I didn’t finish setting up there subscription. You don’t have to unless you plan to play your Xbox or PlayStation games. I just downloaded the app and skipped the sign up by just closing the app out and went straight to game play. No monthly charge no subscription.

And you cannot access the app itself unless you activate the free subscription. It just has games that you can purchase from other streaming services or the App Store or google store (depending on which phone you have) Based on my experience, yes you do have to pay to be able to play your PlayStation games on your phone via the app. The app is just a hub to link all other consoles available and be able to play games usually equipped for only consoles or pc to be playable on your phone. The yearly subscription is for you to be able to play your console games on your phone. Other than that you can use the backbone free of charge to play on mobile games that support controllers. Like Call of duty mobile, Genshin etc. The way it works is you open a mobile game that supports controllers and you just pop the backbone on. You don’t have to open the app to use the backbone, you can just exit the app and go open a game you want to play. I believe that’s what the user above meant by going “straight to game play”

For some reason, whenever I go to plug the controller port into my phone, the little light around the backbone symbol doesn't light up. No you don't need to have the console. There are certain games which are exclusive to the backbone itself. However if you wanted to use the backbone as an additional controller or do "remote play" then yes you would need the console for that as your backbone would need to feed off the wi-fi and be connected to your console for that.

The Tech is good but the design of the controller, I find all games unplayable and when I am finally on there’s nothing but crashes and glitches. I gave up with it time to sell it.

Try removing your phone case. It might be the cause as to why it isn’t fitting!
