  • In this video, I will walk you through 6 most common mistakes Chinese learners make. Most mistakes we make in the target language are due to the difference between our first language and the target language. It is important to be aware of the common mistakes and try to avoid them when using the target language. Making mistakes is normal but we always want to avoid the glaring mistakes that hold us back from sounding natural and understandable.
    Video timeline (timestamps):
0:38 mistake #1 using adverbs without verbs
1:27 mistake #2 using 是 before an adjective

2:55 mistake #4 placing time-related clauses at the end of the sentence
3:49 mistake #5 using 和 to connect sentences
5:22 mistake #6 always translating "if" as “如果”
I hope this video helps you connect your knowledge in Chinese grammar usages and feel more confident when speaking Chinese in the future.

Dope content like always! Small suggestion: mix the music a bit lower or use a less busy music. I think the neo-soul/mellow lo-fi is a lot better suited for educational videos because it makes everything less busy and organized for the ears. Or you can also remove the music during the information-heavy parts in the first place.
For instance you could have music while you say "mistake 2: doing this instead of this" and then when you explain it there's no music. I dunno just some thoughts

I like the music but I agree it could be mixed a bit lower.

I think that, for some adjectives, 是 is indeed used, but then the adjective is followed by 的.
This is certainly true for colours and for shapes. For example:
她的头发是黑色的 = "Her hair is black"
她的脸是圆的 = "Her face is round"
I don't know if there are any good rules for when this structure should be used.

In Hungarian, we also would say "America very big", without "is". A sensible language, at long last :)
