- In 1982--83, the final season of Bob Paisley's management before he retired to make way for Joe Fagan, Liverpool were champions once again with Everton finishing mid-table, and the most notable of the two derbies occurred in early November when Liverpool triumphed 5--0 at Goodison Park.
Ian Rush terrorized the Merseyside rivals with four goals and remains to this day the only Liverpool player to have scored a hat-trick at Goodison Park. Mark Lawrenson added the other.

As an Aussie I get a thrill seeing Craig Johnston in these great old clips. He wasn't the best player to ever wear the jersey but he was good enough to play in one of the greatest teams in football history. An 'everyman' footballer who got to experience what most can only dream of.
He was a fantastic player was skippy

2nd best centre-half to Bobby Moore. How Alan did not be the regular centre-half in the Scottish national side still baffles many.

Even when Everton were at their best in the mid 80’s to mid to late 90’s I can’t remember them ever dominating in one on one games with Liverpool. Two FA cup final wins on top seals it for me. Even when they were the best team in the country they were still the second best team on Merseyside.
This Liverpool team was more clinical but the late eighties team had more flair

@@Wally-H Hansen had a reputation like Moses, parting the sea, when he strode forward over that half way line and split the opposing midfield. He was an idol of mine growing up...

I grew up in the 80s and loved how Liverpool were the dominant force. Scoring goals for fun. It's taken some time but Liverpool are looking very dominant again. Currently top of the league (19/3/2019). We need to win that league again.

yeah, but to be fair, this was his first competitive game in six months. He wasn't match fit and had only been on loan at Everton for about two weeks. Remember also, after this game Southall got farmed out on-loan to Port Vale
@@KebabMusicLtd He was probably unlucky given the rules of the day. Given players could kick lumps out of each other and not get booked, a red for something like was probably considered harsh.
Glenn Keeley's sending off was quite harsh considering that he got away with far more meatier tackles in the second division wuth Rovers.

Losing a derby game is bad enough, but to do so in your own "backyard", and by a margin such as 0-5, is indeed a bitter pill to swallow. Pity those Evertonians who had school or workmates who followed their close rivals! Liverpool were pretty awesome this day, and could easily have doubled their goal tally, even if Everton hadn't been reduced to ten men. And what can you say about Ian Rush? A "goal machine" in the truest sense
Can’t even imagine this side losing against the likes of ath Madrid, Chelsea, Watford, what quality players we had in this era , composure and flair

I am an Evertonian but I have to admit we got off lightly that day. Make no bones about it but if they had got double figures then it probably would have been a more accurate reflection of the match. I hate to say it.
