The microphones, at least in my listening, sounded better on the Sony's. It may have had more background noise, but the vocals were louder, and never became inaudible, whereas the Bose were noticably quieter (likely to supress the background noises), and even if they sounded clearer, 9 times out of 10 I'd take the Sony's
I debated for weeks which of these two to get and chose the QC45. Comfort was priority #1 for me and after testing both in store the QC45 was marginally more comfortable to me. Not to say the XM4's were not comfortable by any means but the QC45's for my ears were tops. As far as sound quality goes I also preferred the QC45. I like the overall sound profile and emphasis on the mids and highs. Some people complain of lack of bass on the QC45s but to me it really wasn't an issue.

I think the cabin pressure goes away when you are in an actual flight. I think Bose has airplane mode in mind when they design these their headphones. Whereares Sony is for general uses. I do find the Bose QC 45 is quieter for plane cabin test. I don't know if you fly a lot, but you do, check out the Bose QC earbuds too. these little guys are incredible for their size. They gives you a very pleasant sonic ANC in plane cabins, even better than my Airpods Max - not quieter just very pleasant sounding when you don't play music or movie.
While I noticed that the Bose cut out more outside sound on a call, it was also noticably quieter. The Sony gave more outside noise on a call, but also was easier to hear the speaker.
I’ve noticed this with these guys. They keep saying the Sony is rubbish on calls but I keep hearing them better than the Bose because of what you say. Thanks for the awesome video! 2 cents on the noise cancellation comparison - since it is hard to judge the difference between performance by just listening to the recordings, may be a graph of the recorded decibels in the end will help. Graphs are much easier to understand for such a comparison. Few other observations about Sony - the earcups do get hot since there is very less space between internal padding and ears. 2. You can wear QC for hours and forget that they are really there - I think the comfort and simplicity aspect of Bose is under-valued. :)

Owning the NC700, the QC25 and QC35 ii already, I decided to try the Sony --XM4 when I found it on sale for Black Friday at around $229 at Best Buy. Didn't open the box for at least 10 days, before putting in time to try them out. NOPE! The setup was fine, although the earcup pressure on my head was definitely stronger than the Bose. But it was the controls, or should I say the lack of consistent functionality of the controls, that made me pack them back up. I watch the setup videos and read the manual thoroughly, acting all of the relevant features in the app. BUT! I couldn't get the swipe controls for advancing tracks to work at all. I could only get the swipe up and down on the earcup function for volume control to work less than 10% of the time. I did like the increase bass from the Sony ...XM4's. But with the NC700 touch control, which have worked flawlessly, I was not willing to handle the disfunction of the Sony ...XM4's. Fortunately by waiting a few days after Black Friday, the new Bose QC45's went on sale in the White Color, at Best Buy. So I swapped the XM4's for the Bose QC45's. Can't really tell the tonal difference between the QC45's and the QC35 ii's. BUT! I wanted the QC45, because they had the USB-C charging port, which is better when I'm traveling because one charging can be used for my phone, my tablet and now my headphones. Yes, I know the NC700's have USB-C. However, I use them specifically attached to my stereo system in the house. So NC700-house usage QC35ii-out and about, they stay in the car. QC45-primarily for travel. So although I don't consider myself a brand loyalist. In the case of Bose, they work and they continue working.
I just discovered you guys and this comparison review is great! I have a pair of Sony XM4's and they're great all around ANC headphones. The transparency mode is great as well because I use them at work when a coworker wants to talk to me while I'm listening to music and I can still listen to my music and have a conversation without taking my headphones off. My only gripe would be the touch controls which can be finicky. They seem to work when they feel like working or they work when you accidently touch the cup which can be annoying. Other than that, the headphones are great.
Nice channel. Nice review. The call quality seems better on the Bose but a bit less loud. I agree, the Sony's sound very bad without EQ-ing. I like the sound of the Bose more. I like the little touch for the Dutch words, but but but I only don't get why. I know them all 😉
This is the best review I’ve ever watched, not only I learned about the differences and sound test, I also learned new dutch words. Oh and you guys are so funny 😂
Just got mine yesterday in Midnight Blue. Glad I purchased this headset and if anyone really wants to hear how really impressive they are, do the following. Set your 5 band EQ to the following: 400 Set to +10 1k Set to 3 bars below 2.5k Set to 3 bars below 6.3k Set to 3 bars up 16k Set to +10 Clear Bass - Set to +10 Then pull up a Dolby Atmos sample in RUclips set to 4k Quality and prepare to get blown away.
