I love seeing people's amazement when they listen to Floyd songs for the first time and the good thing is it gets better every time you hear it :-) :-) :-) :-)
Cuddly Uncle Dave - destroying minds and stealing souls since 1968. The man is unearthly with a guitar in his hands and a damn fine human being in all respects. I was privileged to be there the night they recorded this and I've never been quite the same. What you don't get from the video is how loud it was. Every note from David's guitar reverberated through your body, Nicks drums pounded through your bones, Rick's keyboards shimmered across your soul and the lights were blinding. It was like being suspended in space, held up by the music. I've said this before, but when we left, the crowd was almost completely silent. What we'd just witnessed was so overwhelming that you couldn't think or speak. Lots of people were in tears, including me. Everyone was just stunned, standing around with a "WTF just happened?" look in their eyes. Nobody has come close to what the Floyd achieved on that tour and I honestly don't think anyone ever will. It was a truly religious experience.
Yours is the best concert experience review that I’ve ever read. EVER. My most remembered concert experience was seeing Jimi Hendrix at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston in 1968. I was just a young punk then, but we ended up with pretty good seats on the floor (I don’t remember how). I’ll always remember Jimi running onto the stage wearing a black bodysuit which had silver sequins running up and down his arm sleeves and pants legs, and a white headband. We punks could only stare in awe at the epitome of cool standing before our very eyes. Of course, Jimi just tore down the stage. It was only the 2nd concert I’d ever been to.
I saw this tour in Indianapolis. We were in the fourth row and it was the most intense experience of my life. You're correct that the music and lights had a physical impact that I've never experience before or since.
@@jareczek1980 No, I did not. I saw both the Momentary lapse of Reason tour (Los Angeles in '87) and the Division Bell tour ( Indianapolis in '94). In LA our seats were terrible and the frat boys sitting behind us whooped and whistled loudly the entire show. Not a good time. For the Indy show we had great seats, the sound was amazing and the crowd was into it.
I saw them 3 times in 94. Pittsburgh and Toronto 2 times. I’ve liked them since 1970. I love watching you young folks reactions to Pink Floyd. Warms my heart. They actually got their name from 2 black musicians they enjoyed. The last name of one was Pink and the first name of the other was Floyd. Thus Pink Floyd.
It does my heart good to see a young man enjoy my generations music. Because one doesn't merely listen to Pink Floyd. One EXPERIENCES Pink Floyd. Welcome aboard.
Ngl, I'm 29 years old now. Never ever hears a song from pink floyd in my life, but after I heard this song, this performance, I literally bought myself an electric guitar. I've never played any instrument in my life before. But it was David Gilmour, that made me buy a guitar 😅
David Gilmour is my favorite guitarist. He plays with so much intensity and soul. I saw him in concert as a solo act in 2016. He was 70 years old at the time and still sounded amazing. He played a lot of Pink Floyd classics such as this song, and some music from his solo albums, as well. If you want to get more awesome Gilmour guitar solos, I suggest checking out 'Sorrow' from the Pulse concert, as well as the live version of 'On the Turning Away' from the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour. Both feature epic solos.
One of the best ways I’ve heard it said was: Leo Fender gave the world the Stratocaster, David Gilmour gave it a soul. These two solos are some of the best pieces of rock music ever played.
I saw this tour in 1994. Drove from Oregon to Vancouver Canada. Nothing has compared to this since. The light show was amazing and the sound just enveloped you. I will never forget it.
Pink Floyd live is a true audio-visual experience. I can only imagine you at a Pink Floyd concert with your eyes closed…or maybe with your eyes open but with earplugs to block out the sound. Seriously, please WATCH and listen to this again to appreciate this outstanding live performance.
I saw PF 3 times in the late 70's and early 80's and there show was the most amazing spectacle i have ever experienced at a concert and I've been to at least 100.
I saw that show on 6th of august '94 i Basel/switzerland. I can tell you it was like an out of body experience. A ride in an other dimension. The best gig i have seen EVER. I saw many concerts by a lot of great bands, but this was the peak of the mountain. I consider myself a lucky guy, that i had the chance to see them live.
