@Brian Glover both the colonists and the confederates seceded because they wanted to govern themselves and be left alone. Both subsequently defended their homes from foreign invaders. Both fought against armies who were trying to force them back under a ruler at gunpoint. The only difference is, one was successful and the other was not. When you lay both side by side, there really isn't much difference.

The contrast of 1770's fashion (clean-shaven men era) & 1860's fashion (bearded men era) is certainly turned heads. It's like a regiment which issued a civil war uniform during WW2
A great curiosity is that both the Confederates and the Unionists saw the Revolutionary Patriots of the Colonies as their Ancestors and while the Unionists wanted to continue with the union maintaining the legacy of the founding fathers, on the other hand the Confederates wanted their second independence and continue with the most original and established laws of the former colonies

Southerners wore the Revolutionary War uniform because they shared the same principles with the soldiers of the Revolution. The American Revolution and the Civil War are both similar. They are both wars of liberty and self-government. They are both wars of secession, states rights, and freedom from a tyrants rule. The southerners were preserving the values and principles of self government that their colonial grandfathers founded. The southern secession was not the destruction of democracy, rather the preservation of it. The southerners were fighting the same fight that their fathers had suffered and bled for a century before. God bless America. And may God defend the right.

I personally always found the 18th century Tricorn hat uniforms seen in the seven years war and revolutionary war (The Patriot lol) way cooler than the uniforms that were eventually adopted by most European nations prior to the Napoleonic wars.
I agree, shakos are kinda ugly. The French look was prime on the early 1st Empire from 1804 to 1807 when line infantry wore bicorns. After those years pretty much all of the armies wore shakos.
The north did not have units that wore kilts. There was one unit that did while marching to the first bull run but they were forced to abandon the kilts and don regular uniforms prior to the battle.

Good idea, indeed.
@@Briselance thanks man.
@@pyry1948 I agree
The north did not have units that wore kilts. There was one unit that did while marching to the first bull run but they were forced to abandon the kilts and don regular uniforms prior to the battle.
The song that is played by fife and drums in the backround is called, "The roast beef of old England" In case anybody was wondering.
CSA soldiers were marching without boots, unlike USA soldiers.
Imagine walking up to the battleground with your regiment, drummer boys and pipers blasting away with their instruments, and you see a rebel unit also walking up like they want to counter-siege Boston under General Israel Putnam
