- Auburn Athletic Director Allen Green introduces former Boise State head coach Bryan Harsin as the new head coach of Auburn football. Harsin was named the Tigers’ new coach earlier this week after a nine-day search to replace Gus Malzahn, who spent eight seasons at the helm.
Harsin comes to Auburn from Boise State, where he went 69-19, and has won at least nine games every season he’s been with the Broncos -- with the exception of this season, which was shortened by the pandemic.
Like Malzahn, Harsin has an offensive background. He was a quarterback at Boise State before moving into coaching. He spent time coaching many different positions, including running backs, wide receivers, tight ends and quarterbacks, before becoming an offensive coordinator. His first head coaching position was at Arkansas State, where he took over after Malzahn left.

@Blayne Schaaf - The Broncos have won against SEC teams in the past. Any games we lost against Power 5 teams were lost in the trenches as SEC teams generally have a size, strength, and athleticism advantage over every other conference including the PAC 12.
Having said that, let’s not over-hype the SEC, football is football and while players make plays, it’s up to the coaches (specifically at the college level - kids are NOT pros) to put them in position to grow, develop, compete, and win. That’s what the Boise State program is all about. We coach no star athletes to NFL rosters and 3 star athletes into the 1-3rd round of the draft and into starting positions on NFL rosters provided they have the size and speed as evidenced by Leighton of the Cowboys and Ezra of the Vikings.

Regarding Harsin, I think he’ll get his Auburn guys ready to play and I think they’ll be better than 6-4, giving Saban and boys a serious run for their money if they play Alabama during the last 1/3 of the 2021 season.

It's obvious most of these comments are from either trolls from other schools or the fair weather Auburn fans who are always negative and honestly don't belong to the Auburn family. Anyone who listened to this man speak and didn't get the impression that he was a loyal, fair, compassionate, hard working competitor who is ready to ignite the passion in our players and fans and have us in a position to compete with anyone in the country either A) didn't actually listen to him speak or B) DID listen and now they're scared we found exactly what it was going to take to beat their team. I'm the biggest Auburn fan you will ever find and I've been through the ups and downs of Auburn Football for the past 40 years. Coach Dye was my hero and taught me to love the Tigers at an uncommonly early age. I was a Tigerette when Terry Bowden left town on Friday and we had recruits to welcome Saturday morning at 7am who were full of questions about the uncertainty that was ahead for us. I saw Tubs come in and answer those questions by having us champions of the west within 2 years and continue on a path to an undefeated season and 6 straight wins over bama. I was in Arizona when we won it all and was part of all the magic of 2013. This past season I felt the winds of change blowing again but was sad to see Gus go. I felt frustrated with the crazy coaching search that just took place and was confused at first with the hire...BUT...I'M NOW VERY OPTIMISTIC ABOUT WHAT'S AHEAD. IM PROUD OF OUR AD FOR STANDING HIS GROUND AND GOING OUTSIDE THE GRASSROOTS OF THE SEC. I THINK THIS GUY COULD BE THE NEXT URBAN MEYER AND IM HAPPY TO HAVE HIM AT AUBURN! WDE,COACH! I’m the Biggest Auburn fan. I was about ready to stop going for Auburn cause of the past 10 years at Auburn. If they didn’t fire Gus. He’s a great man. He had a tough job. But with his offense and how he couldn’t develop talent. Couldn’t develop the passing game. With this hire I’m confident that Allen Greene made this hire. This guy is a known winner. He’s got the 3rd best winning percentage in college football. If your a winner your a winner. So I’m back on board. The past 10years have been real rough. I’ve only been an Auburn fan for 35 years. If B.S.U football wants to ever be considered a top 5 program. They need to schedule more than one P5 games every season. These games gives programs more exposure and better access to 5 stars players. Losing great coaching staff to the P5 should be a Wake up.

He's been trying make that happen since he became the football coach of Boise State. And I honestly believe that if Boise State would Advance into a different conference Bryan harsin wouldn't be Auburn coach. That's the same reason Chris Peterson left.

Alabama just had the best one in Sabans career. Think about that for a minute.
But most importantly, he had the Lowder seal of approval. BTW, social distancing goes by the wayside when a good photo-op appears. Another cliche king. This reminds me of the introductory speech of Chad Morris at Arkansas. One thing I gleaned from near the end, Coach Harsin will not have final say in the hiring of his staff.

I live in Twin Falls, Idaho. For those of you that don't know its 1 hour and 45 minutes from Boise. Harsin is a great man and Auburn is lucky to have this guy. One thing they didn't mention is that fact he won two new years six bowl games as well. I will root for Auburn and Harsin in the future. I hope Broncos stay strong and I hope Auburn wins some titles. Also, I hate ALABAMA.
I'm a Bronco and Capital High Eagle as is Harsin and I whole heartedly disagree with you. "Working the right way" is hollow talk from this guy. He made that very clear from day one with how he dealt with Finley's arrest and his subsequent failure to properly deal with him in regards to his legal issues. In contrast coach Pete at the same moment in time gave the nation's top CB Marcus Peters the boot from UW right after taking the reins there because of his failure to uphold their programs standards. As much as he learned from Petersen, they are most certainly very different men. One grooms boys into men the right way and the other is an arrogant opportunist whos great at alienating boosters and alumi.
His game time adjustments were frequently garbage and everyone knows he took Pete's team to a Fiesta bowl championship in 2014. He only won 12 games once more outside that first year in the mountain west. His recruiting was also suspect and he let BYU steal a stud in Zack Wilson right from underneath us at the last minute.
I'm not one who tries to compare a coach to his historic predecessor, but he was so starkly different from the man whos coaching tree he sprang from. You must be a fellow LDS member or know little about this guy if you're so wild about him, because nearly everyone I know who's had personal interactions with him thinks he's an absolute tool. Says alot about a man when the majority of the community that he was raised in no longer wanted him here. He jumped ship at the right time! Im excited for Avalos and a new chapter for BSU! We'll see how things unfold at Auburn...

