QuackieTv Since 1989 for us metalheads. Jethro Tull beating Metallica in the very first best metal performance Grammy is the biggest crock of shit in the history of the awards. As a result Metallica now wins every time they’re up for nomination.
Reijo P. Never accuse AJFA of being lazy. Poorly mixed, yes. Thanks to Lars. But it’s some of the most technical playing the band had ever committed to tape. I’m no fanboy, just a lover of heavy music, but credit where credit’s due. My point being that out of all the nominees for the Best Metal award in 1989, it was easily the most worthy. If Jethro Tull is metal, then I’m an Aardvark.
I genuinely believe they hop on the billboard top 200 albums and hot singles each year, throw the most popular ones or the ones with the most views/streams on and say "yup, this represents the year the best." In reality, people might stream them in the background and let them serve as background music to playing a game or studying, but are people really thinking that critically about a lot of the same old regurgiated music they're constantly nominating? Not saying none have merit, as I love a lot of the nominees. I just think it's obvious they take the SAFE option more often than not.
The year Bruno Mars won everything had pretty good nominees in AOTY (except for Bruno). Awaken My Love, DAMN, 4:44, Melodrama. Any of these could have been an apt winner for that year.
@@TheMetalTempestYT Well, to be fair, a decade ago they didn't pick the safe options, and as a result we got things like Steely Dan and Herbie Hancock winning Album of the Year, and then the Grammys got shit on for being out of touch and not awarding what most people cared about. So now they do pick the popular songs and albums, but then people complain about those too. They just can't win.
They should have dropped lil nas x's 7 from aoty and replaced it with igor. It's stupid how they shafted igor to the rap category when it clearly wasn't a rap album.
i just can’t understand how ariana didn’t get best pop VOCAL. like billie is good don’t get me wrong, but i just feel like vocally, ariana is one of the best vocalists of our generation and of the other nominees in that category. she should’ve won at least one grammy.
Nathan Fuller sorry, i said that the wrong way lol, i meant like stars that are in their prime and have been in their prime recently. her range and control is crazy compared to some other people that are popular at the moment. i think she should’ve won at least one grammy, and i think it should’ve been in this category. mariah was in her prime in the 90s and whitney around that time also. so yea i just meant artists that are in the most successful points of their careers right now, sorry.
facts ariana has been getting top 10 amazing hits since 2013 and has only recieved one grammy. she could have just ended her peak who knows. all i can say is as ariana said herself the grammys dont matter
She is easily one of the most overrated artists of all-time. Her album sales are not as big as the hype around here. There isn't a category for the stupidest artist of the year or the most generic artist of the year. Billie Eilish said Ariana should have won but on the hand she likes Justin Bieber, so we shouldn't take comments always too seriously. Billie is talented though.
Billie Eilish deserved record of the year, but the wrong song won and got nominated, it should’ve been When The Party’s Over or Bury A Friend, also IGOR was snubbed for album of the year
ariana getting snubbed is 100% intentional. her lack of appearance at last year’s grammys was due to conflict between her and a bunch of heads & co-founders. this year they simply used her for promotion this year. made her the center of the show, tweeted about her performance, just to humiliate her with no awards and no recognition. truly disgusting
MR. SMALLS j cole outrapped everybody’s track he jumped on for like two year including some of the biggest names in rap. But he’s mediocre? Name a rapper that can get away with singing like cole does on sacrifices. And that’s after a stellar verse. Or he can switch it up and murder it like on off deez or my boy. Did you even listen to his 6lack verse? Shit made me cry it’s so beautiful. You’re just a hatterrrrrr
I’d like a category like “pop fusion” that would cover albums that are alternative for a pop album, or heavily mix genres like When we all Fall Asleep Where do we Go, Igor, or Cuz I love you.
I love Rosalía don't get me wrong, but I feel the same way as Tyler about the urban category when they put Spanish people (white, European people) in the Latin category. Latin does not and should not only mean music in spanish
What ever happened to that segment he had? It didn't last long. I believe it was sponsored by Skype and he at least got to interview Alice Cooper and Danny Brown.
I think she is too famous already for the Melon. She already won latin grammys before winning this and she is also supe huge in latin america and europe.
I do like Billie but I do feel like Lana and Ariana should have won something, their albums are so good. I'm also glad that Taylor Swift didn't get one for her lover album.
Hey Melon, would love to see your opinion/ analysis on some of the 'Jazz' style tracks with artists like Jacob Collier, Snarky Puppy etc. Love the content
Billie did not deserve that many Grammys, they gave her album of the year and record of the year too along with many others like wtfff. They should've given album of the year to Lana or Ariana.
I wanted Rosalia to get the Best New Artist Grammy and iLe Cabra to get the Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album... :( Also, Lana Del Rey really deserved an award.
Actually NFR didnt perform well over the year. Lana hasn't had a song break top 10 since 2013 which at the time was number 6. The album didnt break gold or Platinum for sales. Arianas thanku, next went platinum. The title track released before the year calendar so it wasnt counted in the 2019 running. The she had many songs on the top 10 but 7 Rings peaked in Feb/19. Ended the year at artist #40 on the top 100. Billies album launched at number 1, stayed there for 3 weeks and remained in the top 10 for the rest of the year. 17 of her songs were on the top 100 for the full year and 4 were not from this album.Bad Guy peaked at number 1 in August held top 5 for 16 week most of it at number 2 but a lot at number 1. Has been on the artist 100 for 74 weeks and ended the year at #6. Her album went Double Platinum and her EP Dont Smile at Me was number 16 on the top 100 for the year. So statistically Billies album did better and that's why she won.
