Hi I used to do quite a few Windsors in the '80s and very early '90s out of a workshop at Seven Hills called Thunder Road Engineering (TRE), hope you remember the 2V 351, I did for Dave & Adam Dentons purple XY. It had a John Cain 2V tunnel ram, C4, 9 inch. A few interesting facts about the car- it was originally a white XW Fairmont 302 that Dave had brought BRAND NEW.
The STD block (it was never bored), rods, and crank came from John Koolbanis (C&B engineering) daily driver Fairlane amazingly it still had a perfect virgin bore, after-market fasteners, quality stock size valves, flat top forged pistons, and probably a 236/242 cam with 550 lift oil pan, windage tray, manifold splash tray, electronic ignition, good balancer. As an experiment, I spent a lot of time matching each port to its cylinder position and it probably had a specific left and right head, the cambers were also given an extensive workout. Piston-to-deck clearance would have been tight as lumpy pistons cost a lot and had flame front problems. The C4 original to car, had a converter (2800rpm?) Trans Go shift kit, new std rebuild clutches and bands. I think the gear ratio was 4.33 ??. The funny thing was it used 24.5 x 10.5 x 14 slicks that I had brought secondhand about 8 yrs earlier.
Nitrous times were 10.78, but interestingly consistent non-nitrous times was 11.2 sec- had we ever sorted out the nitrous it would have been a high 9-second street car in early 1991 at Eastern Creek. I think the flywheel horsepower was probably only 420 to 450, tunnel rammed it would have had a huge amount of torque, plus 2 nitrous plates (the reason we used a low fatigue std bore block), plus 4.33s, and out-of-the-hole it could carry both wheels a few inches off the ground for a significant distance. No parts or labor on the build were sourced more than 20 km from home. Job done, ( run at 10 sec pass), they sold the car and moved on to racing outboard boats. On a finishing note, Dave's preparation of the car was meticulous.

Probably a little before my time that is, i would of been still right into all the magazine reads haha but those et times for what was used is quite stout 💪🏼🏁

Hello 69janks , just a quick personal history , back in 1989 my CLEVELAND was a factory 302 in my Fairmont Ghia XD . I honed the perfect bores put ARP rod bolts , mild hyd cam performer 2V 600 vac STD factory pistons and Isky 115 lbs springs rev limit 6000rpms . The Fairmont ran 14.3 @ 97mph with 3.9 diff gears with a 2500 stall . Anyway I eventually went 351 , I hope you enjoy my story as I enjoyed yours.

Right on PB that is awesome, thanks for sharing……I’ve always said that a spruced-up 302 with some extra revs will get up & go alright👌🏼🏁, mine here was only raced with the 2.75:1 gears unfortunately🤷🏻‍♂️ & only 5000rpm redline limit……but was good overall & had some great times👍🏼🏁

Haha!! Watching this brought back memories, you did well with the 2.75’s … at least you had a 351 , my first car was a 302c xc h/top (I still have her and it still has the same spec motor) even modified I couldn’t get into 13’s. I found out later, by running the factory electronic dizzy on a dizzy graph that it would float at 5000. My next car was a 351 that’s when things got serious haha!! Have a good one, cheers mouse

    Hey Janks!
I agree - mid 14s at that weight and with 2.75 gears out back is respectable - aren't a lot cars run that quick at that weight!
I owned the high school lot, only one year though - Chev, Chevelle, close ratio 4spd w/2.2 first gear, 4:10s, locked, ladder bars, 307 & a Q-jet. 1/4 to 3/8s mile circle track cam (still have good low-end) headers & duals.
Heavy car 3660. I had drive the thing from the hit or else it'd just sit there spinning.
Only way I owned the parking lot was that I could drive my a$$ off, kinda P.O.ed the guys with much quicker cars.
I was blessed with lightning quick reflexes (not my words) and practiced the hit and shifting for an hour twice a week.
None of the others did that, and it gave me enough edge to get out on some pretty quick cars - and stay there!
Clevelands and a solid Falcon, Comet or Mustangs being REAL expensive kept me out of my (preffered) Fords for a few years, but I had fun and learned!

Right on MCM you had some cool toys & muscle👌🏼🏁……your not wrong but, running mid-14s with highway gears at 1600kgs & only 2.0-2.2s 60ft it was still moving🤷🏻‍♂️🏁, had 13s in it for sure with lower rear gear & stickier tires💪🏼🏁

      Oh I agree!!
I'm sure it would have run away from that Chevelle.
I might have stayed with you with the highway gears, but a set of 3:55s and even on street tires you'd have pulled on me.

@@Motor-City-Mike man it was a tire shredder with the 3.5s , 1st was a waste , 2nd could breakout just on acceleration (let alone a rev-dump) & 3rd would power skid also…… it was overkill actually for an engine that topped out at 5k rpm🤷🏻‍♂️, just had that performance “tow style cam” in it that was torque’y down low…….. probably 3.0s-3.25s would of been awesome for it to be honest……good times MCM 👍🏼🏁