XM4 EQ: +7 +4 +7 +4 +7 Clear bass: +10 Listening to Extreme's "More Than Words" and that soundstage sounds killer like I'm watching them live at the Hollywood Bowl.
I tested the xm4 and QC45s in store and I prefered the QCs by a lot. Good to know the xm4s are able to be EQ'd, because the default in store was God awful, while the QCs were perfect. Using them mostly for podcasts anyway, which I hear the QCs are great for!
eh I've been using xm4s since they were released and before that xm3s and trust me when I got them out of the box the sound was amazing by default for me
@@devansh9437 I'm gonna be honest, the default sound is really bad once you start messing around with the equaliser. It's so much better when you use the equaliser. Sony's default sound is pretty rubbish tbh. There's cheaper headphones that sound better than the Sony's on the default setting.
@@dharambasi1928 could be different for you but for me the default sound was appreciable i just had to tweak the Equalizer a little bit and then it was perfect
First video I've seen from you guys and subscribed immediately! Really great job and fun to watch. Regarding the 2 headphones - I actually purchased both of these in the past month, knowing full well that I would be returning one of them. I actually made the return today. It was a very difficult choice because I loved both, but I actually returned the XM4's.. There were so many things I loved about them - the feature of pausing then you take them off or when you start speaking; the 'put your right hand over the earcup' option; the slightly nicer case the more sturdy build quality, etc. But in the end - I just preferred the sound of the the QC45's more (for my ears, at least) and they were slightly more comfortable for me. Again, incredibly difficult choice and I'm anxious to see what Sony offers with the XM5's
I'm all about comfort when it comes to headphones. Anything you pick in this price bracket is going to sound good. To that end, BOSE QC45 fit the bill perfectly. I know there's an app, but honestly, I just want to switch them on and go. The more crap to mess about with, the more you mess and find yourself more focussed on that than actually caring about what actually matters.
I absolutely love this, cuz I was just thinking I should hit up your guys channel again, (cuz I’m looking to buy the xm4s but I wanna be sure) and I clicked on this video by accident and here you guys are! Love it!
@@iamvarun96 it’s a good question, except no one is sure when they’ll come out, I waited for the over six months for apple to release newer AirPods, they didn’t, I got the pros, love them, and later apple released the airpod 3 and I’m still super happy I have my pros. It’s not the exact comparison. But I’m saying, sometimes it’s better to just get it when you want it, rather than wait super long for something slightly, if at all better 🤷🏻♀️
Im super confused. I bought the XM4 and have been testing them for two weeks and compared them with the QC45 in an electronics store (yes they may be a bit "worn in" but they seem ok) The XM4 definetly feel much tighter and my ears feel too warm and sweaty after 2 hours work.... Anyone had similar experiences? Almost forgot, the ear detection is also quite annoying, because if I take them off for a second they change my device audio to speaker mode and I always need to change it, whats the point ? Just makes it more complicated for me. Planning on returning my XM4
I was so sure that the XM4's would win but I was shocked how well the QC45's did. I just hope Sony comes out with some new stuff soon, like WF & WH XM5 or a new product with a better name lol.
It is clear the Sony MX4 is the winner. On your mic test Sony is louder and clearer than the Bose Q45. The EQ makes Sony sound quality close to the airpods max. If you EQ it right. I do think Bose still wins comfort test. The dynamics between the both you is awesome and fun to watch. You just earned a new subscriber.
BRO I THINK That guy in black shirt Talk shit sometimes Bose Sound shit poop we know that. Your Preference I Salute for choosing M4. They are the best sound.