Jordan Denny what weight does a Grammy carry to someone who can’t accept it. If they really wanted to give him a Grammy it would’ve happened while he was still here.
@@SkinsFirstGeneration aaah I know right. I wish Jacob could get more acknowledgment. He is to me at least the most deserving of any awards. Next to Tyler.
Let’s argue: Igor should’ve been in best album, not rap, rotd and cordae got robbed... best rap song should’ve been London or bad idea... and billie deserves the praise that she got...
You'd've been pleased with the Grammy's if Billie Eyelash was white. Also never thought I would spend $67 on a wallet, but I need it and appreciate you Mr. Melon Seeds
Guess we’re not going to talk about Jacob Collier’s fantastic arrangements of “All Night Long” and “Moon River” winning 2 Grammy’s this year. The arrangers need love too.
Man, I'm really behind the times considering I know virtually nobody one these lists (aside from Tyler). The Lana snub is pretty unfortunate, but I guess Billie deserved it given she got so many?
She got album of the year song of the year record of the year and best new artist Which by the way I don't even know the diff between record of the year and song of the year but she deserved album imo
Her record was good but I don’t think it’s so good that it was debut album album of the year good. Compared to everything else in the category ig it wasn’t a bad choice but even then she beat out Lana and Arianna who have been putting in the work and both released arguably their best records yet. Still Tyler should have been nominated at least (and won) album of the year.
@@vegancookiesjp bye asf tylers record was good but it had nowhere near the impact and overall power ariana's lp had she completely owned the year with her album and even more so than the one previous with sweetener and billies debut imean it was also good but it shouldntve won album of the year same with lanas record it was a complete work of art but album of the year??? it essentially belonged to ariana before she was even nominated and snubbed i think ariana shouldve won and if not her then billie in 2nd place and lizzo in 3rd then lana 😐
Awesome recap Anthony! I think when you said: "Billie is a 'literal nazi' who deserves nothing but '100 lashes' for stealing Grammys from Lana Del Rey" you honestly went a little too far...
If Ariana had won Album of The Year over Lana I would of just seen it as being judged on impact and commercial success, which is fine. But if you're gonna give an alternative pop star the award to chose Billie over Lana is questionable. The lane Billie is in wouldn't exist without Lana. Lana brought the melancholia and darkness to the modern pop landscape, not to say she was the first to do this but at the time the radio was saturated with generic club oriented music. She shifted the direction popular music was going in. Had Billie came out in 2012 with the sound she has now she too would be hounded and would definitely not be walking away with 4 Grammys. To award Billie before Lana is just backwards, in my opinion. But the Grammy's is always gonna be subjective and not a representation of true quality.
Lana's album didnt break top 10 of the year and she has never had a number 1 single. She had a top 10 song in 2013, but it only hot number 6. Her album didnt sale well either. She ended the year at number 182 on the top 200. Billies album was in top 10 most of the year, launching at number 1. Her sales went double Platinum. Bad Guy held number 2 for most of the year and then hit number 1. And her EP was number 16. 17 of her songs, 4 not from this album were on the top 100. Statistically she did better and that's why she won.
@@anarchyvixyn how does that explain Arcade Fire or Herbie Hancock or Beck winning Album of the Year in their respective ceremonies? Do you even know who Herbie Hancock is?
Vanessa McCoy She didn’t ‘statistically’ do better than Ariana Grande, so you can’t say she won because of how much she sold and what singles did well and because it sold more than Lana’s NFR. The category wasn’t just Billie and Lana. Thank U, Next had way more impact and broke more records than Billies album, so your conclusion makes no sense. And like the comment above, it’s clearly never based solely on sales.
@@vidmasterK1 yes, Herbie Hancock won in 84- he was a jazz player that won with his song Rockit. This win came on the heels of him crossing over from Jazz to a more electric funk style. He had topped out his Jazz career and started something different. It not only was different for the style that he typically played but it was also the first "hip-hop" style song that featured scratching which made it even more compelling, except the radio in the US thought it was to abnormal so they really only played the music video on MTV. Arcade of Fire was a mistake. Someone somewhere wrote the wrong thing down and by the time they realized it, it was too late.
Yes, she did According to Billboards recap of the year from 11/24/18 to 11/16/19. Arianas thanku, next album sales: she did 2,000,000 in sales for the album making it a Platinum album. thanku, next (song) peaked 11/16/18 which puts it out of the running for the 2019 billboard's, it was counted on the 2018. So for this the only song that qualifies is 7 Rings. 7 Rings peaked at #1 2/1/19 and stayed on the top 10 for 5 weeks. Ariana is currently #40 on the artist Billboards. Billie is the youngest artist to ever have a year end number 1 album. On 4/13/19 the album launched at number 1 on the top 200, stayed at number 1 for 3 weeks and then remained in the top 10 for the remainder of the year. She had a total of 17 songs on the top 100 for the whole year- 4 of which are not on the album. Bad Guy peaked at #1 8/23 and held top 1 for 3 weeks but has been on the chart 43 weeks. Billie herself has been on the artist Billboards for 74 weeks and is currently #6. And When we all fall asleep, where do we go: made 2,361,000 in sales making it Double Platinum. Plus her EP Dont Smile At Me was number 16. Billies album is different, and I think that besides statistics, they picked someone thats doing things differently to show they are going to make changes. I also think that it was partly to knock Taylor from her youngest ever spot. I also think the album was good. It had songs that reached every genre, across multiple generations, covered things like mental health and climate change and was more relatable..not many people can buy whatever they want and spend $200 on hair and buy "diamonds for 6 of my bitches".
I was expecting a little bit that you went through other categories, Jacob Collier won two grammys and his music is unbelievably nutricious. I get it's not the genres you focus on, but still

