friend..
Thai is pretty easy when u speak vietnamese, it's even more easy, just the letters are to learn but with such a great teacher I think it will be a fun challenge, thank you for your work. And you are a real pleasure for my eyes.
