The people who are giving bad press to Colombia need to wake up. This is now one of the most progressive countries in Latin America. I visited a friend who is retired in Pereira and the average person in the USA has NO idea what they are missing by passing up Colombia as a vacation or retirement destination. Quit reading 20 year old news articles and step into the 21st century.

I paid for the cost of my vacation by having dental work done in Colombia. It saved me around 1500 dollars over the local price im the USA. Any American who wants quality dental work or plastic surgery needs to check out Colombia. You will save a bundle and eat great food at reasonable prices. Plus....about every third person you see down there looks like a movie star. LOL Need more reasons???

I got robbed at gunpoint in Medellin by two guys on a motorcycle. Came from behind us and the guy on the back jumped off and the driver pulled out a gun. It isn't as safe as people say. The thieves have the guns and you can't have one to protect yourself. Good luck depending on the lousy police there to help you. Bring an electric taser gun. Watch your pockets, watch your back at all times, watch who is watching you. Don't wear nice jewelry. Don't use your phone walking down the street or you will be an easy target.
