I LOVED this game so much! Ah, the good old days, trapped in your guild house by 15-20 murderers, and not daring to go to a dungeon alone because some thug was sure to take your armor, weapon, and anything else of value you might be carrying. The best part about it was, guilds stuck together because they HAD to. There was nothing like facing a real human challenge, and overcoming it with your friends, no game has ever even come close to what UO was in those days, and probably never will.
All Hail the mighty UO! Smile if you remember playing this on the release day. I was at my kitchen table in the UK, mates all around me, on a 14,400 baud modem (dial-up) with servers at this time only in the US...imagine the PAIN?!?! it was the best of times, and for many, many years after we will never catch the wonderful snapshot of life again. Those naive times pre-broadband. Now before a MMO has left beta, sites know everything and it's fully mapped out. Nothing to discover :(
Like so many others, this brings back memories. chill bumps all over me within the first 3 seconds of this song follow by a slightly shed tear. I'll miss you old school UO. What memories, friends and even enemies we had.
This song brings tears to my eyes. Seriously the greatest game to ever grace the gaming world. Sadly developers do not understand what it takes to make a great master piece like this. I can't be the only one that hopes and wishes for a new game to come out like this. Farewell :(
I still remember my first few levels running around in Britain's cemetery with a bunch of enemies behind me in line, hitting them off one by one; or mining for hours and hours straight. I will never have such dedication to a game ever again.
I remember my first day. Had aspirations of being a miner so I started in Minoc and went north. Just as I was finishing off my first orc a Dread Lord ran up to me, and one Corp Por later I was dead. I vowed to get my revenge. A few months later I stood over his corpse with a lot of confused OooOOOOOooooooOOoOOOOoooos coming from his ghost. He wasn't even a challenge.
Ah yes, back when roleplayers actually played RPGMMMOs. Friendly people, mystical quests. It makes me kind of sad even though the memories are happy. May you all live well.
2003 was when Age of Shadows came out. While it was nice to finally get some more usable land for home building, the atrocious homes that people created as well as the revamping of the combat system left a lot to be desired. Once upon a time I was a Counselor on Napa, and I loved the game so hard back then. Then the volunteer program got killed, UO Third Dawn (gag!) came out, UOX got nixed... *sigh*
If anyone would like to join a fresh shard that incorporates some modern day touches like an Enhanced Guild System and optional Instanced Dungeons, check out www.ultima-shards.com! We launch July 2nd! Play with hundreds of players!
Well, think that I have been playing since *ugh*, hard to remember, 2004? It's not such a difference... I must admit it's worse than before but without changes the game would disappear.
how come when i hear this song the memories come back and i cry....
Ultima online..RIP

I sat at a desk in a basement for months crafting scrolls and somehow it was the most fun I've ever had in a video game!?

Its not an easy task. The developers of UO have tried again and failed.... sometimes the memories are better than realty.
This game is amazing but people playing it with me made this game much more amazing :-(

I haven't played uo, but I can assure you that stones is a powerfull song even without nostalgia. I love it.
Such a good game, and good song. Sadly the game was completely destroyed. Ultima was the best MMO ever.

I'm looking forward to giving Shroud of the Avatar a try... hoping it catches even a bit of that same UO/Ultima feel.

Just goes to show what EA can do to a game... Why did they have to change everything? It was perfectly fine the way it was, they killed it...

I know. Thats why I said when it was first released, and up into the early 2000s. Around 2003 or so the games started to suck hard.
Still is.

Stiner tin man against all adversaries magnetic fields recognize it not stupid look at do to your selfish ways...
Not really. If you played when the game was first released up into the early 2000s, you would be very disappointed with how things turned out.
