    I’ve been using only dumbbells only for 2 years of body part split training, and while it has been effective in keeping me somewhat active and in shape, I’m currently on phase 1 of anabolic and the use of barbells and other gym equipment is already making me feel bigger, even if it’s maybe just the feeling of getting stronger properly for once. Thanks for the great content, truly life changing for many

    I’ve had to take a significant amount of time off training because of some pretty nasty injuries. Broke my ribs twice In an 8 week period and on the second time I broke my ribs I also got a really bad concussion. After spending roughly 4 months being completely sedentary because of not being able to move I think I’m definitely gonna need to hit up the Prime pack. My ankle mobility is shot and my hips are tight af. Thanks for putting a program like that out there for someone like me who needs to loosen everything up before I get back into squatting and deadlifting. Without something like that I doubt I’d be able to get my mobility/flexibility back. I’ll definitely be hitting that up once I’ve got some $$$ saved up.

    Great information - thanks! For those of us who train at home, I think one additional advantage that dumbbells have over barbells is the initial investment cost. With barbells, not only will I need to get the bar and weight plates, I'd also have to invest in squat rack or power rack.

    This really helped me better understand what I'm missing from lacking DBs in my home gym. I've done my best to utilize different kinds of intensities and tempos to make up for that lack, which has been ok.
    But like you guys have been preaching for years, any new stimulus will promote growth. So it stands to reason that adding DBs to my gym, (albeit expensive in the short term...) will aid in my progress. Thank you!

  • @stefannikolovski3895
    @stefannikolovski3895 2 года назад

    The content you guys put out is amazing. I have been an athlete my whole life training tennis (and many other sports recreationally) with high intensity which led me to so many injuries.. All of my joints are somewhat difunctional as a result of me and my coaches not giving them the proper treatment (recovery, mobility work) after the injuries. So, I am enjoying hearing you guys promoting smart programing and taking care of clients/athletes health (fixing imbalances, deficiencies, improving mobility) since I have opposite experience with irresponsible coaching. Also your series on mobility and flexibility have been a great help in my journey to get my body back to normal, loosen up the rock solid tissues that formed around my joints as the body's defense mechanism to prevent me to move when injured and stop the chronic pain. I am constantly stumbling on some old jewels (videos) of yours and learning some new things. I really appreciate what you are doing and just keep on doing in.
    Also I would love to hear content targeted for experienced athletes even though I am well aware that the majority gym goers are of the recreational type...

    I wanted to make a quick comment on the weight you can do with DBs. I need to conserve space and ended up purchasing a really nice set of 80lb adjustable DBs. I quickly realized that Front squats were causing more strain on my shoulders and found an amazing addition. I purchased a 65lb weight vest, now I can comfortably squat 155 (which feels heavier than a barbell for some reason) .It doesnt work as well with the Deadlift but holding 80lbs per hand isnt that bad

I just got a barbell and have an adjustable bench and squat rack coming. After this episode I feel more confident where to use the barbell. It will be interesting to see how much I can deadlift and squat with the bar, my 45lb dumbbells have been difficult so I thought I was at my highest there.

    Love your guys channel. Been watching for about a month now after seeing in my recommendations and I’ve learned so much. Right now I’m 6 days post shoulder surgery so shooting my shot for prime so I can study in my off time to learn as much as I can. Overall I’m a barbell guy, mostly because my left shoulder has been an issue for about 10 years and the barbell always was easier to work with for me. Definitely gonna switch between both when I start working out again.

    Great chat, I've just purchased one good quality adjustable kettlebell. I love the way they feel. I currently use both adjustable dumbbells and a barbell. I'm looking forward to incorporating more kettlebell movements. I don't think I could pick between the three but if I had to choose it would be the barbell....perhaps because I can load it so much more and it's great for lunging, squats and deadlifting. But this debate is a reminder to me about how important they all are. Thanks again for sharing such awesome information.

    If I could only had 1 for life it would be dumbells. I won't get into which exercises you can use vs each other in most cases you can do the same with either. My the reason I'd go with dumbbells is the flexibility and range of motion. The flexibility of your movements is so beneficial especially when you have small injuries/pains. You can slightly tweak certain movements and grips to relieve pressure/pain that may be unavoidable with a bar! One other thing that I like is keeping things symmetrical! Dumbbells prevent you from strengthening one side vs the other and also avoids injuries that may be incurred by one side working harder than the other.

    I think dumbbells are best purely because of the stretch you get at the bottom. More research keeps coming out about stretch mediated hypertrophy and it is starting to surface that exercises that offer the best weighted stretch build more muscle. hence why heavy farmer walks build more trap muscle than strict shrugs.

    As for today's discussion topic. I feel much stronger at the gym moving around a barbell, so I like that feeling. However, from a home gym perspective, dumbbells definitely for the win as they just take up less space and you can modify the exercise to make them work for pretty much everything.

    Loved the episode fellas! I purchased MAPS Anabolic to help me get off the nail with my personal fitness and was pleased to see that you all took time to provide an "At Home Mod" that provides dumbbell alternatives. For someone who's rebounding from shoulder impingement, being able to get back into the groove of pressing by using dumbbells as opposed to barbells is an absolute game changer. I also picked up MAPS Prime to work on my Zone 1 mobility (Justin I dream of having your shoulder ROM). One area that I would love to hear the team's feedback on is in regards to hinging movements. I find that I get a better stretch with dumbbells when doing single leg or straight leg deadlifts but desire barbells for hip thrusts and conventional deads.

    • @abhinitadas9474
      @abhinitadas9474 2 года назад +1

      Hey how do you modify the barbell back squats with dumbbell??

    • @EvanMorsell
      @EvanMorsell 2 года назад

      @@abhinitadas9474 the recommended approach is to hold the dumbbells at your sides while maintaining thoracic extension, hinging at the hips before bending at the knees and getting a great stretch at the bottom of the eccentric portion of the lift. As mentioned by the team, the ability to load the movement can be limited by a few factors. It took me quite a bit of practice to learn the movement pattern; primarily because of my lack of thoracic mobility. MAPs prime has helped me gain the mobility to maintain an upright torso (when I'm consistent in implementing it) while maintaining depth (I like to keep an upright torso to prevent the feeling of toppling over). The experience of a DB squat and BB squat at the end of the day though simply are not the same but DBs beat bodyweight. I also like to implement TUT (Time Under Tension) approaches to DB squats being that I'm currently capped at 50lbs. A 5 second eccentric and concentric work wonders when using lighter weights.

    New lighting makes everything look more dramatic. Anyways I agree with pretty much all the points in this one. For me if I could only have one I'd go with barbells as I'm still trying to build lots of muscle.

    Excellent breakdown of both styles / tools 👍
    And interesting new video setup here. Darker background, video angle , mic sound, etc..
    New approach or did it just come out that way 🤔

    I've always preferred barbells, as a natural, simply for the load. With the barbell excersises I feel I actually work a large portion of my muscles in unity, I just feel those movements more atlethic.
