    I fucking love this. A lot of people may think that it isn´t as good as the old times, but holy shit, this is something different and you can actually enjoy their hard work. This is one of those bands that are saving music.

    Jamie Bravo for the win from this I one . Blue Eyed & Magdalena from Ep 2. What goes Boom from the first.
    All of those = awesome new Pixies tracks to me that hearing them got me fully excited.
    Next tier down- Silver snail, another toe, snakes, indie. These are growers for me - I like them lot.
    Ring them bells, andro - jury is out still . Time will tell.
    Bag boy , Greens & Blue - I find myself hitting skip.
    You know though? That's a pretty good strike rate for a new pixies album considering how old they are.
    Well done Pixies. You get a gold star!

    I for one commend the courage and bravery of Black Francis and the crew. Ok, it might not always hit the spot but they've had a good go at it!! Can't wait to see them this summer.....

    Jaime Bravo - WOW.
    I'm continuously amazed by this *ultimate* of bands - their gaps between songs are better than the output of most others tbqfhwy.

    I can't agree with some of the more negative comments here. I've been a Pixies fan since their beginning, but just as I, now in my 40's, have changed and matured over the years so have they. With one or two exceptions, I think the new material is very good, and will likely stand the test of time.

    I don't care for any backlash this comment may receive. I stand by my opinion that this is amazing music and an amazing set of Pixies tracks. All the way from EP-1 to EP-3. People who describe the new songs as "Boring" just doesn't cut it for me. The more I listen, the more I appreciate. And hasn't that always been beauty of this band? I'm glad to be a long-time fan who thoroughly enjoys the new songs. Sure, they sound different. But Surfer Rosa/Come on Pilgrim and Trompe Le Monde are a universe apart in sound and content. I don't know why I'm trying to justify my liking of these new songs to those who simply wont listen. But hell. I LOVE them! Greens and Blues... I can't even describe how that song and video makes me feel. My girlfriend even bought the song for her journey to work, which really surprised me. I guess we have a new song we can revel in together.

      And, I am not claiming to be ahead of the curve in music taste. However, I do think these songs are. And I truly believe that a lot of you haters will be eating your own words in years to come. Just you wait.

    My current "preferred tracks" list for the new stuff. Fair warning that I swear no long term allegiance to these ratings, this list will probably change 20x over the next year as I adsorb it all, that's the beauty of Pixies:
    1. Greens and Blues (luv how I rate it #1 and previous two posters last. Pixies in a nutshell) 2. Indie City 3. Andro Queen 4. Magdalena 5. Blue eyed hexe 6.Ring the Bell 7. Jaime Bravo 8. Snakes 9. Bagboy 10. ANother Toe 11. Silver Snail 12. What goes boom.
    All subject to change after repeated listening until its a 12 way tie for first ;o).

      @vraikorrigan 10 лет назад

      Indie City or Punk Rock Cindie ?! ;-)
      OK, let's play. I've been listening now 30 times to that album, and I must say that BAGBOY and BLUE EYED HEXE, and also ANDRO QUEEN and JAIME BRAVO (which I didn't like at first), are real growers. After some doubt, now I love those 4 tracks.
      Here's my first list : 1. Magdalena 2. Blue Eyed Hexe 3. Bagboy 4. What Goes Boom 5. Indie Cindy 6. Andro Queen 7. Silver Snail 8. Jaime Bravo 9. Greens and Blues 10. Ring the Bell
      I won't even rate Another Toe & Snakes. I still don't understand why Pixies recorded that shit.

    @landondonovanify these are produced by Gil Norton. The Same producer who produced all of the Pixies albums, except for the first one which is produced by Steve Albini. Gil Norton is an exceptional producer but tends to sound more polished these days. Why is frank singing like that? Because usually Kim is there to sing those parts, but if you listen to Tromp le Monde and bossanova, he has vocals like this all over the place, he is just better with pitch these days so they sound less bob dylan and more like Brian Wilson now. In the context of the chronological order of pixies albums, frank black albums, then back to the pixies, this sounds like a natural progression, to me.

    I like bagboy an silver snail not so keen on ring the bell an less keen on jaime bravo.i think after 20 odd years you cant expect a band to write how they did when they were in there height of youthful creativity an the voice changes as you get older your vocal cords arent as flexible taken that in to account there are still some good songs on the new album blue eyed hexe,bagboy,,silver snail, magdalena, indie cindy.if nirvana were still going would they be writing songs as good as nevermind or in utero no they wouldnt it just doesnt happen.i like this new pixies album cause i wasnt expecting it to be like surfer rosa or any other of there albums written 20 odd years ago.

