The more educated we become about this form of evangelization the less chance of "fake" iconographers getting a hold on our Church. As a Luth coming into Orthodox after much study and searching...it took about one year for me to get a good understanding of the icons. This video is excellent in its presentation.

Do not confuse Icons or images with idols (false gods). God himself was the first Iconographer when he made man in his image(Icon in Greek).