@@CaptainSunFlare 7/5? I think that's a bit reaching. Plus, TND uses ratings out of 10, not 5. Joking aside, well yeah I agree complex =/= enjoyable but I think Jacob makes: well constructed, nuanced, well mixed and mastered, thematic music and that an individual's rating it a 7 or a 10 comes down to mostly taste. While there is the element of how caught in the details he can be, his newest music seems to step back from that, at least in part.

Tbh, nobody cared about the Grammys since Taylor Swift won over Kendrick Lamar for AOTY in 2015.
QuackieTv Since 1989 for us metalheads. Jethro Tull beating Metallica in the very first best metal performance Grammy is the biggest crock of shit in the history of the awards. As a result Metallica now wins every time they’re up for nomination.
@@jasmaxi1 nah, Jethro Tull deserved it, you just trippin rn
@@jasmaxi1 Even with St. Anger and Stone Cold Crazy. AJFA was a lazy album but at least it isn't Irish folk like Jethro Troll.
Hasn't mattered since RAM won. Wont matter until the next album.
I don’t know if there’s ever been a time where I thought the Grammys nominations were accurate...
I genuinely believe they hop on the billboard top 200 albums and hot singles each year, throw the most popular ones or the ones with the most views/streams on and say "yup, this represents the year the best."
In reality, people might stream them in the background and let them serve as background music to playing a game or studying, but are people really thinking that critically about a lot of the same old regurgiated music they're constantly nominating? Not saying none have merit, as I love a lot of the nominees. I just think it's obvious they take the SAFE option more often than not.
All we need is one less DJ Khaled win for the year and it will be almost perfect
The year Bruno Mars won everything had pretty good nominees in AOTY (except for Bruno). Awaken My Love, DAMN, 4:44, Melodrama. Any of these could have been an apt winner for that year.
Daft Punk R.A.M winning AOTY everything after and before that is just a never ending disappointment