    Again, fair warning that I swear no long term allegiance to these ratings. This list will change 20x over the next year as I adsorb it all, that's the beauty of Pixies:

    • @Friendo90
      @Friendo90 10 лет назад

      I've heard your same quote there from so many other Pixies fans over the years: That Gil Norton murders their songs, and it *is* a shame. I've always thought the same thing. It was all too apparent within the first :30 of "Doolittle" after such a raw, honest, no fuss production of Albini's "Surfer Rosa". Norton's good with whispy bands that are best not taking risks, and he makes them sound all alike. It's like putting Jeff Lynne behind the board of anyone... it's gunna have the sickly stench of Lynne-jizz all over it rather than the sweet sounds of the actual band.

      hahaha, wtf are you talking about?

    • @BRUNOAZIZ
      @BRUNOAZIZ 10 лет назад +1

      thebarrens overproduced, too clean....lots of boring reverb....some of the songs would sound better with a raw n louder procuction...i think....i'm a pixies fan, i'd rather hear new bad songs from them than no song at all...but i still think these tunes would be better with some rawness in it!....like the Sven Fngers Ep from Frank for example

    • @BRUNOAZIZ
      @BRUNOAZIZ 10 лет назад

      Friendo90 i kind like his job on the earlier records (can't beat Albini of course)...but here...you know...it seems so lazy...ful of this fucking reverb vocals....damn!...LOL.....but i still liking these new songs better than no songs at all.....Ring the bell gots that pop appeal...just like Greens and Blues...and what goes boom and blue eyed hexe got some raw power in it...Norton is just failling to bring it up! (sorry bout any mistake on the writing)...keep cool!

    • @Friendo90
      @Friendo90 10 лет назад +3

      Bruno Aziz Agree: new songs are better than no songs at all, and you slammed the nail on the head by making the production reference/correlation with the "Sven Fngers" EP!
      On a side note: A slew of the fans of old are, unfortunately, indignantly and somewhat vainly pining for "ye olde memories" of the 90s sound. (Get over yourselves, folks.) And, in that attitude of idle, they're so sadly missing out on sincerely listening and noticing some new things that are entirely rewarding. I admit that at first "listen" to EP-1 I was a little apprehensive, but by EP-2 I, simply, finally HEARD the Pixies. Lastly, having long foreseen and handled the age old pettiness of criticism ("Indie Cindy") I, for one, am grateful and favor that they aren't plagiarizing themselves! Amen.

  • @landondonovanify

    I'm such a massive Pixies fan, but all these EPs are so.......boring. The production makes them boring yes but I just don't know what to think, have they tried as hard as they could? Or have they settled for this generic more mainstream easier rock sound? Because you listen to something like Debaser or I've Been Tired or Tame, those songs are really rocking and just brilliant songs. Most of these new songs have none of the dynamic of the old stuff, they sound like crappy boring attempts at something vaguely resembling Pixies songs. The ones that have got closest are Bagboy and What Goes Boom which are the best two new songs they've produced, and by a long way and still not really up there with the old classics. Also why does Frank sing in that high pitched, "soothing", overly produced melodic way so much on these songs? What the hell? The Pixies don't do that! Frank, live you sound better screaming and plus he can still scream but he can't really sing live the way he does in these tracks like Ring The Bells.....so why do it in the first place?!!?! Arghhh Pixies whyyy.

      100% agree. I thought EP3 was awful until four listens in and I couldn't get the tunes out of my head. 'Another Toe in the Ocean' and 'Ring the Bell' - I think I'll pass on these eventually. But the rest of EPs 1,2&3 are superb in my opinion.

    • @landondonovanify
      @landondonovanify 10 лет назад

      not growing on me, if the EPs are superb, what does that make the old stuff?

    • @vladimirimp
      @vladimirimp 10 лет назад

      landondonovanify It's a shame you feel like that - it's what I was concerned about when they started releasing stuff. Fortunately I like most of it and think some tracks are superb. If you don't... well, thankfully all the old stuff is still there, and like the Star Wars prequels you might just have to pretend the new album doesn't exist.

  • @jimwalsh111
    @jimwalsh111 10 лет назад

    I really dislike this EP. The songs sound so dramatic and slow and there just isn't that classic Charles Thompson bite to it, that screachy preachy sound that always got me amped up. The other recent EPs have had a few good songs come out of them, like "blue eyed hexa". overall however EPs 1-3 are not very good and thats not just in comparison to their old music, im talking about in comparison to other music today of the same genre. Aside from a couple good songs these EPs are below average
