- After going 0 for 16 in Sealed Deck entries during the Foundations Arena Open, I'm ready to redeem myself and make Day 2 for a shot at $2000! One small problem though as this just might be one of the worst sealed pools I've ever opened...

Lesson of this sealed event, mediore cards in tempo deck is better than splashing other colors =), good job Paul another great one thanks
That was the hope when I built the deck. Glad it worked out haha
Depends on How powerful is the splashed card. If they are a bunch of Just good cards, you're right, but bombs and good removal make It worth while. Evidently, It depends on How good is your fixing.
What's the sealed equivalent of draft decks not cards.
This was a fantastic example of taking a sub optimal pool, and with optimal play and a bit of luck making it work. Very impressive. You deserved this after the last Arena open.
Ty much!
I really appreciate how you and LSV are constantly playing to your outs.
Definitely very important for the top levels of play. I'm nowhere near LSV's level but I try
@@haumph How far is the delta between you and Luis on Arena vs at the PT?
Ok the cut from lets look at the black red deck into "ok this might be the worst sealed deck ive opened" was pretty hilarious haha.
WOW!!! What a run! I would totally mis-build that pool. My pool is incredibly way stronger than that, but my gameplay is not obviously as strong as yours. Congrats on making Day2. Justice served after that forgettable run in FDN. PIO is doing you good every time I watch your PIO videos. Looking forward for your Day2 vids. Good luck!
TY so much!
I'm Jake980, at 40:15 my hand was 4 6-drops and land #6 😭 . Def built that deck way too greedy but ended up getting there on attempt #3. ggs!
gz and gl tomorrow!
@jacoba624 - wait, didn't you just beat NicolaiBolas with a 5 colored Deck in Day 2 Draft 2 some minutes ago? 😅
@@RausausdenSchulden yeah lol. Was he streaming? I'll have to go and watch. Finished 1-1 unfortunately /:
@@jacoba624yes, I watched his stream 😅 although the 1-1 is not great, your deck seemed pretty good. Better luck next time :)
That's a 2-3 pool for me for sure. I like watching pro sports and pro magic. I love to see gifted hard working experts achieve what I can only dream of.
To be fair, I thought it was a 2-3 pool for me too.
That was epic. Really appreciated seeing you work through the various deck options. Gameplay and commentary on it was really good. Will be cheering for your Day 2!
With the high number of nearly unplayable cards in the set (skirmisher, centaur, returned hero, rapid hybridization just from this deck), I think there will be a lot of sealed decks like this. Which is why it's so great to see Paul scrap through with it!
Great salvage Paul! This is why we watch you!
Fantastic stuff Paul! I was on the edge of my seat for these games. Can't wait to hear about it on the next LR episode
The journey has only begun! Draft time tomorrow!
Wow, what a testament to skill in deck building an play. Great Job Mr. Cheon.
Thank you!
Congrats, Paul! Been loving the way you describe your plays and so fun to see you make it to day 2 with an underdog deck. Good luck tomorrow!
This was a masterclass in working with a bad sealed pool. Very well played, so glad this got there
ty!
more like a masterclass in queueing against a bunch of clowns
when a really great caster plays even better to Magic, that run it's simply amazing, really nice !
That was some fantastic spell casting Paul! Great job on finding enough of a deck and playing it well and congrats on day two! I can't wait to see the drafts and watch you win the $2k
BTW, when you asked, "What would you rate this deck?" before your own answer I immediately thought, "That's like a 3"
Appreciate that! Looking forward to the drafts too!
Great job and congrats on getting into day 2! Who doesn't love a good underdog story with that card pool ;)
Yes! Thank you!
They gave you lemons you made lemonade out of it.
haha yeah!
Jesus what a nail-biter of a run. On a razors edge from the jump. Good games!
ggs!
When you built this sealed deck, I would give it a 5/10, but by the end it felt like it was a 9. Congratulations for going for day 2, Paul! Hope to see you getting 2 grand tomorrow!
You finding out what rescue from underworld does after game 2 cracks me up lol
Man, that last game was soooo tense. Very fun to watch.