I have seen that video so may times and David Gilmore's solo at the end never fails to blow me away. LIke every single time. It's the most amazing thing i've ever heard!
I was fortunate to see Pink Floyd not once but twice way back in 1988 and 1989 during their Delicate Sound of Thunder tour. A Pink Floyd concert cannot be explained but must be experienced. The show, the musicians, the lights and all is in my opinion one of the greatest if not the greatest shows of all time. Certainly in my lifetime.
Saw them in 1994 in Basel, Switzerland. Besides the visuals, people often forget the quality of the sound you had in Pink Floyd concerts. Pink Floyd did the world's first surround sound concerts. You had speakers all around the stadium and the middle of the pitch. It was the best concert in my life !
Thank you so much for reacting to this. I was in high school when this song first came out in 1979. I remember it well. My girlfriend and I at the time loved attending concerts. It was one of the things we loved doing together. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I can not describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young then. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was more carefree, and the music was spectacular. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.
1st time listener because i saw the song you were doing... looking forward to seeing your reaction... i saw this show at Giants Stadium & Veterans Stadium down in Philly... Floyd forever
It makes perfect sense. I saw them in 86, and you nailed it. Pink Floyd is the platform that David Gilmour soars above like a god. He set the gold standard for guitar for me. His playing is transcendent. I don't really understand spirituality. I'm not sure what it means. But that solo and a few of his others give me a good idea. It's been 37 years, and that solo still gives me chills.
Still have my ticket stub from seeing pink floyd in February 1977 in Munich Germany while in the army. I've been to a lot of great concerts including California Jam 1 and this is the only ticket stub I've kept for some 45yrs.
Great review, welcome to Pink Floyd rabbit hole! Just fyi, that guitar solo has now been named #1 guitar solo in rock history! I am one of the lucky ones to have seen David do it twice and still concerts I remember vividly to this day! Doesn't get any better than Pink Floyd!
Saw this tour in Toronto, Ontario at the old Exhibition Stadium. 10th row, floor seats. Sound and lights were phenomenal, easily one of the best shows I've ever seen.
Ha Ha. I was going to say, if you go down that Rabbit Hole, but then you said it. I'm telling 'ya, you'll never be the same, Daddy-O. WE ALL know what you mean, when you say it "took over your body".
I saw The Division Bell tour at the Sunbowl in El Paso. What an amazing show. You see the light show in this video but to experience that live with the music, it was like an acid free acid trip. Truly, the best concert I ever went to.
I went to a Pink Floyd concert in 1987. Best concert I've ever been to in my life. Even blew away Rock am Ring in 1985 with 18 different bands over the course of 2 days and Monsters of Rock in 1984 with 7 different bands.
you dont close your eyes at pink floyd show seen them in celmson sc blew my mind air planes crashing pigs floating in the sky and what you saw now o and great rock and roll
I went to their Momentary Lapse of Reason tour in 88, best concert I've been to bar none. It was outside and it was getting foggy, and the light show was spectacular and of course the music put's it all together. I would have loved to go to their last tour, but I couldn't get time off.
I first saw Pink Floyd in 1973, in Tampa, and 3 more times in Atlanta, the last in 1979. We were tripping each time ,so it was kinda beyond realistic, but very laid back.
I had the chance to see this show two nights in a row during their visit to the Olympic Stadium in Montreal on May 23 and 24, 1994. Since I worked night shifts, I had to go to work after the show, and the buddies at work looked at me like I was high on drugs, yet I hadn't taken anything. With Pink Floyd, no need for drugs to get high, their music is more than enough and in addition, there is no danger of overdose. But seeing them performing can become addictive, hence the reason for seeing this show twice. Take the time to watch the track: Pink Floyd - One Of These Days (PULSE Restored & Re-Edited). Not a lot of lyrics in this song, but a stunning sound and light show.
My friend, I was there at that concert. You're so right about Gilmores guitar solo. Comfortably Numb is my favourite tune of all time, this version that I was lucky enough to be present for is the best version, that guitar solo is the absolute best sound a guitar can make. Ever. Glad you've been introduced to it and you will seek out more Floyd.
