I don’t think Nico did anything wrong at all.. He was camped out under the ball and heard PCA calling, and got out of the way. PCA and Seiya BOTH looked to be calling for the ball, then backed off for a half step not knowing if the others were backing off, and both came up an inch short. If you’re going to be screaming for the ball, you better go and get it.

Horner backed off to late. PCA had to back off too. PCA reaction to the ball was outstanding but to late.

I agree. My big thing is that Nico was settled under the ball with 2 outs. PCA should've recognized that and let Nico have it. There's no reason to have the CF charging in get it because he doesn't need to make a hard throw home to stop the run from coming in.

The fact that Horner could have got that ball kinda goes out the window when he realizes if he does try and catch the ball is going to have a nasty collision with pca …..so he lets pca have it…..and he should have had it ……pca’s fault 100%….

Now if we could teach them to hit to the opposite field that would be great
Home Runs are nice but that’s what gets you in a slump

Hi Mick, absolutely right! This wasn’t a pick up softball game where you are playing with guys you know for the first time…, for crying out loud! They all been playing together for months now, if the centerfielder calls the ball he takes it! No more discussion. Sieya needs to just DH, he scares me every time a ball is hit to him. If the Cubs should turn things around and miss the playoffs by one game, remember the poor defensive play on August 3rd. They need the Bull Durham shower speech. 😂🐻🧢💙

Twice Nico made the same mistake he was under the ball on those two plays. Mick, I’ve been a Cubs fan fir lore than 35 years. Couldn’t agree with yo more, this time. You made it a revelation I have been guessing fir a long time. There has to be a team which take care if the psychological part of this team. You said it all regarding Ripken Sr. I am thinking that major leaguers are not use ti have an outfielder like PCA he covers a lit of ground and is always near any ball in play in the outfield, just in case something happens. Thats the main readon Happ ans Seiya throw themselves to try plays they would not try in other cases, but they do, cause they know PCA is near there to help. I think Happ and Seiya are starting to get use to that and don’t get nervous having him near, but maybe it is not the case with Nico.

Mitch, I couldn't agree more about having "baseball guys" in the organization. Analytics has its place, but you have to have guys that have been around the game bc it's invaluable! Well said!

  • @Hunter-R-Hickey
    @Hunter-R-Hickey 2 месяца назад +1

Mick, you're right about the "Oriole Way." From 1958 to 1983, the Orioles were the winningest team in the Major Leagues. Analytics has ruined the game, and as long as number crunchers call the shots, we can expect to see more of what happened today continue.

This is what happens when the kids play…for PCA, it’s learning experience, plain and simple. When I first saw the PCA play, I couldn’t tell if Hoerner would have gotten to the ball anyway or if PCA lost the ball in the sun. Neither was the case…it was just PCA being too aggressive.
As far as the Suzuki dropped ball, he had the ball in his glove and the ball popped out when his arm slammed to the ground. Things like that happen too.
Hindsight is always 20/20 but split second decisions were made and they just didn’t work out.
    Tomorrow’s another day…move on!

Amazing. If that game ends with all factors being the same but with Morel playing 3rd, this would have been a rant about how bad Morel is. Love that morel is no longer the scapegoat for the Cubs. Amazing how Nico throw shade at Morel after trade.
All Chicago Media/Online blamed the cubs bad season on Morel. I think this game proves it. Barely a mention about the error at 3rd. 2-16 since trade. Yeah Cubs management sucks in development.

Completely on Nico. Pete was way too far out. Nico was aggressively out there first and put arms out. Also, I can’t understand why Paredes throws that damn ball. I’m shocked in Little league when I umpire, they throw the ball away all the time instead of just eating it. This is the bigs man. You gotta know when to hold it.

The Cubs are their own worst enemy. They beat themselves. I know they’re still in the hunt in the wild card. But because of blunders like this, and the constant underachieving, whether it be the bullpen blowing games and the hitters not hitting, I just don’t see them making the playoffs.

Hey mick, aren't these things stressed enough in spring training?why are we having this conversation this late in the season?the outfield coach should be stressing these basics in their preparation and pregame meetings. This should not happen. I was very hard on david ross but ross had these guys playing good defense.

Mick is absolutely right-r their any captains on this team? Too many mistakes w/out accountability- I’ve been disappointed with Counsel’s performance in many situations. Just doesn’t seem to have fire in his belly-you can’t give games away to the Cards. Where’s a John Lackey type character on this team-every Cub player should come out tomorrow ticked off!!!

  • @RodneyHennings

  • @CharlesJohn

To me, it looked like Nico Horner was right underneath the ball and PCA is running in calling him off the ball.
Nico was called off the ball, and got out out of the way because PCA was calling him off. He didn’t want a collision. That’s the way it looks to me anyway.
Seems to me like it was a rookie mistake and at that level there should be no rookie mistakes like that.
If PCA would’ve caught the ball, nobody word be talking about it except what an awesome catch that was. If he’s gonna call Nico off the ball like that, then he should catch the ball.
maybe it’ll humble PCA a little and make him a better player.

  • @evertonpakeman181

Mick i agree with you but these things should be stressed pregame..i think cliff floyd and that shortstop from years ago that played for the pirates name jack Wilson will be excellent teachers of the fundamentals of the game.
I believe jack wilson will make an excellent managet someday...he is very smart mick.

I have a question for you. Had the Cubs sold bigger and got rid of Taillon and Bellinger...possibly Hoerner. Would you still be saying there's a chance? You much like myself said we should be sellers ...but Jed didn't really sell much. For me that was a huge missed opportunity. So because we didn't really sell does that mean you all of a sudden are back to believing this team can make a run. I'm not trying to show you up it's just I don't feel the same way. I can't see this team making the playoffs...and I think Jed really screwed up this deadline.

  • @gabel4277

I think or hope that Counsell is going to fix this team, and I hope they can add a big bat. Bellinger could still be gone before 2025 opener

  • @chaslee2766

steele better and better? his best was couple starts ago, hopefully he reverts to that version rather than the last couple starts. We can never build on momentum.... when we can get that one that gets us rolling we lose like did tonight or just get molly whopped unfortunately. ( d backs series the giants game where neris gave up the 3 run bomb one of only 2 bad starts by imonaga against the mets and then against these cards losing both games of the double header ), our team doesnt have that one guy that can say just get to his spot in lineup late and he will come thru. Happ has some games where if he is only one he for sure wins/won us some games then immediately after went cold,,,, if dont have that one guy need a couple to be able to, Nico has started coming thru late more often and dont blow up my comp Dansby doing a little something... skeptic over here thinks its because they almost feel like they arent in the race as much so have nothing to lose vs feeling the pressure that every game is for playoff spot. I hope everyone on the team still believes playoffs this year is the goal no matter the outcome, if that isnt the case its an indictment on all levels of the organization, and Jed should have had a fire sale on any and all players teams would've have traded for.
*Big stage on Sunday Night Baseball with the ability to win, I think, first series vs NL central team all season (ugh how's that possible???) it'd show some postive signs of life that we will need against a very tough Cleveland team, (call it a Baltimore series 2,0 get the brooms out and we might just build ourselves into a force late still,,, Go Cubs)

  • @davidjones5301
    @davidjones5301 2 месяца назад

Jeter analogy doesn't work here. CF running in and calling for it gets it, period. Collision there could very easily turn into a serious injury with an extended IL stint. That's why the fundamentals are there to begin with. Once PCA called for it, it's his.