Switch Lil Nas X with Tyler. "7" is an extended play, not an album
@Garrick Groover Agreed, It almost feels like they did that on purpose so that IGOR couldn’t get nominated
Nah Lana had the best record of the year.
Garrick Groover 100%. IGOR was fantastic (of course, heavily biased since it's my #1 album of all-time).
When The Party's Over is kinda mid tho, I prefer Bad Guy over it buuuut Bury A Friend definitely, a 100% >>> Bad Guy.
ariana getting snubbed is 100% intentional. her lack of appearance at last year’s grammys was due to conflict between her and a bunch of heads & co-founders. this year they simply used her for promotion this year. made her the center of the show, tweeted about her performance, just to humiliate her with no awards and no recognition. truly disgusting
Lana deserved the win over Billie imo(even though they are both great)
Lana 100% had the best album in that category.

I agree. I would have loved to have seen her rewarded for NFR, especially after the immense criticism she received early on in her career.

Billie did not deserve that many Grammys, they gave her album of the year and record of the year too along with many others like wtfff. They should've given album of the year to Lana or Ariana.
sweet like candy xo get over it
I wanted Rosalia to get the Best New Artist Grammy and iLe Cabra to get the Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album... :( Also, Lana Del Rey really deserved an award.
I know, right? El Mal Querer is pretty boopin, I heard, but then there are her other works with artists like J Balvin that are played everywhere.
Rosalia won at the Latin Grammys and I think that's why she didnt win.

LoreskTube i feel he didn’t go far enough
Yes, she did
According to Billboards recap of the year from 11/24/18 to 11/16/19.

Has a non-black artist ever won the “urban contemporary” Grammy? It’s pretty much the ‘affirmative action’ Grammy category so just curious... 😯
Not really
It's more of a "quick, the Blacks are making other music than rap! We need to stop them winning the white people awards!" move
You dont know what affirmative action is if youre making parallels to it. Here, were talking about music being made on an objecitvely even playingfield that is being sectioned off alone racialized boundaries with the direct impact of preventing the further diversification of the general pool.
@@fripplicious7466 I agree that there shouldn't be an "Urban" category and it's bullshit. However, the two pop categories were won by black people so I guess that didn't succeed much if that was their goal...