I was sitting directly opposite the Giant Mirror Ball which came down from the ceiling on the left hand side looking towards the stage..Tripping off 100 mushrooms
Gotta agree with others, watching Pink Floyd with your eyes closed is like showing up a half hour late to the concert and spending all of your time on your cell phone instead of watching the show.....but then, that is what most people do now anyway isn't it? Not sure why they pay for tickets and ignore the visceral experience of being there.
When you get a chance, read up on the song or songs that you are going to listen to. There's so much to learn. Their songs can be very deep and have a lot of meaning
That's a David Gilmour guitar solo, no one expresses emotion through an electric guitar like Gilmour, he is the master of "feel" and emotion in his playing. The original studio recording of this song in 1979, on Pink Floyds "The Wall" album, is considered by many as the greatest Rock guitar solo ever! Pink Floyd is a Legendary British Rock Band formed in London in 1965, they are one of the GOATs in Rock Music,... and THE GOAT, in the "Progressive Rock" genre. They have sold over 300 million albums worldwide, and they've sold-out 90,000 seat venues consistently for over 3 decades! Pink Floyds music takes the listener on a journey, a cerebral journey, a trance like feeling. Some have said it's like an out of body experience. There's no band that has such an incredible catalog of masterpieces like PF, there's no band that can come close to the elaborate live performances PF put on every concert! If you're planning on going down the Pink Floyd rabbit hole, you're in for a great ride, with lots of likes, and subscriptions. Pink Floyd has a plethora of diehard fans, from today and the past 50 years! If you are going forward with PFs music, their "The Dark Side of the Moon" album from 1973 is a great place to start. One of the greatest Rock album of all time,... imo it IS the greatest Rock album of all time! It has sold over 50 million copies on its own, it gets universally high praise from Rock Music critics for decades. The album spent 962 weeks on Billboards Top 100 Selling Albums list of all time, that's over 18.5 years and a record that may never be equaled. The Artist in 2nd place is only around 500 weeks. The DSOTM album is a concept album like many of Floyd's albums, it tells a story and is meant to be listened to in full, in one sitting. The songs flow seamlessly from the end of one song, into the beginning of the next song. Lastly, the name Pink Floyd is the band's name, not a person's name. Pink Floyds roots are in Blues, like virtually every British Rock Band that came out of England in the 1960s. They took their name from two Ole' Time Blues guitarists from the early to mid 1900s. They are,... ... PINK Anderson, (1900 to 1974), and FLOYD Council, (1911 to 1976).
I saw them when I was 14 years old in a little club in London in 1968 in London, and again later at the same huge venue (Earls Court, London) as in this video in 1968, 20 years before this video, as they premiered 'Dark Side of the Moon'. It was one of the most memorable things I've ever seen/heard. In my humble opinion, they're one of the best, most innovative bands to come out of England, ever. When we all left the venue, there was a crazy lightshow playing on the clouds in the sky. Pink Floyd had paid the army to light it up with coloured searchlights.
Similar experience, First time was in the 60s when they were supporting Hendrix and The Move, cost me 10/6 lol. through to Wembley in the 80s, London Dockland, Knebworth and finally here at Earls Court.
I subscribed the second you showed up on camera...Good vibe you put out there my friend. I'm American, but live in Israel now. 🇮🇱 Just gonna say this. I'm 50 years old now. Going to a Pink Floyd concert wasn't just a concert...It was a blessing from G-d being alive to listen & see the EVENT that was before your eyes and ears. Shalom. 🖖✌️
I’ve seen this video many, many times but this is the first time I saw the child in the unfolded disco ball. It’s always ladies that say they saw a child in it, but I never did until this viewing. And finally, lo and behold, there it was. How strange.
So I was 1986 in Hannover and Hamburg, and what you never hear again, is the 100000 watt 5.1 surround PA System, you never see the two cablecars above us with the flying dancing pink Pig, the Plane , the Marrinonet etc....and the Battle between the Backroundsinger and david gets a little bit longer in the CN Solo ;)
The closest that I can come to this in concert was getting to see the Eagles on the "Hell Freezes Over" tour in like 1995 and it was incredible....this show had to be a freaking religious experience.
