We were one play away from losing to Ole Miss and Arkansas
There are people old enough to vote who have never experienced a win in Baton Rouge. Next year, there will be people able to drive who have never experienced an Auburn win in Athens. If this resume doesn’t warrant firing, I don’t know what does. Reminder, Gus was the ~7th highest paid coach in all of college football and still put up the results above. Also, Auburn reeled in several top 10 recruiting classes as well, and Auburn’s highest-rated recruits regularly transferred from the program. The current Auburn recruiting class is ranked 42nd, which shows Gus had already given up on the team.

Auburn has been overly patient with Gus. In his ONLY good season after year 1, we STILL had 4 losses. Gus had all the players to go all the way in 2013, 2014, 2017, and 2019 and couldn’t put it together.

A majority of the Auburn fanbase doesn’t even bother watching the games anymore. Fan, booster, and BOT apathy have set in. It’s past time for Gus to go. Fan apathy and the money the university stands to loose if they didn’t make the move is what’s at stake. That amount for that buyout pales in comparison to forking over the cash.

    3-5 (38%) vs. Alabama
    2-7 (22%) vs. Georgia
    3-5 (38%) vs. LSU

20-27 (41%) when playing ranked teams
    8-17 (31%) when playing top 10 teams
27-31 against Power Five teams with a winning record.
2 NY6 bowl appearances, and is 0-2 (0%) in them
7 straight seasons with at least four losses
1st loss to a non-major conference team in 27 years
1st loss to Tennessee in 19 years (20 years at home)
1st loss to South Carolina in 87 years (1933)
1 SEC championship in 8 years
    0 playoff appearances
    0 national titles
2 first-round NFL draft picks since 2014, both in 2020. No offensive first round picks since 2014. No offensive players recruited by Malzahn drafted in the 1st round. Went 5 seasons without a single first-round pick. Sammie Coates was drafted and didnt know what a route tree was when he reported to the Steelers.
Someone on staff couldnt count to 5 and cost the former years Alabama Mr Football a season of eligibility.
We’ve lost by a combined 69 points this year in the 4 losses.
    We beat no ranked teams.
We beat no teams with a winning record.
We lost to a team that fired their coach midseason(USCe).
We never were in the games against GA or Alabama.
We were one play away from losing to Ole Miss and Ark
There's people old enough to vote who have never experienced an Auburn win in Red Stick.
Next year there will be people able to drive who have never experienced an Auburn win in Athens.
*The overall numbers suggest yes, his tenure was a failure as HC* especially when we have lost recently because of an inept offense from our "offensive genius."

    • @MrExdous69
      @MrExdous69 3 года назад

Anyone who can see these numbers and think Gus deserved 7m per season needs their head examined.
No one expects to be Bama or UGA.
What did Bama or UGA have to do with losing to USCe? What did Bama ot UGA have to do with losing at home to a terrible Tennessee team? What did Bama or UGA have to do with giving up a 3TD 2nd half lead at LSU? What did Bama and UGA have to do with Gus saying 6-4 is a solid year? What does Bama or UGA have to do with all of our QBs appearing to regress under Gus? What does Bama or UGA have to do with our offensw looking almost identical under 4 different OCs?
The only place its "all about what Bama and UGA are doing" is in the eyes of the media. There isnt a single auburn fan I know that expects to be Bama or UGA.
But im sorry with like 15 games on the schedule now, it is unacceptable to not EVER win 10 games in back to back seasons. We have only done that once in over 110 years of football. We dont expect 15 wins every year, im sorry Josh but expecting 10 wins per year shouldnt be out of the question when we are paying top 5 money.

The way our defense played against LSU, Florida, Bama, etc last year, I always thought the Defensive coach should be given a shot at being skipper. If Gus had made a competent defensive coach hire in 2013 we would have won the national championship, probably twice in a row, with that ridiculous Nick Marshall offense putting up 500, 600 yards a game to lose by three. SMH.
Gus could not make good hires. Nick Saban gets Lane Kiffin, Gus gets some guy from Arkansas. Arkansas...
My brother and I had a joke. "Well, Gus why did you decide to hire John Doe from Woodland Highschool over Bill Bellicheck as offense coordinator."
Gus: "Well, John Doe gave me a bite of his candy bar in first grade. That's family right there, and at Auburn we're all about family."

  • @rossg6907
    @rossg6907 3 года назад +1

I wouldn’t call Gus a “failure” but I would say that the reason for his firing is more of a lack of consistency and there are many variables that caused that some of which were out of his control BUT I believe Gus was his own worst enemy. He was labeled an offensive genius after that miracle 2013 season where he caught lightning in a bottle with Nick Marshal and Trey Mason(oh, and a first round draft pick in O’line Greg Robinson!) but after that he continually surrounded himself on offense with very inexperienced coaches for example “Kodi Burns” and others. It seemed Gus was afraid to hire any offensive coaches who might know more than him and his offenses suffered for it. There were also innumerable moments where he looked like he had no clue as to who should be a starter, I forget the RB name but he was like 4th string and then Roc Thomas transferd and a series of things happened that brought the 4th string Rb to starter and he was amazing, he sat the bench for two years before this but seemed he was the best of the bunch and Gus didn’t know? Look at all the QB talent that came and went never to develop under Gus. There have been so many times I wondered wth is Gus doing?! Gus will get a nice severance check so stop feeling bad for the guy, he wasn’t fired for anything other than a lack of consistency and when you are getting paid big money like that, consistency is a must.

I agree with all that but everyone is going to look up the street to saben and say "why cant we be that". And we both know it. And if you can convince me of someone that can do all that u talked about. Aka in auburn money range I'll be on board.

He shouldn't have hired Chad Morris. I mean i'm glad his garbage offense has been proven ineffective once again. But now any OC is an upgrade so they will inevitably be better next year.

He isn't a failure. He had eight years to produce and couldn't cut it. Auburn recruiting wasn't bad either. He had eight years and Auburn grew tired of him. Already knew he was out the door before they fired him. And by the way it wasn't just him. Auburn cleaned house and hired 7 coaches. It wasn't just him.

Name another coach that has defeated Saban 3 times. Granted, he’s had more chances than many, but taking down #1 Bama twice and #5 Bama once is some serious cachet.

And yet he could only get a chance at a national championship only one of his eight seasons. Other teams, such as Clemson and Georgia, have consistently had greater seasons and chances at the championship.

@@lintlickerben Georgia's east conference was weak all those years. All they had to do to get into the Natty was beat Bama in the SEC championship, and I don't remember them actually even doing that.

@@lintlickerben Georgia has only played for the natty once in that time frame and Clemson is in a different conference. UGA is almost over Smart now. I get what you’re saying, though. Auburn is in a tough situation. No one going to come in and suddenly take over the west while Saban is still coaching. If he wins just 4 of the 12 road games against Bama, UGA, and LSU, then he is still coaching.

I am not an Auburn fan so my opinion may not be meaningful. I do not think he was a failure. I am surprised he was fired. I think these schools make coaching changes and frequently find out later that it was a mistake. This season is a very strange season. Playing an all SEC schedule with limited preparation, I would think that alone makes this being a bad year to make this move. . .

  • @TravisDoesKayakFishing

He failed at player development. The list of losses against teams that average 2 and 3 star players (UCF, Minnesota, South Carolina, etc.) goes on. Given the resources and support that Auburn provides, he should never be that consistent in failure against lesser teams.
