- Die innige Beziehung zwischen Valentin Grüner (Gründer des Modisa Wildlife Projects gemeinsam mit Mikkel Bille Legarth) und der anderthalbjährigen, von ihm aufgezogenen Löwin Sirga ist mit Worten schwer zu beschreiben. Man muss es sehen. Ich hatte das Glück, als Volontär live dabei sein zu dürfen. Freilich nur als Begleiter und Beobachter, nicht als Spielkamerad für Sirga! Juli 2013 in der Kalahari, Botswana. Danke, Ulrike. Dieses Jahr konnte ich die beiden nicht mehr begleiten, sondern nur noch vom Auto aus sehen. Jedes Mal Glücksgefühle pur. Die Aufnahmen darf ich leider nicht veröffentlichen, da professionelle Filmarbeiten im Gange waren. Aber deren Ergebnis wird dich begeistern. Eine einstündige Dokumentation wird bald im Fernsehen zu sehen sein. Der Trailer wurde gerade im Internet vorgestellt. Kann es kaum erwarten!!

Ulrike Seddig Dieses Video hier sowie weitere von Val und Sirga, die du unter meinem Namen findest sind von mir. Die Dokumentation lionheart ist natürlich NICHT von mir. Ich war nur diesmal gerade da, als das Filmteam noch vor Ort war und bin glücklich, ein wenig von der Entstehung dieses Filmes mitbekommen zu haben. Eigene Aufnahmen davon darf ich bislang nur privat nutzen.
There is one thing you should know. I worked for Modisa Wildlife Project and was lucky to be there when Valentin sometimes took a volunteer with him for his usual walk with Sirga, a lioness he raised up, because her mother left her. This walk is not a part of the volunteer programm. The volunteers are now following them in a car only, because Sirga became adult. They don't breed lions, so there is no cub petting or interaction with the animals there like lions, leopards and wild dogs.
There are other places which offer lion walks for money and just for fun. When the lions are too big, they sell them for canned hunting. I don't support this kind of lion walks at all.
That's horrible they sell them for canned hunting. I DESPISE that atrocity. If it's possible to be worse then so-called 'hunting' of tame lions that have been petted and are familiar with humans is so barbaric there are no words. This should be illegal and those who participate are sick and evil and should be jailed. I am glad this beauty will not end up like that.
baobab3ful This is such a crazy coincidence. I friend of mine posted this video and I thought, wow that looks so familiar! Then I went through my photos from when I was living in Botswana for a few years (2012-2014) and realized, yep! I met these two when Sirga was just a cub! I have some lovely photos I'd be happy to share, including one of Sirga jumping on Valentin's face, except I don't know how to share them here in the comments. Please let me know if you want them, or if you have Valentin's info so I can send them to him :)

It is Valentin, who was always together with her and has that special relationship. Mikkel, the cofounder, is not that close with Sirga, but she knows him well too, of course.

She is 18 month that moment and big for her age. From then she put on weight only. My daughter met her two month later (you can have a look: And action, Sirga), just before Valentin stopped to take a volunteer with him.

Yes, a little twig, it doesn't hurt. Don't worry about that. He has a relation to her like a family member, he can't slightly bite or scratch her as a lion would do to tell her to stop with something she shouldn't do.

most professionals who care for lions do use a twig sometimes they also shout you can see the video "in to the tribe"

I don't like that he keeps a stick in his hand when he takes Sirga for a walk.Seriously!Isn't obvious that Sirga doesn't want to hurt him????
Keep in mind that she is a lion, even when she grow up with him. She doesn't want to hurt him for sure, but her play with him can become very intense. Adult lions in a pride would show her how to behave, so as her "dad" he has to do so. And he hasn't teeth or claws, he uses that little stick (which not even harms her at all.) That time her weight was 120 kg, now it is 180 kg and she is huge and so beautiful. Both are still happy together. Watch out for the documentary: Saving Sirga - Into the heart of a lion (released in some parts of the world already) and you can get more information about this awesome friendship. :)
