The tactics of lineinfantry were actually superior against uncoordinated attacks, during that time it was possible to keep constant gun fire at the enemy, with enough men ofc.
@@tommykirk3403 Britian was too extended, if we bunched up tight it would be alot harder, also ammo boxes were too well sealed meaning ammo was slow to be delivered. Against spears we could of formed up tight more napolnic formations and sqaure etc with men digging in, and going tighter it would of been alot closer.
@Erich von Donitz No, the jsdf were defending themselves, the first few episodes of the anime were literally the empire either massacring civilians, or launching all out attacks on the jsdf who were merely trying to make good relations with the empire. And the entire first season had multiple scenes that proved the jsdf weren't monsters, since they took in refugees, and built a whole village for people to reside in. And in the final few episodes were zorzal declaring war on Japan, and the jsdf responded to the declaration by saving princess pina and the king (I forgot his name).
We could fit a lot considering how small a nuke is today. But i doubt the jsdf would need one and im pretty sure Japan doesnt even have nuclear weapons.

What I like about GATE was that the modern Japanese did the modern war thing, demolish the military, but treat the civilians nicely, even going so far as to provide relief and aid. And the civilians in the fantasy world are like "Hey, this _way_ better than being raped and pillaged!"
*Spoilers:* In the later parts of the novel and manga Zorzal's Pro-War regime launched a massive scorched earth campaign in every village in their domain where they killed the men and children mercilessly, raped the women and burned the settlements, the JSDF quickly took action helping the victims but they are stalled by guerilla offensive made by Zorzal's man-child general Herm Fule Maio, regardless the JSDF eventually destroyed all the guerilla bases and launched a grand and enormous blitzkrieg assault with Pina and the Pro-Peace backing them up, easily destroying the all but one Pro-War defense perimeter in a single, day, what's funny is the Pro-War who did survived the assault and run away are dumbfounded because they can't understand why the civilians who they victimize always chase them and later hacked them to pieces as revenge.

You know, this anime had a chance of being great. But like so many fantasy vs modern shows, it was laughably one sided. They never did much interesting with the magic system sadly

Nice an anime of the JSDF fighting enemies that are in the medieval times with random Knight girls and monsters that can still be stopped by a few bullets, or a single F-4 with the cliche silencers make the weapons almost silent even though they only reduce the sound significantly but not that much when a song sings about the British Empire in South Africa fighting the Zulus.

Not only would you have to deal with a few million civs that have firearms but also the police department that could possible have ex-military if it's a large city even if they past that they would most likely be stopped either by the national guard or a local military base.

For a quick reminder, they also have actual gods and demigods which is literally immortal. But honestly i really enjoyed GATE's manga and anime (manga is a tad bit better though)

it's also kinda unexplained but there are hints here and there, like how gods extinguish or block things they found more "advanced" or "potentially" dangerous to world and JSDF barely not breaching that line. It's a developing story maybe we can learn more in future.

You know, this anime had a chance of being great. But like so many fantasy vs modern shows, it was laughably one sided. They never did much interesting with the magic system sadly
in truth, the light novels presents in a very few occasions a bit more balanced situation, but you're right, most of time the JSDF simply owerwhelm the Empire's army.

Nice an anime of the JSDF fighting enemies that are in the medieval times with random Knight girls and monsters that can still be stopped by a few bullets, or a single F-4 with the cliche silencers make the weapons almost silent even though they only reduce the sound significantly but not that much when a song sings about the British Empire in South Africa fighting the Zulus.