Twice - Momentary Lapse of Reason tour (Delicate Sound of Thunder) in high school in the balcony and Division Bell tour (Pulse) in my mid-20s on the main floor. Incomparably religious experiences, both!
Pink Floyd's concerts were full-on light & sound experiences. No-one has ever had gigs like them. This song originally had Roger Waters (singing the verses) and David Gilmour (singing the lush choruses and playing the GOAT lead break). The Pulse concerts were after Waters left the band. With or without him, it's phenomenal. A great Gilmour solo that many don't know about is on Warren Zevon's song "Run Straight Down" - well worth looking for.
This is the best live concert ever, from the best band ever. PF will be played like Mozart , & they have been in my life since my Dark side of the Moon poster was on my bedroom wall as a teenager , they will be played at my funeral ❤😌🙏
I've seen this concert in Montpellier in France... The best concert ever... I'm a real fan of Pink Floyd, but this concert was an amazing show, lights, strange things appearing all the time according to the track (warthogs for One Of These Days for example), and the best sound in the world. That was just magic, a pure magic moment. Thanks for your great reaction, very touching. Love from France 🇫🇷😘
My 2 favorite guitarists are David Gilmour and Mark Knopfler. This performance is one of my fav. And if you check out Marks performance in the song called Calling Elvis from DIRE STRAITS Live ON THE NIGHT 1993. It has so many little surprises with a guitar solo and a fantastic drum solo with 2 drummers ( 1 percussionist) and other unexpected surprises. Very entertaining. Cheers from Australia 🎸🎸🎸
everyone is totally impressed with Pink F. and now you too...there is a band that does Pink Floyd songs I dont know is they are stilil touring with Covid and all but they sound very close to the originals
🥰 Subbed for Pink Floyd! Catching up on your PF Reactions now! 😵💫 How I looked for 2 days after seeing this Concert in NJ at The Meadowlands. 🤔 Then again, how I left every Floyd/Gilmour or Waters shows I'd ever seen. 🤩 Floyd, Queen, Bowie, Who & more threw some awesome Concerts at Madison Square Garden. They would sell out so fast, you had no choice but go to NJ if you wanted to see them. 😁🐰
Hey, Risby. Very good tune to absorb Floyd through. "Captivating" is an excellent descriptive. I might suggest you check out a song called "She's Moved On" by a band called Porcupine Tree (album: Lightbulb Sun). Same kind of mellow intensity and the solo just keeps building to a point of frenzy without you even noticing. Same habit David Gilmour has. When you think it starts to get overwhelming, they have a way of amping it up another notch! Peace!
Ive always said that rhis video becomes a battle between the ears and the eyes... your ears win that battle lmaooo you should watch it again to really see the light effects
This performance was in the encore of the show - and they had already been playing for 2 HOURS by this time. I was there for 3 of the 15 nights they were there (including the night of this recording) and I still missed things. Maybe you should do a reaction to On The Run from the same concert. You do not listen to Pink Floyd - you EXPERIENCE Pink Floyd. You need to keep your eyes OPEN or you will miss so much. I would also strongly advise you to listen to the WHOLE of The Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here, each in ONE go and also Echoes (this is one song and 23 minutes!)
Now you've met David Gilmour and his guitar, and I'm not surprised you want more... Some other of his unbelievable guitar solos can be found in *"Shine On, You Crazy Diamond"* (in two parts, both are great), *"Dogs",* and *"Echoes"* (the only song I recommend the live version first, from the 1972 "Live in Pompeii" presentation --- they played the entire "concert" live, but with no audience other than technicians, in the ancient ruins of Pompeii, a Roman town destroyed by a volcanic eruption almost 2,000 years ago, and it's AWESOME!). Also "Wish You Were Here", in which David plays only ACOUSTIC guitar and it's just as amazing! But of course, Pink Floyd was more than just David Gilmour, and you ABSOLUTELY MUST listen to *"The Dark Side of the Moon".* No, it's not a song, it's an entire album, over 40 minutes long, but it's meant to be listened all at once. Yes, it is divided into songs, but they don't have half the impact when played in isolation. I assure you that it's a life-changing experience! It was not by chance that this album remained SEVENTEEN YEARS straight on the list of the 100 best-selling albums worldwide. A really historic, classic, extremely important and amazing album!
