This is genuinely one of the best and most informative videos about rotations I've seen. Especially the thesis of understanding > learning is what always helped me the most. I don't want to simply learn things by heart and then be thrown off by mechanics and phases and getting lost in my rotation. There is a reasoning behind what skills we use and rhythm within. Just showing a benchmark rotation and letting people figure it out by themselves is of no use at all... it just builds up some pressure to compete with these numbers. I'd really love to see more videos like this. Thanks a lot!
As someone who hasnt bought janthir wilds i looked far and wide for a good explanation of power virt with GS. Thanks a lot for this video you created 2 YEARS ago. Understanding the reasons behind the rotation makes way more sense than just learning the order out right.
Agree with other comments, your guide is awesome. You make it so easy to follow and understand. In fact, I made a mesmer just to try this build because of your video and I have never played a mesmer before.
Good explanation! ^^ I usually use LI builds, because I have sensory processing issues that regularly lead to bad migraines. Mechanics I can handle, and I've lead raids, but rotations? That seems to more often than not cause problems. Lately I've been wanting to challenge myself by easing into a higher intensity build for the days when I have a bit of leeway, but memorising a sequence has been a bit of a nightmare. Your video has helped me actually know *why* to use each skill in a specific order, and that genuinely helps a whole lot - thank you! ^^ I'm practicing this one now, and it's coming a lot easier with this context
Glad to hear that! Just bear in mind the build is a bit outdated by now... but I'm sure if you can understand this one, you will have no problem adapting to the new build as well. Good luck out there o/
This is awesome. It's really annoying to try out a new build without understanding it. Seeing a rotation on snowcrows and being able to reproduce it on a golem is not the same as then being able to adjust it when in a real fight... Which is why understanding it is so crucial. Your video was great because it made me understand virtuoso better (even though I play condi only at the moment). So I can feel OK if my rotation is screwed up because I now know how to fix it / what to prioritise if I need to spend time with mechanics.
Like many others have said, I believe this is the best guide for understanding power virtuoso. I think this guide even applies to Power Chrono builds as both share the same weapons. I started playing Mesmer because of you. Seriously, good work!
Glad to be of service! Fun fact, this video was originally meant to be a chrono guide. I just changed it at the last moment when they gutted chrono for no apparent reason (and changed weapons since old chrono used sw+sw/sw+fc).
Again, I come across a channel with an excellent video on a class I am struggling to make work and I see that the sub count is quite low. Why, RUclips? Don't hide the good stuff from us! :D
I learn so much better with a set of rules to follow just like in this video! That's how I was taught power DD and it makes it 10000000x easier to understand priorities, skill order and timings. Amazing guide! 😊
I wish there was a guide like this for every profession/specialization! Every guide tells you what to do but so rare to find guides that tell you why to do that / what are the crucial bits of your rotation where poor execution will cost you a lot of DPS and what are the segments where a mistake is no big deal.
This is my first guide of this kind. I HAVE made guides previously, but they were very different (more focused on jokes, less on concise information). Still, glad you enjoyed ^^
How do you start the rotation @7:07 with that whole row of yellow conditions? When getting killed in WvW, I also see most people have 15+ positive conditions on them, I wonder!?.. And for me it looks like the Phantasm skill of the handgun is way more valuable than the sword phantasm, also the second ability of handgun seems to have more value than sword!? Handgun phantasm is also on 4th slot so you actually only need to remember 4,2,3.. furthermore, handgun also deals conditions like cripple, confusion, stun, daze ect.. So sword meh.. I also strongly believe that utility blink or signet of midnight for example, provide more value than mantra and feels more versatile - no animation on mantra sounds nice, but feel negligible..
Does anyone know if this is still good for dps, just started 3 weeks ago and changed from necro to this just wanted to know if the current patch has made this flop.
Sorry for replying so late, didn't get the notification. I don't think I'm going to make a guide on the sword/focus variant. It's a straight dps downgrade compared to greatsword variant and has you alternating between melee and ranged which I find mildly annoying to play with. If it becomes the dominant dps variant, then maybe.
@@eerolz8758 I suppose he talks about the SW/F & D/SW variant which deals 3k ~ less dps on average. You can go this build, swap sword for focus and still deal more than that. Since Fc5 has higher cd than Sw5, you wouldn't be able to fit 2 Fc5s into each sword cycle. As such, you would just leave out the second Fc5 cast. 523-2-523 becomes 523-2- 23 Lower damage, but you get pull which is simply indispensable on bosses like Sloth or Samarog.
Yeah was assuming replacing the greatsword with sword+focus, but thanks for this ^^, can consider that for when focus pulls are needed and learn the GS rotation for other times.
@@kiminek9872 Turns out I didnt get the notification at all! Yep, I was asking for s/f & d/s variant. Pulls are asked desperatly on bosses like qadim that's why I was wondering so. But just not using foc5 on dagger loop makes more sense as well, tyvm ^^
Torch/Pistol provide virtually nothing to you as a power dps (they are condi weapons). Sword = Higher dps. Focus = Access to pull (focus 4). If you are choosing which ascended to go first, go sword. It's always good. Focus is situationally better on bosses where pull is needed.
@@kiminek9872 ah i see... i have all leggys so i can swap anytime. I was think about mechanic + cc.... i think is better keep sword (double 4) and just F3 por cc, and swap all skills for mesmer pack to do the skips and then swap back.
@@wishfallen I see... still, I don't think getting a bit of CC justifies losing s5. You can get Mantra of Distraction/Signet of Humility for less of a dps loss and more cc. The only time I'd get focus > sword would be if the encounter specifically needed a pull (foc4 is probably the best pull in the game). As for torch, I can't think of a place where I'd use it.
My opinion is a build with mostly sinister gear with bleeds +97% duration dagger/pistol and dagger/focus. Blade Crits cause bleeds and stacks of bleeds stock blades. You will get up to 35k dps if you have good rotation and right skills slotted
If you enjoy Mirage, but wanna be ranged, you could take a look into Staff mirage. You trade a bit of damage for becoming ranged, but you do get to keep Mirage's niche of dealing confusion damage. It's also a bit easier to play.
Nvm I see you put of the dps meter. This is pretty good dps for purely power build. I think sinister build does more dps overall though with 97% bleed duration. I think it does somewhere around 35k dps
What an amazing video! It is the first time I truly understand a rotation/build before playing it for a while.
Keep up the good work dude!
Thank you ^^