I don’t know know where you guys are located but I think some colours options might be exclusive to some countries. Here in Canada I saw a navy blue Sony xm4 version and I had no idea the white version existed before watching this video. Good review, just one thing If you know you are going to sing just place two fingers on the right ear cup and speak to chat will instantly turn off. Do the same thing to switch it back on. I can’t speak for Bose. But I have the Sony and I love them and all of their really useful extra features. Best headphones I’ve ever owned and it’s not even close. You can’t go wrong with them.
Great video. I own the QC45 and love it, but I can certainly understand why you would prefer and recommend the Sony. I like "the Bose sound" (go pound sand, Audiophiles, I don't care about you), and the simplicity. I have always thought that Bose is slightly better for noise cancellation, and Sony is a bit better for pure sound quality. Ultimately, the consumer has to decide what's best for themselves. Take care!
The XM3s sounded terrible to me and I returned them. Got the XM4s and the sound tuning is much more refined. I'm sure vs the Bose is personal prefrence.
Like the sound of xm4, but i think qc45 has better build quality, i have xm2 and xm3, and i think xm4 still having that creaks sound after some time of use, it doesnt break, just creaks, sometimes on the left hinge, sometimes on the right, i think if you want to buy xm4 5 6 7 or even 8 later, you gotta live with it
As a musician who works a lot with sound Bose are amazing there is no reason to be surprised. Bose, Sennheiser, audio Technica they are a companies that sole focused on sound (headphones, microphones, etc) so there is no reason to be surprised why they are so good at sound.
Well i have the first gen x1000 and i had no issues with touches gestures untill now, even though its surface scratched and peeled, i guess now is the time to get upgrade.
I own both these headsets and if you made me choose one of them, it would be the Bose. I think if you wanted a headset purely for music the Sony's might just edge out but I use mine for music as well as for work calls. I find if there is any background noise when using the Sony's then they are almost unusable and nobody on the call can hear me (like road noise while in a car), but the Bose seems to handle background noise a LOT better, I also find the Bose a little more comfortable. I like both but if I had to only have one it would still be the Bose.
Thanks for your review. I researched and read reviews for these headphones before I made my purchase. I read the Bose sounded tinny with no bass, so I agonized over that. I didn't see this video and I am glad because I purchased the Bose. They have enough bass for me, are very comfortable, and wow do they cancel out noise.
Wonderful review. All of the Sony advantages go away because of the build quality and customer support. The WM4's always break at the yoke. It's not if, it's when. And it's always in the same exact place. Then when you call Sony customer service, it's a master lesson in rudeness. Bose customer service is spectacular. They respect their customers and will always replace a product when it's well out of warranty.
I will buy and try QC45 - my XM4s are ok but are super uncomfortable for my head - my old XM1 does much better job fitting my head. I did try also bose700 and they ware terrible in every single category compered to XM4 - I hated them and at the end of the week returned. I hope that QC45 will be better - similar sound to sony for better comfort and I'm good, I use them most of the time for podcasts and to cancel mcdonald childrens orgy.
I have Sony XM3's and i would definitely add some power to the noise cancelling. Also, after 1 year of use, the earcups are worn to the level, that i can hear all the surroundings + everything else inc low noises like moving the pillow, changing position on sofa, lifting my hand from PC mouse even etc. Sound Quality is great, but ANC is a bit of "whatever". It's just there boosting the little extra that even the cups itself filter while off. But for Pros: When your ears are sweat enough ( becouse the padding gets hot ), its easy to clean your ear canals. Haha :D,. maybe i just have good hearing. If Bose is like Sony, the whole ANC is a bit diva thingie. It does a little, but so does the earcups by itself. Looking for powerful noise cancelling since its tough to use earplugs day n night where i live.
I think the QC45 sound very thin and the sound lacks body. I doubt whether this is only due to the exaggerated treble. Even the 700 sound fuller and more punchy in comparison. I'm not a fan of the Sonys sound, but I would definitely take the XM4 with some custom EQ or the 700 over the QC45 in the sound department.
Hello brothers. First of all hats off to your unique way of presenting such tech reviews. You have earned a genuine subscriber. I have a query with respect sony noise cancellation. I am student and was planning to get sony mx4/mx3 soley for the purpose of studying. Since i need almost pin drop silence for studying i thought the noise cancelling feature would help a lot in putting down the noise level around me. I have also heard that using noise cancellation for longer period of time causes headaches. My study duration is almost 12 hours a day due to coming examination. Can you guide me whether i should go for it. ?