Very tense for sure!
Great piloting Paul, that was a lot of fun to watch
Well done! I love that you kept in all the iterations you could have played and even though it wasn't pretty, you pulled out the W! Nice work and good luck tomorrow!
Thank you!
I got to day 2 on my second attempt. First pool was very very good, ended up 3 and 2. My next pool was bad, not as bad as yours but I go through with one loss. It seems strange but maybe we play tighter when we know we need to fight for wins rather than rely on strong cards.
But good going Paul. Excellent play throughout ! Good luck in Day 2
Making some chili AND* some tater tots, hanging out, watching Paul… life is good.
Save some for me!
Congrats! Nice comeback from last Arena Open.
That last open was rough
Crazy, 7 wins with that Pool GGs. I made Day2 with a really nice Guild Chromanticore Deck. Looking forward meeting you on the Battlefield :P
That sounds awesome. Gl tomorrow!
I love watching arena opens.
Honestly amazing... Well played man.
thx!
Wow! Today IS a good day Paul, and you get to go to the gym now instead of going 0-16 :D Congrats!
yes I do!
Wow, nicely played Paul! I think 95% of the players would not reach day 2 with that pool
ty!
Insane win man, spinning straw into gold, bravo!
yeah was definitely satisfyin!
Nice work, looking forward to seeing your day 2. Nothing but ‘that’s magic baby’ pain for me today, sigh
Sorry to hear that!
@ i did make mythic 75 this month so far at least! That’s two months in a row, so feeling good there watching your content has really helped me really think about the deck I’m drafting and how I’m playing!
OP plays Anax into Crusader, Paul is "I'm in daaangeeer".
Not sure if it matters, but Crackdown Construct and Wandering Fumarole have a combo for infinite power. Both were in your Seled pool.
that's cool for sure but I don't know that I would have run it still.
I love how you are commenting on your own games as if they were some official championship, you really make your games exciting to watch. I think this deck was a 3 too, no good removal and just nothing really powerful in it. Weak opponents somehow balanced it out. Luck is more important than a good deck. So good luck for your day 2.
Nice work Paul, always a good time. Thanks.
You bet
It was a great feeling to see you nab this one. Congrats, man!
@@collinfoster-lawson5789 thanks!
People say that commentators are just frustrated players. Paul can prove them wrong. Commentators are very skilled...and frustrated
A humble offering for the almighty algorithm.
It’s always prime choice level content when playing for steaks, er I am mean stakes. 😅
PLEASE ARENA SEALED GODS HELP PAUL OUT 😂 also that was a pro tour winning island game 1 1st draw
Amazing games! Congrats on day 2. I guess if we average that last tournament's 50k gem cost it averages okay now haha
Geeez, how you can pull this of with this cardpool? Hats off to you Sir!
I'm not sure...I'm not sure
4/10 pool to me, since you asked. Would have never built that pool. Grats well done!
TY!
3/10 deck, 10/10 gameplay
Great job Paul!
TY!
Great content. I think part of the sneakiness in the decks one viable plan is the color pair. If all of the black cards were white it mightve felt a bit better. Ive had lots of sealeds over the years where the plan was UW fliers with limited interaction.
Also chuckled that you stopped to read the return from the underworld and still didnt know what it did later, seemed like you thought you could get 2 creatures from the yard back.
Also surprised against the one boros opponent that you didnt consider using rapid hybridization on your screecher to try to eat the 2/2 first strike and give you a bigger creature. Likely not worth the risk but arena can give you tells that they dont have any instants, which was the case.
I've bluffed Arena tells before when I've had the spell and didn't have spells so I try not to use them as the way to determine my plays (if somebody turns on full control suddenly with one red mana up and there's now a pause, do you always assume they have a wild slash/rimrock knight?) It's not how I approach the game in general. If I lose 0.1% win rate because of it, I'm okay with that.
Like you said you got a little lucky to pull that off with your pool but very skillfully piloted. I know I would've punted somewhere.
