I’ve wanted blundstone & redbacks but I couldn’t wear them to the office. I found out RedWing makes a Chelsea I wanted after they were discontinued. I can find my size but only in all black which isn’t for me. Jim Green makes exactly what I want and I’ll be buying a pair soon!
I just got the stockman in wedge sole, they do look a bit wider than i expected. I immediately put in a foam insole which made it a lot softer and comfortable. Literally wore whole day without any issues
I have the Red Wings Heritageand the Jim Greens Stockman and the Greens are a no brainer. Great boot for great price. The finish is a little rough but the workmanship is tough.
Rossi boots are the best Blundstone alternative. They are basically the same thing but Rossi is still made in AUS and made with better materials with better lasts.
Rossi boots are now being made overseas except select models. This is straight from their website: “In April 2020, Rossi Boots joined the Australian owned and operated Propel Group alongside two more iconic Australian brands - Driza-Bone and RB Sellars. Staying true to their 110 year heritage, Rossi Boots continues to evolve, with a selection of the ‘Iconic Boots’ range still being crafted in their South Australian based factory.” Plus they don’t ship to US
You have to buy from the SA website, they ship to the UK which is expensive but still works out at a great price. I paid £120 inc shipping for the stockmans.
Thanks for this video. Ive been wanting a pair of Chelsea boots for awhile because of the convenience of just pulling them on. What I didn’t like about them was the pointy toe and dressy styling. I wanted some rugged work style Chelsea boots. But red wings are $300 and everything else was made in china or just not my style. These have the style I was looking for and the construction looks great.
Love the Jim Green products. Also try Helm boots if you can get them. I have their old model Chelsea and they’re great. Blake rapid stitch so they can be resoled. Couldn’t be happier.
Thanks for making videos like this. I have been looking for months for chelseas that don't look too dainty or too chunky and have good grip. The Jim Green Fudge Crazy Horse almost hit the mark for me. They do look like a good value, though. Have you considered Thursday (Legend model) Mark Albert, or Grant Stone chelseas?
@@CeeAreDee I totally get it. Even in Canada, which is literally conjoined to the USA, it's hard to get them. Except for Thursday boots, it can take as much as $100CAD just for shipping and customs, even more if you have to return or exchange.
@@bernardocardoso1356 Thursday’s quality isn’t as good as you might thought on the internet( definitely not as durable as Jimgreen), the legend model’s “lug sole” is just lug style foam. Grant stone is pretty nice indeed but I personally don’t feel comfortable supporting chinese made products. Just some personal opinions, hope it helps!
I've been super curious of these. Had a pair of Panama Jacks Burtons, which felt and looked amazing but the quality was bad. After those I've been looking for chelseas with good soles. How do the JM's compare to Red Wings chelseas you've reviewed?
My main qestion is how are these compared to the Red Wings? I got some steel toed Redbacks for work and thought about another non-steel toe for outside of work as they are so comfortable. Can still get Red Wing chelseas (2nds) here for a good price.
@@tinytim11b thanks for your note; from my chat w JGr…on IG.. the last is same with Vallies which I have a pair. After a year + of wearing them my left foot is apparent a bit smaller so I end up w too much room. I also like a non slippery but walking sole, may be the Ranger sole . Thinking for a custom outback in black crazy horse leather. :-) no lasses!
I would like to throw a danish brand into the mix! Have you looked at "Duckfeet"? They have a chelsea called "Roskilde". They also sell you a pair of soles, so you can replace your soles yourself at home once they have worn down (or get a cobbler to do it). Also, what's your reasoning behind not looking at getting a pair of RM Williams? They have the Gardener boots with the commando soles, that's a pretty rugged boot if you ask me.
Thanks for the review. I'm looking into my first pair of Chelseas and these are looking like the ones I'll probably get. How are those soles holding up? Have you had a chance to try them in the wet yet?
Yeah. In the wet they are a little unpredictable. I think it’s just that kind of sole regardless of the material. I ended up getting another pair with the lug sole. Way better.
I like the redbacks idea for housework. But they are so aggressive it takes away from what it could be. And this is where Jim Green is just right there in the middle. Also im confused why Blundstone didnt beat Jim Green to the punch with stitchdown/goodyear sewn on construction with a vribram outsole. And even do it right around their same price point and throw the gauntlet down for long lasting footwear. IF they did everyone will give them praise.
@CeeAreDee Thank you kindly. Appreciate it. They arrive this weekend and I'm pretty excited. If I love them I'll probably order some Vellies from JG as well. Those are supposed to be super comfortable and hold up really well.
I’ve also been looking for an alternative to Blunnies that are higher quality and resoleable. Love the look of Blundstone, but the disposable nature is a turn off. Thanks for the video. These are now officially on the radar!
The biggest difference is that the Blundstone was made in a very inexpensive construction with a direct attached sole. The Jim Green shoe is made using the so-called stitch down process. This process is more elaborate and of higher quality and more durable.
They are good around solid uneven surfaces. Out in the loose dirt they are not all that great. Least the ones I have. But there’s a model with a lug sole which would be perfect for that.
@@CeeAreDee Thank you for the reply! I ordered a pair of outbacks and didn't like the traction just walking on tile with a little spilled water on it. Ended up replacing them with the Stockmans (lugged sole version) - we'll see how those are once they arrive.
I’m looking for something (Chelsea) with a rugged sole, preferably with a shank insert for kickstarting my Norton, so either a Redwing or the Jim Green 🤔
Great boots! They look incredibly comfortable. 😁👍 I’m with you on laces… they drive me insane. Along with keys stuck in jeans pockets… and cyclists without lights at night. to be fair any boot can be repairable, it's just a matter of whether you want to pay a premium for a cobbler to install a welt on a non-welted boot.