We would not recommend using these headphones for 12 hours a day! Noise cancelling doesn't eliminate all sounds, but most sounds, so best to have clear expectations. :)
Bose QC45 no question there, Sony headphones are always too bassy and tuning is not defined enough in the highs. If you are a bass head = Sony, if you like a balanced sound = Bose
When testing new headphones can you please test them in windy conditions, walking e.g through the park, office conditions and workout conditions such as running
Is it only me that I feel like Sony WH-1000XM4 sounds hollow? I am going to buy new headphone and having diffifult time chooosing XM4 or QC45. I currently own Bose QC35ii, and tried QC45 and XM4 in store. Everyone on youtube says XM4 sounds really good and they sounds better than Bose QC headphones. I agree that XM4 does have really good sound quality, but when u starts listening to music with XM4, their base is too strong that it kills details of mids and high, and overall the music sounds hollow and muddy. Don't get me wrong. Although I own Bose headphone, I like base and i do have high quality $200 wired earphone. The wired earphone sounds really great, base is trembling while mids and high sounds good. So to me, XM4 sounds fine, but not great. I want XM4 features, but I can't bear listening music on XM4.
I am using Bose QC 45, and many people said the noise canceling is not so good. I am not sure about it, will get a Sony WH-1000XM4 this weekend to do a comparison.
update: sony xm4 is VERY hard to connect: failed to connect with iphone SE 3 and dell laptop. (connected to xiaomi phone, sound quality okay). with bose qc 45 i have no bluetooth connection issue, but for this sony, I have tried 1 hour, link to iphone failed; linked to dell laptop (as other device), no sound... Touch volume sensor is too slow and not responsive compared to Bose volume button which is simple and quick.
compare this on store and finally pick xm4 from 2 reasons. First the ear cup fit to my ears, I feel more comfortable. Second, I like impact bass from xm4(qc45 too bright for me). however qc45 look good on design. Xm4 touch function so annoying, i turn it off and use only manual ctrl.
So bose did software update gymcady tested and apparently the noise cancelling gotten even better and clearly above the xm4 and bose 700. Also the addy an equalizer too
Please, one recomendention: I know the QC35 II have a more flat sound than the QC45 and the 700, I just wanna know which of them have a better sound definition and instruments separation
Honest opinion - truly amazing headphones but don’t bother upgrading. There’s literally no difference between these and the QC15 (which came out 10 years ago). BUYERS BEWARE: these headphones don’t work with ps5 - wired connection only and only work with NC turned off (which offers lesser quality audio). I would only suggest buying these to people who don’t already own a Bose headset.
Never get nothing white theme color things stain and turn yellow over time. always go with the black color. I made that mistake with my wf1000xm4 lol because they were the white color now showing up a little yellow even the case

So
NC700-house usage
QC35ii-out and about, they stay in the car.
I know them all 😉
I was having the hardest time debating between the two headphones. Thank you so much for this video!!!
Set your 5 band EQ to the following:
400 Set to +10
1k Set to 3 bars below
2.5k Set to 3 bars below
6.3k Set to 3 bars up
16k Set to +10
Clear Bass - Set to +10
Then pull up a Dolby Atmos sample in RUclips set to 4k Quality and prepare to get blown away.
how are they holding up?
@@groundingtiming Very well. I absolutely love them.
QC45 or MX4’s?
@@adr3510 I still would go with the XM4s. With all the updates that Sony has done, it has been such an excellent BTNC headsets.
XM4 EQ: +7 +4 +7 +4 +7
Clear bass: +10
Listening to Extreme's "More Than Words" and that soundstage sounds killer like I'm watching them live at the Hollywood Bowl.
All I needed to know before buying Bose QC 45! Also, nice editing and review - you two guys do a great job at reviewing :-)
Thank you, Tommy!
Thank you very much for the review comparison. Especially the time points. Everything was very clear. Helped a lot
I appreciate you sharing this video. The two headphones still have me torn. Thank you again!
You’re welcome Graydon!
