The heat, humidy, the drenching rain and the thunderstorms, yep, Mart, we've been experiencing this in Sydney, too. The cold? No. Not here. Sometimes comfortably cool, but the those times are fairly rare. You right re things getting better - they will. All the best, son.

Start with everything and harvest what makes it. Try to always have roots in the soil. Living ground cover ( perslain) it is also very nutritious in salads or raw, it only has one taproot and doesn't set roots off branches, it grows and spreads fast, it is succulent like, and is very controllable and has a cooling effect due to it being naturally full of moisture and it's delicious as well. Happy hot gardening everyone.

Marty in trying times like these , I’m in central west NSW and we cop it all as well ,it’s wasn’t long ago we copped the biggest mice plague going and destroying farmers crops and every house hold garden and even eating the wires out of motor cars and machinery , now it’s weather going barmy , I wonder about maybe investing in a green house or two for small garden beds and potted veggies could be a saver from the scorching outdoors heat as we been getting here to , I just finished watering 10:00 pm at night they were wilted badly so they should hopefully pick up by morning , I have decide on greenhouses maybe worth a shot , good luck .👍

I'm down South in S.A. myself, and I've had a bit of a mixed bag here this year with my tiny vege garden that I grow in a few pots, and some little raised plastic beds on legs I got from Bunnings. I only have a wee little courtyard at my place so its the best I can do. my tomatoes have been my biggest disappointment, they all started off really well and grew quickly, and looked like I was going to get really good crops. unfortunately after they had produced a few tomatoes, they have started wilting and yellowing, and I dont know why. my Sister and Brother in law have a couple acres in the country, and so have a beautiful vege patch, and they've had the same issue. yet my brother and his wife only live 5 minutes from where I do and their tomatoes have been going gangbusters...so go figure. most of my other veges have been doing ok, and my dwarf citrus trees that I grow in large pots have been doing well..my native finger lime, which is only just over a metre tall and not quite 3 years old has an amazing crop this year, so I'm happy with that. my mini nectarine tree which is only about 80cm tall so far produced a beautiful crop of the best tasting nectarines I've ever eaten. my strawberries have been a bit meh this season, though what I have got have been nice. my Rhubarb is the best its even been, cant keep up with it. Blueberries, while small were really nice with an excellent crop. chiles ( Tabasco, Joes Long Cayenne and normal Cayenne, and Firecracker ) are doing well. Chamomile was the best I've ever had. Turmeric doing well. blackberries good too. Ginger not so good. Parsley ok, spinach not so good. Rainbow silver beet doing ok. most other herbs ( both medicinal and culinary ) doing alright as well. overall I'm pleased with what I'm getting, but just wish my tomatoes had done better. last year they were really good so dont know what's happened.

Hi Marty. Happy New Year. Could you send some of that rain over to the west? We have been in the high 30's to mid 40's here and no rain in sight. Not that we get much in summer anyway. My front lawn as all but turned off and no amount of watering seem to bring it back. Never has been a very good strain of buffalo grass from the get go.
I think the afternoon sun reflection off our front windows is what does it..

Well said Marty. My beans have been struggling in the heat but my tomatoes and cucumbers are doing well. Basil is also going well - I am making lots of pesto. I have space to plant more but not sure what to plant. Perhaps I will try some lettuce. Best wishes to you and the family.

@@martysgarden Thanks Marty. Wise words. Can I also ask you … I have a lemon tree that was planted mid last year which isn’t thriving. I have neglected the soil there. I have some new space in the garden that gets more sun. The soil in that garden also requires some TLC. Should I Re-locate the lemon tree to the sunnier position and build up the soils or should I just work on the soils in both areas? Then see how the lemon tree is doing?

    • @martysgarden