thank you for the detailed but simple guide, it is one year later but the rotation is still basically the same. Looking forward to more gw2 guide.

Easily one of the best build and rotation guides I've ever seen. So informative but simple and structured well. Thank you so much.
Only thing I would add is a small recap after the opener, but still, thanks!

Ty for the video
thank you for actually taking the time to explain *how* everything works together.
Great guide and I love that you did it for exactly the profession that I want to play when I get to that point :D
Thank you so so much for this guide :)

thank you so much for this video, it explains a lot!
Super nice Work! Very good explanation and editing. Gonna try Power virtuoso :)
You were able to teach me a rotation of a class i just started to play in under 8 minutes. I'm really impressed. Awesome video!

this is the best rotation explanation videos I have seen. really helpful. you sir are a life saver!
This was very helpful. Thank you
this was a wonderful video, was completely lost on this and feel a lot more confident on the build now, thanks!
Welp this was awsome! Subbed for sure❤
thanks for the good work
that was very informative guide, thanks for that
What to use instead of mantra since it seems really bad right now? I use some utility stunbreak like blink.
Awesome guide!
Perfect explanation
Good work, nice vid. Ask Anet for any money, cuz vids like this, shuld by share from them. Thank you for you work.
Thanks man it really helped a lot
Very easy to understand guide! Fun to watch and finally I understand where are some missing numbers in my rotation :)
How much of a difference would sword/sword be from dagger/sword? Would the rotation be basically the same, or would that not work out?
GREAT! please make more of these videos!

in the Special Forces Training Area you can set all boons to yourself on the panels/npcs

Does this damage apply to exotic gears? What dps should I be expecting?
Liked, subbed, here's also the comment :D
Great guide that helps put eberything I to place. Hoping for more in the future!
Thx for this awesome guide , now one for chrono pls :D
