The Crow is a superb movie!!!
Good indeed 👍
I can't wait to check out my copy of Chinatown. When you were mentioning paranoid thrillers of the 70s you hit on Klute, oh boy I'd love for that to get a proper 4k some day. Fonda and Sutherland had good chemistry
Would LOVE a nice 4K for KLUTE!
I actually was on the fence between film school and organic chemistry - I went for organic chemistry :-)
Glad it worked out 👍
I always enjoy your videos, Brian. You don't waste time by begging for subs and you and I share similar standards for physical media quality. I also thought OUATITW looks great on 4K. There's a lot of people out there on high horses who seemingly only watch movies through a microscope to see what they can find wrong. Life is too short to waste time like that. If people get paid to be critical, that's one thing but I still think people set the bar too high for themselves.
I’m with you 100%. I get there’s an element of consumer protection being attempted with a lot of these videos, but I feel like it’s gotten a little out of hand and creating “controversies” around new transfers has become a way to drive channel growth through negativity and that’s some k try to avoid If I can
I'm with you regarding the 4K edition of Once Upon a Time in the West. I get the criticisms but I still think the film looks good and is worth owning.
Thank you! Just saw another video drop criticizing it and I get that there must be some issues but to my eye it looks pretty good.
Happy Father's Day, man. Appreciate the alternative marine biology origin story - were you aspiring to be Hooper from JAWS?
We just recorded an episode for the CHINATOWN 50th and it's literally just an hour of us going, "Goddamn what an amazing movie."
Happy Father’s Day to you sir!!
Yeah you know Hooper was definitely an inspiration when u think about it !
And yes re: CHINATOWN - so so good
I get you're more about the movies than the tech stuff but I do think a little criticism of the OUATITW disc is warranted. Paramount is charging top dollar for this release. The scan is excellent but the disc authoring is nothing special and theres a touch too much "grain management" for my personal taste and digital noise. Kino could have released this for less money and it likely would have been slightly better. On top of that, the film has never been fully restored. There a few brief scenes still missing and there are music errors. I get that the disc is probably better than the old one but as this is likely it for OUATITW on disc its a little disappointing that they could not have restored the film to its original intentions. This might one of those films that in order to truly see it you need to see it on film.
All fair points 👍
I definitely appreciate what you are saying
@JustTheDiscs Keep up the good work sir!
Paramount is THE WORST when it comes to film preservation/these restorations. While these might be the "best" editions - so far - so much appears to have been left out. Why can't these "majors" find somone who might do the same sort of job that these boutiques labels do --- when it comes to (especially for these) all-time great films --- so we get something approcahing a definative package? All this being said - Chinatown is an amazing film --- one the ten best of the 70s.
All fair points