@@devansh9437 but for me the stock sound was kinda trash. After EQ they sound amazing
You must have bad hearing then cause the Sonys are perfect
Love it!
Cheers Yosef!
Idk I'm really confused whether to go ahead and get the XM4s or wait for the XM5s
It's only a matter of time until you guys start getting huge numbers of subscribers
Thanks Kwadwo
Im super confused.
I bought the XM4 and have been testing them for two weeks and compared them with the QC45 in an electronics store (yes they may be a bit "worn in" but they seem ok)
The XM4 definetly feel much tighter and my ears feel too warm and sweaty after 2 hours work.... Anyone had similar experiences?
Almost forgot, the ear detection is also quite annoying, because if I take them off for a second they change my device audio to speaker mode and I always need to change it, whats the point ? Just makes it more complicated for me.
Planning on returning my XM4
I haven't experienced any of these issues with mine work flawlessly
insanely helpful and honest review
I was so sure that the XM4's would win but I was shocked how well the QC45's did. I just hope Sony comes out with some new stuff soon, like WF & WH XM5 or a new product with a better name lol.
The WTF and WTH? 🤣
They’re biased. I’ve owned both and the Sony’s kill the bose
@@christopherhammontree3222 so have I, along with PXC550s. Bose are the best bar none. It's personal preference.
I have the XM4 personally and just gave my gf the QC45s today as her first pair of headphones
Not sure who's luckier: you or your girlfriend 😉
So you didn't buy her a new pair then? Cheapskate.
which one do yall prefer
@@X22GJP I bought her QC45s, the newest Bose.
@@kellylu6217 maybe the bose, less boomy bass

You guys new to an update to this. Since software update a lot has gotten better with bose qc 45 better nc then xm5
Listening to this on my BOSE QC 45
It is clear the Sony MX4 is the winner. On your mic test Sony is louder and clearer than the Bose Q45. The EQ makes Sony sound quality close to the airpods max. If you EQ it right. I do think Bose still wins comfort test. The dynamics between the both you is awesome and fun to watch. You just earned a new subscriber.
Thanks mate. Appreciate the comment!
BRO I THINK That guy in black shirt Talk shit sometimes Bose Sound shit poop we know that. Your Preference I Salute for choosing M4. They are the best sound.
You guys are great! First vid of yours I've seen
Best review video I've ever seen 💯 seriously appreciate the details!!!
Thank you!🙏
I don’t know know where you guys are located but I think some colours options might be exclusive to some countries.
Take care!
DMS likes his qc35 iis, he likes them better than the xm4s for noise canceling headphones.
The XM3s sounded terrible to me and I returned them. Got the XM4s and the sound tuning is much more refined. I'm sure vs the Bose is personal prefrence.
You two are really funny, thank you!! 😂 very refreshing for a tech comparison video
Cheers Laura, glad you enjoyed!
Bose for better comfort and call quality
Sony for better sound quality via customization and better anc features.
Like the sound of xm4, but i think qc45 has better build quality, i have xm2 and xm3, and i think xm4 still having that creaks sound after some time of use, it doesnt break, just creaks, sometimes on the left hinge, sometimes on the right, i think if you want to buy xm4 5 6 7 or even 8 later, you gotta live with it
Nice review! But I thought u were gonna say: Pop-pop popsicle, Ice-ice icicle, test-test.. Testicle? LOL
At 5M subs! :P
As a musician who works a lot with sound Bose are amazing there is no reason to be surprised. Bose, Sennheiser, audio Technica they are a companies that sole focused on sound (headphones, microphones, etc) so there is no reason to be surprised why they are so good at sound.
If you are a musician then you should know that sony has better sound quality
Yuuuppppp @@zelestria8847

That was an awesome review and comparison! Liked it a lot, you are cool, guys!
Thank you Ilya!
Well i have the first gen x1000 and i had no issues with touches gestures untill now, even though its surface scratched and peeled, i guess now is the time to get upgrade.
Just ordered the QC45's! Thankyou for the comparison.
The mic test clearly favors Sony with much clearer and audible voice. I don't know why you are claiming that Bose is better..
First things first - Pantera fan?
@@iamthecaptainnow546 No the Sony's sounded better. You ears clearly do not work well.