Anybody on here saying Gus shouldn’t got fired is not an Auburn fan. I was done with this program. Done with Gus. He can’t develop players nor a passing game. Bo Nix is probably so happy and the wide receivers 2. Like our passing routes where everyone go long. No slants, out routes, double routes, nor option routes. Just go long. It was we going run 6 play and hope it worked. No halftime adjustment or anything. We lose games we should never lose. That’s what sucked. With this guy we will will them games. He’s got the 3rd best winning percentage behind 2 coaches in the playoffs. Great hire...
I'd like to see him keep T.Will and Cadillac on staff. Maybe Steele but I feel like whether that is going to happen or not is already decided so I'm ok with whatever on that end. But everyone else would probably be better off finding other opportunities...Ive heard tank may be leaving...his biggest recruiting job needs to be within our current team and get them on board...I do believe him when he says he's getting bombarded by coaches wanting to be part of what we're building...this is a very exciting time to be an Auburn Tiger....

3/4 through the season and I am excited to see how auburn finishes out the season. 2 double digit wins over top 10 teams? Beating LSU in tiger stadium for the first time in 20 years? Very successful season so far and I think we can pull out at least three more wins this season.

@@FortuneSeek3rz just because he can’t finish on a season his first year at the program doesn’t negate any of the great wins or games that already took place earlier this season. I do wish Auburn would have won the past two games especially giving up to Miss State at home in the second half, but I still like Harsin and think good things are on the way for Auburn football.
@@sgh729 There was a huge learning curve for Mississippi State last year in Mike Leach's offense. This year it's clicking. So I'll agree with you that a program needs at least a year to adjust to a brand new coaching staff and scheme. The difference between the two halves is still somewhat perplexing though. It was just so extreme.

He had good mentors in the past, hoping he can translate and heritage his experiences to Auburn project. Pro: rising star from non-intensive conference team with energetic efforts, offense by nature as QB coach; Cons: SEC competing environments may or may not given him a chance to turn around unless Alabama, UF, Texas A&M, Georgia going different direction. He is not familiar with current coach staff. His recruiting strategies will not fly. Good luck to Him! It would be a wild card for Auburn, everything possible. As long as Auburn has a good and strong starter QB, he will be fine! Also his salary savings will fill the holes to fire Gus, not a bad deal for Auburn. In a long run, would be an interesting and tough play for auburn. If he is not successful in next two seasons, Auburn will become tier 2 program for a while like Maryland team.

Well he sounds like the part. Auburn is a dumpster fire. Hope he brought enough water. If he goes 7-5 next year with the mediocre talent that he is inheriting it will be a miracle. The question is will Auburn money and fans have the patience it will take to build a program around this man's philosophy. His philosophy is a new thing to Auburn. Auburn has always been about family but more kind of an undisciplined family. This guy sounds like a 4 star general replacing a lieutenant. Hopefully it works out. If anything he will have to up the recruiting game at Auburn because no matter how good of a coach he is, if he cant bring I talent he wont have the ability to hang with Bama. It will take 3 to 4 years to beat Bama.
I disagree...if he can keep the majority of the team in place and fill in with some top juco talent and a transfer or 2 to fill in the gaps this year and hires some great recruiters and can get a great class next year, we should never go through rough years. There has been a complacency to set in at Auburn and get that shaken off and we will be in business

This was not a good hire. He is an excellent coach. But a sub par recruiter. In this business especially in the south. 80% recruiting and 20% on the field coaching. No doubt this man is a good coach obviously. But you need to be a hell of a recruiter. Look at the states around him and auburn he will be competing against. Tall tall task

He’s had only the 52 best recruiting class. Finish in top 25 every year at Boise St. That’s called developing players. That is already better then Gus Bus... Gus Bus didn’t do nothing. Auburns only had 2 more players get drafted then Boise St during there period coaching

All the bandwagon fans ignored his moral and ethics record...and now they see him for what he "really" is about as the bandwagoners sat by and let him run this program into irrelevancy. Clearly not a real Boise State Bronco. Coach Harsin was solid for us and would still be at BSU if the administration was more convicted to move on from the Mountain West. Good luck, Coach!
@@bozbell9010 Son...you dont know the logistics...ya just a bandwagoner who got roofied when he left. He only had to win 8 games a year to automaticlly extend his contract. We were stuck with him...any coach can win 8 at bsu. Now...Harsin was a part of bsu team as 3rd string qb. his total career passing % was 28. He became a grad student with wilcox and taught classes where you were forced to create a scheme for them to use to pass class. They used those plays in 1st fiesta! Harsin bailed to Tex and got RUN out of town because he was over his head and scheme was shit. Ark st coach got promoted and left harsin a great team. Harsin went on to lose 6 games and bolt back to bsu. He then took over a harsin team. won 1st year with petes team...and since...he has drove this program into irrelevancy. Harsin is not head coach material. So glad he is gone!
Thats right. Harsin lost alot of games that were easy wins for BSU. I got tired of yelling at him through the t.v.

True, sometimes players don’t show up the way you would like and games are lost. Having said, we didn’t dodge BYU this year, played with our true freshman QB (3rd string for a reason) and lost. I’ll take showing up and competing any day vs heading for the hills.

Wake up guys, Auburn needs a resurrection, a coach who can come in and actually coach and develop players. You got your coach in Harsin and whoever he bring in as assistants.
