13+ years ago I got into biomechanics. My obsession began as a trainer and peaked when I got my doctorate. I thought that this knowledge would help me get rid of chronic pain.
I started with Shirley Sahrmann, Diane Lee, and Florence Kendall. Then the Journal of S&C Research and more time than I'd like to admit on T Nation.
Then I found the Postural Restoration Institute. It seemed to summarize much of what I'd read and added certainty that put me at ease. I thought it was "the answer."
One thing PRI said is that the pelvis "orients to the right." This observation is undeniable. Watch people move and you'll see it a lot.
Clinicians use this to justify exercise selection. They say we are "stuck" in the right side and need the right glute to "push us out" of it. They also say we need to open up the left glute to "move into" the left side.
For many people, this works. Others, not so much.
When I first used PRI, everyone with left AIC testing got the same exercises. Right glute concentric and left glute eccentric exercises.
But over time, I noticed that not everyone fit this pattern. These exercises didn't work for everyone. I was then exposed to Bill Hartman's right oblique axis.
The result is a pelvis that may or may not be facing right. And sometimes this means the right glutes are already concentric relative to the left. I realized how much I didn't know.
Now with repetition, you can notice these different patterns. Whether it's with testing or the eye test.
But regardless, you need appropriate progressive training. And most of the time, these patterns work themselves out.
    Don’t be afraid to train.

Very informative! I have a left side lateral pelvic tilt so I did the opposite side. I really felt my muscles engage on the right side. Exercises aligned the hips and pelvis. My problem for the last 21 years has been my psoas tightening and causing my left hip to hike up. It also causes tightness in the abdomen, hamstrings, and calves.

I have proprioception loss in my right stomach all the way down to my right toes. If i sit or stand and do an activity where I'm not absolutely focused on balance my body goes all crooked from ribs to hips. Do you have any advice on things I could buy, use, and/or do to maintain balance while i do things like program at the pc?

Usually the pelvis is oriented right and turned back to the left... See pelvis twisted left video for this case
