    When I was tirteen years old I had a semi-auto 22 rifle (I mowed lawns for the money) and I had unlimited access to my big brothers 20 gauge shotgun. I lived in a small rural town and I could walk to the woods and fields and I did every chance I could. I could hunt all the land and no one cared. It was before lawyers ruined it all.
    Every Saturday morning I was tromping through the frost and I brought home rabbits and quail and squirrels and field larks and my family was so proud of me and I was proud of myself. It was my first experience at bread winning and it was great. Those days are gone forever.
    There were no deer back then but they were introduced later by wealthy people and have become so numerous that you can hardly drive to the grocery store without hitting one.
    Fried squirrel is really good and you have brought back a flood of memories. Thanks.

      notatechie I had a similar experience growing up. Would take my Remington Nylon 66 up to Big Robs Country Mart and if I had no money the ladies there would just let me take some ammo on credit to keep me hunting.....those were the good old days indeed!

    • @robobiss444
      @robobiss444 7 лет назад

      notatechie how is it ruined? I guess you live in the wrong place... my state is still 99% forested. Not much has changed here in the last 100 years as far as hunting goes. It is as you described

    • @notatechie
      @notatechie 7 лет назад +1

      Are you serious? When I was a kid I hunted anywhere and no lawyers or land owners cared. Nowadays, land owners don't want you on their property because they are afraid of getting sued. Could you imagine a 13 year old walking down the sidewalk in town with a long gun today? How about a High School with long guns in the back window of pickup trucks in the parking lot?
      I don't know where you live but you are a lucky SOB like I was when I was a kid, but didn't know it. My state is mostly concrete ( exaggeration).

    • @robobiss444
      @robobiss444 7 лет назад

      notatechie Rural Maine. 90 something percent of the state is private land and the law is, if it isn't posted you can hunt it. Only assholes post their land so there isn't too much to worry about. The guns at school deal is a matter of federal issue. We used to just park across the street if we were hunting after school.

    Great video. I was on a solo survival 7 day trip in the the high Sonoran Desert in Arizona. Lived in a cave, caught critters with dead fall traps. Had time to make my own pottery bowls. Found my own water and generally lived off the land for 7 days. As you said , get out there and forget the computer, cell phones, TV etc. I actually had a hard time leaving but what was harder was getting back into the rythm of the business world. Such an appreciated transition. Cant wait to get back out there. CB

      This is how I was raised. Grandpa me and my cousin(deceased). Walking the woods and learning about life. Sometimes we came home with something sometimes nothing. But walking the woods with my grandpa was a treat in itself. Most knowledgeable man I know. Taught me alot about life. Somedays the sun would shine others rain. He taught us that no day is a bad day unless you allow it to be. All about perspective. No matter how bad or good the hunt went we always went home with one another, thats a blessing by itself. Didnt matter if we were eating deer, rabbit. Turkey, squirrel, pheasant or quail or something grandma whipped up if we couldnt get anything. We always had something In the fridge to get us full and get us by. Grandpa doesnt hunt anymore Parkinson's too bad and he is 85 yrs old. But I take what he taught me and apply it everyday. Getting out there is the best park. Nature is amazing.

    I had the exact same 22 when I was younger and passed it down. I'll never forget what the rod feels like taking it out to load the bullets, and the gold that replaces the black hole where the gun is loaded, when you put the rod back in. Everything about the gun and how it looks, shot, and felt came back to me after I watched this video!

      @calvinh.8882 7 лет назад

      You gut them just like every other animal, only difference is it's smaller.. Rob can't show the gutting and blood on here anymore, because it's now against RUclipss rules/guidelines.. And if he was to get strikes from RUclips, they can delete his entire channel.. And well, there's no way i'd take that kind of chance if i had a channel as big as this one.. Peace!

    • @kermykermy1236
      @kermykermy1236 7 лет назад

      Calvin H. Well I didn’t know it was against the rules as I watched another video right after his and it got gutted and everything on it but I don’t make videos and I’ve only gutted fish it’s ok tho I’ll get some one to show me But am pretty sure a fish is a lot different to getting gutted to a rabbit ha!ha! But I’ll just wait for his reply thanks for your opinion tho all the same 🤙

    • @calvinh.8882
      @calvinh.8882 7 лет назад +1

      I'v gutted plenty myself, and it is basically the same as gutting a fish.. Only difference is, you're cutting fur and belly, and not fish skin and belly..
      And i wasn't being rude, Rob has answered this question many times now, and that's how i know why he isn't showing it anymore..
      And if you watched a video showing something being gutted, then it got demonetized, and the channel lost all the money they made..
      I hope you have a great night/day..

    So cool. My dad took me squirrel hunti g first time when I was about 9. We took my uncle's Winchester lever action 22 and the old family shotgun. It was about 100 year old Remington pump that belonged his grandfather. We went to the old family farm in Illinois and went to the woods (lots of old growth oaks). Walked quietly through woods and listed for the squirrels. Great big black fox squirrels

      Ryan Saunders I can't wait for my son to grow up that way. When I was 7 my dad bought me a little Henry repeater and taught me to shoot and how to respect nature and all in it. There isn't a better feeling than going out and coming home with food for your family. I think we ate squirrel three times a week for at least a month after I learned to hunt.

      Just yesterday I was on Facebook and an old high school gal was asking how to get her 11 year old son to not be vegetarian. I suggested to get him a little .22 and get him out shooting squirrels and cooking them up. She got real angry and flipped on out saying I don't know nothing about no kids and no one should be eating no squirrels. Well I don't know about you but I think that kid is going to be vegetarian for a long while if he don't learn no right of passage.

      Easy. Just gut him after the skin is off. Much neater that way, no hair sticking all over the meat and guts. Split him stem to stern and scoop. Save the heart and liver for the gravy.