Dude, you understood one of the rules in listening to this: one does not interrupt a David Gilmour guitar solo with any comments or interruptions. Been to five PF shows (including the original “Wall” performance at Nassau Coliseum) and they have all been captivating in different ways.
Shame this was their last concert. Watch the whole concert you will not be disappointed. 200,000 watts of power, 128 wireless speakers. Disco ball is a BIG FU to music critics once said they will not sell cause they don't play dance music. saw 5 times and every time when the crowd left it was so quiet leaving . stunned what they just saw. This isn't even the last song " Run Like hell".also a must "sorrow" " High Hopes"
First Rule... You NEVER. close your eyes when reacting to Live Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd is a visual as well as musical experience. Their shows are highly choreographed performances between the lights lights and music.
I love seeing people's amazement when they listen to Floyd songs for the first time and the good thing is it gets better every time you hear it :-) :-) :-) :-)
Considered by many to be the greatest song ever written.

I bet you had such an awesome experience!
You'll love the studio version too!
I was there in 94 Earls court London best gig of my life
I saw that concert in Vancouver, BC in 1994. It was virtually a religious experience. I’ve never seen another concert like it.
Welcome to magic of Pink Floyd... You will be addict to them very soon.
50 years ago Pink Floyd were already 200 years ahead of everybody!
When you get a chance, read up on the song or songs that you are going to listen to. There's so much to learn. Their songs can be very deep and have a lot of meaning
Thank you Kenny. I will start doing that. There’s so much to learn.
yeah i was at this show in Miami at thee football stadium with 75000 of my closest freinds
"echoes" live in pompeii 1971/72
Saw this in 94 Tampa Florida
The best
You best watch the whole PULSE concert!!!! Will change your life forever dude!!!!!!!!!
Hi bro, I saw that concert in el paso tx. Sunbowl. 1995. It's was great.
My only experience involving a PF concert was the ticket I had to sell when I got unexpectedly deployed while in the Navy.😭
I should do a reaction of me listening to this version for the 1,786th time.
You're welcome!
Nice reaction (:
My 2 favorite guitarists are David Gilmour and Mark Knopfler. This performance is one of my fav. And if you check out Marks performance in the song called Calling Elvis from DIRE STRAITS Live ON THE NIGHT 1993. It has so many little surprises with a guitar solo and a fantastic drum solo with 2 drummers ( 1 percussionist) and other unexpected surprises. Very entertaining. Cheers from Australia 🎸🎸🎸
Pink Floyd introduced laser lights at concerts and surround sound to the world
Well, now you know!
everyone is totally impressed with Pink F. and now you too...there is a band that does Pink Floyd songs I dont know is they are stilil touring with Covid and all but they sound very close to the originals
That was one song in that concert.
You should react to Echoes from David Gilmour Live in Gdansk. I was at 2 shows of this tour...
You don’t listen to Pink Floyd, you feel them
We were drooling idiots for three days after this concert
If you want an even longer solo. Look for the original version. It is over a minute longer.
First Rule... You NEVER. close your eyes when reacting to Live Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd is a visual as well as musical experience. Their shows are highly choreographed performances between the lights lights and music.
Absolutely correct!!!
Jesus dont be that guy lol
Best thing to do is play pink floyd loud on vynal light a smoke lie back and close your eyes and listen 👂.
Open, close, open, c.....l......o.....s.....e......
You close your eyes when the music shakes your soul.. I understand his sentiment.
🔥🔥🔥
Want an experience? Do Atom Heart Mother Suite - you won't regret it. On par with Comfortably Numb. Seriously. From 1970.
So sad when that solo ends
