This music perfectly encapsulates what I know about Ultima. The series is legendary. Not only for being one of the first huge RPG games, but for inspiring games like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, which are legendary in their own right. Lord British did right...
Ultima 9 was a game that was, sadly, ahead of it's time. When it came out, only a top end computer was able to handle the requirements. Even all these years, I still say Ultima 6, though it was my first game, is one of the best RPG games. It was not until ES4: Oblivion till there came an RPG with such a world to match.
i have the collector edition.......still one of my favorite games....and i have been playing ultima since 1982....ultima 1 on my atari 400 baby........
I agree with TheodeN there.. most of the beautiful music often has a sad side to it. beautiful(ness?) and sadness is like each side of a coin.. or something xD i know so many beautiful songs that kinda makes the heart heavy. Violine and piano especially. beatiful pieces, but often sad.
@WildBuck007 Many of the older companies are gone, but there are a lot good young ones. Look at all the talent that is showing up in eastern Europe. Games like The void, The witcher, King's bounty, Elven legacy, Majesty 2, Mount & blade. These are games that, instead of offering an instant gratification, like most western games, offers long term enjoyment.
They are either from Demo versions, Tech demo's and so on, but I remember the last one being a drawing that was on the inside flap of the box of ultima online the second age.
You are playing the first release of the game that was released in December of 1998. A patch CD came out subsequent to the initial release. Using this install CD instead of the one you used initially will clear up all the bugs in the version you have. Copies are fairly easy to come by, dated February of 1999, if you are interested.
oh have you seen the tailer for the game, i saw in it there was a deck and a ship came up that wasnt raven's ship and i dont know how to get to that part of the game. And on that deck there was a lever i never fround a deck in the came with one. And did you notice the levers floating in the sky above the shrines? There is a lot above the Honor shrine, i climbed up there stacking my items but when i touched them they did do anything that I saw, do you know?
i finished the game even with the bugs, so you can beat the game. one problem i couldnt get out of was going under water to the place where you learn the 3rd 2 handed sword fighting. i could swim back up. I dont find this game disappointing maybe because i have only played Ultima 9. i really like this game. Alice was made a year after this game but you cant do some of the fun things you can do in here.
tlkchew How is it? I only found out about it today. I only used to RP back in the UO days. I got bugger all else done but the RP was freaking awesome. If its like UO with a modern touch without losing the charm I'm in..
+tlkchew I have been playing for a few weeks now after a mid level backing pledge. It's very buggy and rough but I know it's early access. It is shaping up to be something special.
The games might have been up and down in quality, but Stones was always there to stay. If that's a good thing or not depends on how much you like Iolo, I guess.

Yea it was pretty bad its own story was very appealing, i would hope they would remake the Ultima games into what they should have been originally but were limited by the technology of their time. There was a group working on making a remake of the ultima games but many were put on hold due to real life constraints.
just played this for the first time last week, after an hour or so when i went to cleanse the shrine of compassion a plotstopper bug occured! to bad!! the rune just dissapeared... a shame really, i liked this game!
Oh yes, and here I am reading your comment and curling into a ball and crying my eyes out. I will give you this, Ultima 9 had a few (very few) good points. However, I must stress that the game is not very well put together on both a programming and storytelling level, not to mention that the game does not follow the continuity from the previously established games at all. My comment was not intended to insult you, but to point out that I find the games cons far outweighing its pros.

This game pissed me off to no end. I would always make it far, but one bug or another always kept me from finishing it. :(
