What a fantastic lesson David. I have so many blues ideas I’ve developed over the years of playing but never reached the satisfaction of completing whole songs. This video lesson has inspired me to do that. Just brilliant! Thank you. 🙏🏼
Love your lessons. I done play in standard tuning so can’t use. The material directly, but like your ability to explain structure and the parts of a tune. Thanks and cheers from Ottawa.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm for the blues! I’m mostly amateur level and you have opened some incredible doors for me! Thank you!
This has been an enormously helpful lesson. It helps bridge that gap from basic tab to now what? Really clear and appropriate instruction. Delighted to have found the channel.
David knows. He is the real deal and I'd love to see anyone say who's got a more complete understanding of what music and the guitar means...especially blues.
Hi David, you mention singing here and I am a singer and I wondered if you would be at all interested in doing a short discussion/example on how you approach how you play this one while singing, preferably how to simplify but stay interesting, so the instrumental stands out?
I stumbled upon these videos today and have watched them 3 times already. I first bought your TrueFire lessons about a month ago, which I am still working through. I have been self taught since I was in my teens and never really had any formal guitar lessons. I am in my 30's now and trying to hone in on fingerstyle and guitar theory. I have been taking different online courses and your videos have REALLY helped me get through terminology and playing plateaus that I have been running into while learning fingerstyle. I really have connected to the way you explain playing. One thing I am struggling with is finding instructional videos on theory. I have read books about theory and song structure pertaining to blues, but I seem to learn better with hands on explanation. Do you have any instruction that explains theory and blues song structure more in depth?
I don't know what superlatives to throw at you -awesome is so over worked and expletives for emphasis are probably not a good idea but these lessons are ****Ing brilliant. Many Thanks! Question - If you were playing with others could you just rock the vamp and take turns improvising over it and if so would you have any strategies or tips or suggestions in regard to doing that?
Ron, I missed seeing this comment earlier! If you were playing with other people, you could still play through the form of the tune multiple times as a way to pass around the solos. You'd just want to emphasis the groove, the part the thumb is doing, and lay back on or leave out entirely whatever your fingers are doing when you're playing the melody. Soloing over the vamp would be fun too :-).
Musicians! Listen to this post! Nothing sounds worse than walking into a music store to get strings than hearing SONG FRAGMENTS! Learn the entire piece of music! Learn form INTRO = 4 bars A section = 8 bars repeat A section =8 bars B section =8 bars A section =8 bars If you don’t know exactly what this means please take it to a good musician and ask questions! Thank You!
Yes, this notation was a compromise I made with the notation software :-). When I tried to write them as triplets, they wouldn't line up with the shuffle bass line.
Great lesson series, THANKS 🙏

Wow, Dave! Most comprehensive lesson on song construction etc, I have ever had! Thank you for posting!
Yeah, you are ice on fire. Love your lesson style.
The thumb independence with the beat of the song is the challenge for me. Keeping the beat
Your explanation's are so clear & down to the root's of fingerstyle playing. No one is better. Thank you.

Thanks for your great lessons. On page 6 of the PDF for the Sout Chorus, shouldn't they be triplets instead of 8th and 16th notes?
