Always liked this ABC doubleheader with Kentucky. Indiana, Louisville and Notre Dame they did for 3 or 4 years that started in 1987. Final Four Four esque atmospheres
Like to see them do something similar but with Purdue. Maybe make it a weekend thing. IU vs Louisville, Purdue vs UK on Friday night and then Sunday evening have them flip IU vs UK and Purdue vs UL
Almost like the unofficial start to the college basketball season. They'd let the #2 announcing team also call a game, I remember Jim Valvano's ABC debut was here. Then CBS would start televising this when they lost the NFL for a few years back in the 90's. Now, this weekend is reserved unfort. for college conference football championship games.
@@cubsflan someone take this man’s great idea and put it to work! Wow that would be an all out state of Kentucky state of Indiana throw down baby let’s do it !!!
Yes sir Bob Knight was the best and the greatest coach of my life time and I miss the Hoosier Basketball as it was like a good time to be a great basketball player and fan never again will there anything else like it. REST IN PEACE ROBERT THE GENERAL KNIGHT
If I'm commissioner of college football & basketball it mandatory that this rivalry is played yearly plus their game will be played at Lucas oil Stadium home of the Indianapolis colts shown on CBS or ESPN

Dicky V sure was hating on Jenkins during this game. Keith Jackson keep on talking about Jenkins passing up shots. At around the 6 minute timeout you can see Coach Sutton pointing on the floor telling Jenkins to shoot the ball. Which turned the game for UK. Sutton sure could coach.
Losing Alford and Daryl Thomas (RIP) were huge losses. Alford hit 107 3's in '87, and they had very little shooting in '88 until the emergence of Jay Edwards. The biggest issue was the fact that Knight put Ricky Calloway in the doghouse early in the year and it obviously hurt the morale of the team. If '89 was Knight's best coaching job, '88 was probably his worst.
@@BAYAREA-kd1ig Yep. Alford was a 2 time 1st Team All American, averaging 22.5ppg in 85-86 and 22.0ppg during their 86-87 title season and left IU as their all time leading scorer. And Daryl Thomas was their 2nd leading scorer behind Alford. Pretty big losses.
@@uncklebuckle6859 Man I had a drunk ass conversation about 17 years ago about Jay Edwards being one of the best clutch shooters in college. Shame he had substance issues.
Bama fan here but have always liked Kentucky and Indiana basketball. I was wandering and maybe u UK fans can answer this but what did Eddie Sutton do to get the cats put on probation? I never did like him. Besides Rupp I thought Joe B Hall was one of UK’s better coaches.
Concerning the Monday Night Football game they're promoting...neither of those teams would win the AFC East that year. Who would? Well, I'll give you a hint...it has something to do with this basketball game.
Wayne Smith Sutton dropped another turd in 86 when he lost to LSU in the Elite Eight. If UK had beat Villanova, I’m not sure they would have beat a Stacy King led Oklahoma in the elite 8. But, I agree, Ellis should have started over Lock
Erich Lippert I can’t find that game anywhere, but it seemed Rollie Massamino zoned UK most of the game. Sutton started three guards and nobody was really hitting. They had the Cats down by 12 or more at half and you had the feeling Villanova was in control
rbryant100 it still stings about that Villanova loss too. I mean this was the only year I can remember where Rollie and them did anything in the Tourney after their 85 miracle. It would come at our expense in the Tourney.

@@BBNTrashtalker Just makes sense for everyone. Do it at Lucas Oil. Gotta wait till Louisville gets back to being decent of course but yes
Love Bob Knight ! Rest in Peace ! Go Tulane
Still one of the most exciting UK/IU games ever! Such memories of myself and my Dad cheering on the Chapman to Madison play!
1986 SEC had four teams in the tournament instead of spreading them out one in each region they put U.K., Alabama and LSU in the same one.
Big 4 classic. I remember going to a couple of these. 😁

Yep, IU proposed that. But of course UK are pussies still
This will work, I'd sign up for this one. 100 thumbs up 👍🏽
Great game and brings back memories. Play calling, strategy of the game.

RIP to former Kentucky Wildcat, Cedric "Swoop" Jenkins, who BBN sadly lost at the age of 57 on March 20, 2023.

Something must be wrong with the audio -- Dick Vitale's words are understandable.
Back when Vitale was merely terrible instead of intolerable.
Loveably intolerable.
Rest in peace Ed Davender and Cedric Jenkins.
keith smart was a 5'3" senior in high school?! wow!
I’m ecstatically thrilled Indiana beat LSU 81”. 87 “ love Bob Knight ! LSU refused to play Tulane
Great game
their celebration almost as big as IU's celebration In New Orleans

I love that voice of chuck Crabb I like watching this I can't wait to go to north Carolina this is such a great starting lineup I like this one 😏 👍
Kentucky Wildcats made a comeback to win over Indiana
The Kentucky/IU series belongs in grand neutral sites like they did for decades. Nothing like a split arena cheering on a big game.
How did IU go from winning the 87 title to flaming out as a 4 seed in the first round in 88? They had the core of their 87 team. Were there injuries?
they had a national title (87) sandwiched between two first round exits (86, 88)
Losing Steve Alford?
Losing Alford and Daryl Thomas (RIP) were huge losses. Alford hit 107 3's in '87, and they had very little shooting in '88 until the emergence of Jay Edwards. The end of regulation Locke flops and gives himself a concussion!
In today's game they would've automatically call a flop warning
I seen john pelphrey in a timeout. That dude had ice water then, later it was in his veins.
This was a team that should've made the final four, Sutton's worst coaching job ever, Ellis should've been playing over Lock from day one
Wayne Smith I agree. Ellis was so talented. Still cannot believe they lost to Villanova in the Sweet 16. What a waste.

Where was alford?
He graduated in the spring of 1987. This game is fall 1987.
