Are you able to use a Ti Base when working with a lab? Seems like most of them will only do a custom abutment for an implant crown...which is a lot more $$$. Do you have to mill them in office to be able to use your Ti Base?
You can use stock hybrid ti base abutments with any lab. If the implant is in the correct position I use this stock abutment with a zirconia crown ALL the time. It is my work horse solution and is a lot more reliable and less cost than a custom abutment solution. NOTE: it is important that the lab does it correct. If they create too much die space the cement will be pressed into a situation that it will likely fail. If they don’t follow the exact manufacturer’s protocol associated with the cement it will fail. If the crown looks like a snoopy or an ET it will fail. That is way many folks don’t like this solution. They have failures. If you do it right it work’s amazing.
Hello. I have an implant on tooth no. 12, it is well positioned, made by a specialist. The dentist who puts the crown wants to put a Prefabricated Abutment, and a zirconia crown. Is it good, or is a custom abutment better? Thank you.
If the implant is centered under the future crown, then the stock abutment and zirconia crown should last a lifetime. Sounds like you have an excellent dental team.
You are likely correct on the hard costs but if you include your target hourly labor rate for performing dentistry you are probably loosing money when preforming a lab service instead for doing dentistry. Now, if you are not busy then that can make business sense. Additionally, working with the digital workflows can allow the doctor complete control over the prosthetic solution which is extremely mentally rewarding. Either way you are providing a great solution to your patients. Good job!
Favorite quote: "I got a snoopie." ROFL! That imagery though spot on.
It is hard not seeing that going forward.
I can't agree more how much is the importance of correct positioning of the implant

Thank you my friend!

I'd have to disagree though. I spend less on my custom abutments than on a TI base abutment because I design and mill myself.

In my opinion, TiBase abutments are an inferior solution.
Tell me why you feel that way.