Great review and personalities. Thanks!
I just want you guys to know that your channel is fcking brilliant!!! Top-notch, no BS review :)
Cheers Justin!
How the heck did you avoid saying testicle so many times?
I own both these headsets and if you made me choose one of them, it would be the Bose. I think if you wanted a headset purely for music the Sony's might just edge out but I use mine for music as well as for work calls. I find if there is any background noise when using the Sony's then they are almost unusable and nobody on the call can hear me (like road noise while in a car), but the Bose seems to handle background noise a LOT better, I also find the Bose a little more comfortable. I like both but if I had to only have one it would still be the Bose.
Bose is bad
Thanks for your review. I researched and read reviews for these headphones before I made my purchase. I read the Bose sounded tinny with no bass, so I agonized over that. I didn't see this video and I am glad because I purchased the Bose. They have enough bass for me, are very comfortable, and wow do they cancel out noise.
@@zoteck9177 well thought out feedback
Same here, I own both of them and if I need to choose only one, I'll choose Bose.
Sony hast broke at the yolks since the xm2
Bose QuietComfort 45 is.too good and very comfortable and light weight and updated
Sony for sound, Bose for comfort.
To cancel a McDonald's what? 👀
Huh
Very confusing since i am dutch, love the words in between the sentences tho! Keep up the great work
Graag gedaan Yara. 😬
Wow! What a review! you guys rocks! ;)
700 clamp force makes them uncomfortable after time for me.
The Sony connect app have a very nice EQ to the XM4. There sounding great after using that.
Thank you for the video!
Bose QC45 no question there, Sony headphones are always too bassy and tuning is not defined enough in the highs. If you are a bass head = Sony, if you like a balanced sound = Bose
But... They both have eq adjusts
When testing new headphones can you please test them in windy conditions, walking e.g through the park, office conditions and workout conditions such as running
Namaste 🙏 another awesome review !
Thank you Kiano!
There is a clear winner! I really curious about the Bose and the Jabra 7 pro. Is it an idea to make a comparison video? 😄😄
Hey DHRME, when u are going to compare QC45 with the Airpods Max.
I am requesting you from a very long time; (if you remember)
Pleaseeeee......!!
why did my brain hear 'test test testicle'

I love my _WH1000XM4'S._
Another great video, thanks guys!
Own the XM4. Absolutely love it. Worth every penny.
Great video xD
Good choice - enjoy them!
Why didn't you go with qc45?
00:36 - it sounds like he says can not and not can connect. LOL.
I found the QC45 a bit better, but it may only be me.

@@gymchaIk Thank you for your response!!
Which one do you think has a stronger ANC?
@@persiathiest1963 I’m pretty sure XM4s have better ANC
@4:50 thank you! Someone finally said it. I was so disappointed when i listened to it right away. I also prefer a more crisp sound and not too bassy.
compare this on store and finally pick xm4 from 2 reasons.
Also the addy an equalizer too
Please, one recomendention:
I know the QC35 II have a more flat sound than the QC45 and the 700, I just wanna know which of them have a better sound definition and instruments separation
I bought the XM4 and with tidal is the winner option.
Amazing, y’all actually help
Love it, please do more! Namaste
We've been doing a LOT more! 🙂
BRO ur beard is sick! ❤
Beware. Im addicted to these guys now and still cant decide for a headphone for a month 😂 thanks guys
We're You're very very sorry welcome
I prefer the qc 45 any day over the Sony! Just bought them yesterday!
Why?
Because?
Honest opinion - truly amazing headphones but don’t bother upgrading. There’s literally no difference between these and the QC15 (which came out 10 years ago). BUYERS BEWARE: these headphones don’t work with ps5 - wired connection only and only work with NC turned off (which offers lesser quality audio). I would only suggest buying these to people who don’t already own a Bose headset.
Hiiii!!! Great review but could you update with the new Bose 3-band equaliser please? Also, could you do it today please 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
Noise canceling much better on the Bose QC imo. How can you not hear that??
Never get nothing white theme color things stain and turn yellow over time. always go with the black color. I made that mistake with my wf1000xm4 lol because they were the white color now showing up a little yellow even the case
