Thank you for actually speaking in your vids and for moving simply and slowly. It makes everything so much easier to understand when I'm so unfamiliar with this software.
I really love your tutorials. You explain them slowly and so clearly and outline all of the steps and keys/mouse that you press along the way. You tutorials have helped me imensely and I am extremely grateful. So a huge thank you. :)
I am just finding inkscape and just learning it and have to say that your pace is excellent and instruction clear. I can usually do the tutorial without watching it first. I may pause once or twice if I missed a move but overall, very good. thanks.
Your are a great graphic tutor. I did not have any clue how to use inkscape, by following your tutorial I learned how to use most of the tools on the way when I am following your lessons. This is superp tut. Thanks a lot.
@BLUELIONFILMS To allow the gradient to move you need to the press the "Transform Gradients" button on the toolbar. This is the 3rd button in the section titled "Affect." Alternately, you can go to the "File->Inkscape Preferences" menu and then select "Transforms" in the left column. Then on the right, select the checkbox for "Transform gradients." This should help.
I've never Xara Extreme. I have been using Inkscape version 0.48 which is the latest version and the version that I would recommend. GIMP is another nice free graphics program.
Click on the Selection tool (or just press F1). On the toolbar at the top you should see a section labeled "Affect" that has several buttons. You can hover your mouse over the buttons to see their titles. Click on the button titled "Move gradients (in fill or stroke) along with the objects."
A great, slowly-shown (with all steps) and well-explained Tutorial If I was absolutely forced to put my "Nit-Picking Gloves" on, I could only really say minutia, such as the "8" and the circle for it look 'pasted on' somewhat, as they are not angled along the side of the ball (that element is not centred, so the circle and number could be angled and warped slightly, appearing 'rounded' around the side of the ball); but for such a well done - and quickly so (just a few minutes!) - video, tailored for and directed to beginners, thank you very much for your time and kind delivery of how to do this. Fantastic.
I enjoyed your tutorial. Totally new to Inkscape (after years of using PaintshopPro). Can definitely see Inkscapes potential and am fast becoming a fan of open source software in general. Look forward to your other videos. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you your tutorial has to be one of the best explained video out there can't get any easier I a was able to do it on the first attempt keep it up!
I'm brand new after watching a few basic videos, but followed along easily. Mine came out perfect. I was surprised we didn't have to add some distortion or perspective to the circle around the 8 but it looks fine with all the shading. I'm going to do the "rusty gear" next. Hope to venture onto some of my own logo's soon!
If you're going to create something like the eight ball in this video, then I would suggest using Inkscape. If you want to edit photos then I would suggest using GIMP.
Looks nice! But I really wish that there was a way to make the '8' to have some sort of warpage to match the topography of the sphere.... kind of like if you were to drop a rectangle piece of cloth onto a ball, the cloth would actually bend to cover the shape of the ball.
I'm sorry but I don't have tutorials on DVD. They are only available on the internet. Maybe your son could look for public internet access somewhere. Sometimes libraries have internet access. If he can find a Starbucks then they might have internet access.
@jproquemore You can the view the video titled "Inkscape Tutorial - Text Effects" to learn one method for manipulating text. To change the perspective of the text, do the following things differently from the video. 1) When drawing the polygon around the text, start at bottom left corner. Experiment with the shape. 2) Instead of selecting "Extensions->Modify Path->Envelope", select "Extensions->Modify Path->Perspective."
Nice tutorial. If I needed to create an 8 ball with the 8 to the far right or left, how would I skew or transform the 8 so it looks correct? Thank you.
I have a quick question. When adding gradient to an object, how would I go about maintaining the gradient when moving the object about the page? I created a leaf and was in the process of repositioning it when I noticed that the gradient kept shifting : ( Please help!! Thank you in advance for any assistance you can offer!! You're the BEST!! ~ : )
This was an awesome tutorial. Thanks for explaining everything so well. Now I know just enough to be dangerous. I'm going to practice making the rest of them on my own.
I like this ball, can you make a circle and but a square graphic and then get the graphic in the circle, so that the graphic is circular in the circle graphic?, this is hard to explain...
Thank you for actually speaking in your vids and for moving simply and slowly. It makes everything so much easier to understand when I'm so unfamiliar with this software.
Excellent tutorial. Its rare people will go through in the amount of detail you have and take the time to explain. Thanks
This is literally the first thing I've ever done with Inkscape or any sort of SVG program. Very slick tutorial, straight and to the point.