Paul unbeatable with Dimir
A cloudfin raptor and a dream
the little raptor that could
Man im so happy for you, congratz! But i have to be honest, I'm kinda sad because we only got to watch you one time haha.
5/10 for the deck, two wins max.
More draft videos tomorrow!
Stellar Performance!
Let's GOOOO!! celebrated this as if it was me getting to day 2
What an amazing run
Great job managing 7 wins with an iffy pool & congrats on making Day 2!
One criticism though:
Halo Scarab HAS to be better than Returned Centaur or Rescue from the Underworld as your 24th playable, especially if you're going to run 16 lands. It has a significantly higher win rate than either of them, it fits better in a deck that's looking to be pretty aggressive, curve out with creatures and get hits in for Bident of Thassa, it buffs Cloudfin Raptor on turn 2, it can be sacrificed to Fell Stinger, and the ability to make a treasure from the graveyard can help cast spells off Nightveil Specter or set up a double-spell turn for Illusory Angel or just mana / color fix in a pinch. Sure, Returned Centaur's mill 4 has a few synergies with Gurmag Angler & Nighthowler but a 4 mana 2/4 has no business being in a tempo-ish deck, and Rescue from the Underworld is extremely slow and has very few big creatures worth returning or ETBs to re-trigger.
Crazy run Paul! Ur a really amazing magic player
ty!
At first look I thought red was your best color out of 5 bad options. Then you don't run red and still get 7 wins. Very well done!
Great stuff mr Cheon
TY!
Bad pool + great pilot = fun watch!
That may be the most impressive performance I have seen from you.
ty!
GG! Awesome video 😎🤘
Thanks! 🎉
What a redemption :) GGs
Nice job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice, I would 100% have forced Green/Red and gone three and out. That's gotta feel good after the last open!
24:24 sejiri shelter the centaur to prevent lifegain maybe?
What a way to do it ❤
Nice work! I will hope not to see you tomorrow. Took me four bullets and in my winning run I even blew a game with some kinda spastic finger twitch double clicking for no blocks.
Made draft two! Grateful to you for stanning rapid hybridization, which one of my opponents was main decking. I got passed chromanticore p1p4 and p3p5 but opponents were playing fair magic (except for the immaculate boros deck that ran me over while I missed half a dozen land drops lmao)
Good god, way to turn turds into gold! Congrats, good sir!
Congrats on first try
Crazy you had 8 rares with 2 gods. Almost every match I played my opponent had a God. I had wandering fumarole, spirit of dragon haven, days undoing, nibilis of frost, secure the wastes and double black 5 mana flyer. Didn't use any of them lol...
i didn't play either of them!
The deck that could
Im not a big fan of PIO so I only did one run with my gold. Had a decent UB splashing white deck, went 5-1 then lost one to not drawing removal for goreclaw and another to misplay by not shifting to the defensive and keeping my essence scatters up.
Congratulations!
Thank you!
ggs close games
ggs!
Let's gggggooooooo!!!!!!
Gg, very nice!
Thanks!
What a beaut Paul. Way to go.
thanks!
great build of a bad pool
very bad indeed
and then there's my attempt, where one of my opponents played one of each of the dragonlords in their gate deck
oof!
What a maestro!
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
24:16 don’t u miss lethal by not giving your 2/4 pro white? They wouldn’t gain any life and then u swing in for nine on your turn.
Definitely at least 4 bag of peanuts deck.
Arthur Harris was like 1:55
?
3/10 pool, 10/10 gameplay
What an awful pool (I haven't watched the matches yet). My fingers are crossed.
Wow! Day 2 with a super mediocre deck. Well done!!!
LETS GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
The goat
GG's!!!
ggs!
I would have never won that last game
That one was intense for sure
Hah, I've seen at least 3 content creators this arena open who have said something to the effect of "this is the worst sealed pool I've ever opened". That's just pioneer masters, huh?
Yeah sadly I didn't get too many opportunities to practice sealed as it wasn't available on Arena.
yea!!!!!!
Deck certainly had a plan, but it definately overperformed on that plan.
sure did
4/10 deck. 11/10 pilot
Yeahhhh my mannnn
