I bought this on release in 1999... had to downgrade to my voodoo 2 from a much better card just to play it. I had UO back then and this and I don’t care what people said this game was awesome
I remember EA/Origin shut down their Forums for this game after so many people with pc's that could not support the new graphics at the time had slow run times. I had just gotten a 3dfx voodoo 3 Which came out also in 1999. As a result I had a great time playing this final swan song from Lord British. I thought it was brilliant. Still have it in its Dragon Edition somewhere. Ultima Dragons were a group of gamers committed to the game series.
Holy camera and orientation twitch, Batman. Guess they didn't implement current/target variable interpolation yet. That floating point was just too expensive.
I think when you didn't play the previous games you were less biased. The Ultima fancrowd sharpened their pitchforks for this one. I never played the other titles and I only knew 2D RPGs like Baldurs Gate so playing Ultima 9 was a blast. I think it already had several features or mechanics that were later used in other third person rpgs like Gothic or Morrowind.
How did you fix the widescreen problem? At 1920x1080 you cant use the red tab on the book to jump around pages. This looks more like 1024x768 to me, or how did you do it?
I know I'm a year late responding but perhaps recent events from another franchise can shed some light. Bethesda's Fallout franchise. Ultima 9 and Fallout 76 are both glitchy games that retcon lore, and both came out when their respective companies stopped caring. Both are still playable and fun. They both just suffer from AAA company rush out the door syndrome.
Moving from the world map into a dungeon without a loading screen. That was mind-blowing back then.
This game was a developing challenge and deserve respect
It was too good for its time. People weren't ready for it both in terms of their mind and hardware

Why do I love the graphics so much?
dreamcast graphics))
@@Мстящийбоксер-ъ6г о да :)
It's PC graphic
Idk I think they look horrible for 2000s Era pc game but tge worse part is with those graphics it's still getting like 17 fps is a joke.
What is the game engine of it?
Imagin it would be possible to implement Ray Tracing to it, like in Quake 2.
I remember this game - I played it for months and months
Ground breaking stuff
yes :D

Ultima 9 but each time it contradicts the other games it gets faster.
ok the gold falling out of the wolfs ass did make me laugh... this is classic

Still revolutionary you can look at all of the RPG games today and see where it all started, even Witcher 3 owns this game a debt of gratitude...
Not this game lol maybe the old school ultimas this came out after neverwinter knights lol and looks plays worse.
CD Projekt was inspired by Baldurs Gate and other earlie bioware games and not this garbage fire what was totaly forgotten 6 month after release.
@@markusklein7222 Prove it.
@@CtheDead209-zt8tj I am talking about the graphics and this kind of game play was unheard of at the time. I know, I was there.

I want a new Ultima game.
Call me crazy, but I kind of liked this game back then. There's something about it, despite all its sins and clunkiness.

Wish all of the Ultima games had been in 3rd Person like this!
to be fair, this game still looks better than anything on ps1
22:35 I can remember stab-spamming that thing all the time
that feeling when game of 1999 has better textures than ps2 games
Мстящий боксер Did you really just compare a full fledge PC game to PS2 games? -__-
That feeling when your 1999 game runs at 17fps while most ps2 game run at 30-60.... even ps1 games gave this game a run for its money....
This game has better Textures than MGS 2/3 or Jak Trilogy ? Yeah i dont think so.

why does everyone seem to hate this game?
Darthrocker06 because it didn't live up to earlier entries in the series, and was rushed.
Because it's the only really good Ultima? The earlier ones are a bit hard to play nowadays.

Because you had to have a NASA computer to run it when it came out. Terribly optimized game.
