The new / international versions of Red and Blue came out in 1998, you are referring to Red and Green (the original versions of Red and Blue) Those came out in 1996.

I will never get over damn Pikachu being allowed to say its name as a cry. I don't care if its the mascot either every Pokemon says its name as a cry or no one does like its always been. >__
I feel the exact same way, it's cool to have a Pokemon says it's name in the game, but for the others. My Absol is stuck never saying it's name.
Pikachu gets to say its name because its name is the same across all regions. If every Pokemon got to call out their own names, that means having to pay every voice actor for every Pokemon for every available language.

I'm aware that the name is the same but why create the disparity now nearly 20 years later in the first place? Either step your budget up and dub them all or leave Pikachu alone until all can be dubbed. Its not as if Pikachu doesn't get enough love as is, it and its fans can survive not saying Pikachu name as its done so for years.

Evolution means a lot to me. I got a Bulbasaur as my starter pokemon. We battled all the way until he was an Ivysaur. I was in cerulean city. I gave Ivysaur to the caretaker. I then gave Ivysaur some rare candy. We needed 1 more level. I rememember the Ivysaur days very fondly. We battled until he was a Venusaur. I remember the evolution screen and being excited. Now, a Level 44 Venusaur leads ny pack as the strongest Pokemon. I hope you enjoyed my true story, and reply with your stories please.

The only issue I have with the newer ones is that you can't see what Pokemon it is in case you want to press B... in the case of a Hitmonlee/Hitmonchan kinda situation.
Daniel Brent There's actually a very very small window where you can see the silhouette and press B, but it's nearly impossible for you to react fast enough.

Ruby & Sapphire as well as Colosseum/XD are the best in my opionion.

There was nothing more perfect than the gen 3 evolutions. It actually showed your pokemon changing and transitioning into its new form in a magical way.
All the current gen evolutions are like "LOOK, your pokemon turned into a white sphere! Oh wow now it's different" I might as well close my eyes for ten seconds and look back to a new pokemon.
