There's nothing quite like UTMB week in Chamonix, France. After a two year hiatus, I was thrilled to be back in the French Alps - this time with my partner Hilary Matheson. We tackled the OCC 55K - one of UTMB's sister races in the days leading up to the flagship 100 mile race. This is a look behind the scenes in the week leading up to it and the journey of our OCC itself.

I’m so lucky that Chamonix is just over an hour from my front door…felt a lot of pain on those trails but I can’t stop going back…something about those mountains
Hey Billy, we spoke very briefly in Monkey Bar UTMB week in 2018 and was super inspired to take up Trail Running. Well things do escalate quickly and I did OCC this year also and super stoked to see your video drop on this beautiful and whilst short (in ultra terms) challenging course. Best wishes.

Although I’m not an ultrarunner, I am also a lover of the outdoor. I like to bag peaks and all I can say is that going through the paincave is such an intense experience. All sorts of emotions. Way to go Billy! Congrats to both of you. Also what a treat watching someone famous like you running our local trails (Eaton Canyon)

Billy you are a lucky guy she likes you. That was a wonderful film. Your films have inspired me to run my first long race at the end of next summer the 41 mile Grand Traverse point to point from Crested Butte to Aspen.

I specifically waited to watch this, and my gosh did it take me back. I loved it, so much. It was very real and a great peak into the pain cave as well as the highs. Thank you both for sharing these very vulnerable, intimate, and human moments with us all and allowing me and others to relive the experience from another point of view.
