if you haven’t come across it already, Maurice by E. M. Forster is another gay classic which follows two boys at university in England. it was written sometime in the early 20th century but not published until after the authors death in the 70’s, and I think you’d really enjoy it

If anyone doesn’t know, an incredible follow-up book to Maurice is Alec by William di Canzio! Follows Maurice after the ending of E. M. Forster’s masterpiece.

I absolutely adored Tin Man, then I read Sarah Winman's other books and she quickly became one of my favourite authors. I met her briefly at a book talk/launch/signing last year in Brisbane.

Excellent video and selection of titles! I’ve read a bit more then half, though Young Mungo pulls ahead for me as the favorite of Stuart’s work, I’m still haunted by that ending. You’ve really hit on a nice wide variety of books, but it’s exciting to know you have so much more left to read as Queer literature just keeps expanding exponentially each year with more and more excellent titles.
I feel I’d be remiss if I didn’t recommend a title, so I’m going with The Master by Colm Toibin, who is a Queer writer, but who casts a wide net about what he writes about. The Master is basically a biography of writer Henry James, but somewhat images his inner life of being a Queer man who may, or may not have gotten the chance to fully explore and experience that side of himself completely. Toibin did a similar novel about Thomas Mann exploring that rather buried part of his life as well and is quite excellent too.

If you’re looking for more queer poetry, I have to recommend you Don’t Call Us Dead by Danez Smith. One of the best poetry collections I’ve ever read. For queer fiction, The Song of Achillies, A Single Man and The Picture of Dorian Gray.

Thank you for recommending ' Swimming in the Dark. ' I do not accept the craze for ' Giovanni's Room. ' Sending ( emotionally ) the gay lover Giovanni to the Guillotine by his messed up bisexual lover is the most negative of all gay novels of the 1950's. For the 1950's rich in gay novels I would suggest ' The Heart in Exile, ' ' The Charioteer ' and ' The Youngest Director. '' Publishing house Valencourt should have them, and ' The Charioteer ' written by Mary Renault by Virago. Baldwin was a fine writer but I fear this passion for ' Giovanni's Room ' is a hetero/homo choice of gay essential reading that is a trendy fad, and hopefully it will pass. His book ' The Fire Next Time ' is essential reading and it is not gay.

Yes there is a film adaptation. Available on DVD. Called ' Lie With Me. ' I do not like the title as Bresson's title translated correctly should have been in my opinion ' Stop it with your lies. '
