Totally agree with you. The Mac Pro might be announced, that's not out of the norm, it's happened before. If a good portion of your software is running through Rosetta, then there's still room for improvement.
Yeah, Rosetta is awesome. It was amazing to have that option when these were first released, but as we approach that two year mark, it’s time for the transition.
Great video. I ordered a M1 max MacPro and am still waiting for it to be delivered 2 months after ordering it. The delivery date got changed to end of July / August. I’m happy to wait as I have other computers but will be bitter if they announce a M2 chip line up when they can’t even make enough M1’s to support the demand. 😡
Your situation is a perfect example as to why it wouldn’t make sense for the M2 to launch right now. Let’s just hope that your MBP gets to you sooner than expected. 🤞📦
@@KevinRossRN Thanks. I always wonder what the point of providing the press or RUclipsrs with new tech is if most people can’t buy them. Very similar to a couple years back when you couldn’t buy a gpu but amd and nvidia kept releasing new models yet only a handful of products would make it to the stores. I understand why it’s happening but it’s really frustrating being an end user.
You got that right. I’ve had to buy almost immediately to be able to get a device to test, and in some cases if I had been able to wait and think about it, I may have made a different investment. And yes, the GPU market was (is) so frustrating.
Absolutely spot on... especially software performance. Even though the M1 Max is a beast, it still struggles with some 3rd party plugins (actually a lot of them).
Yeah, and it can get pretty frustrating when you’ve invested all that money and time into those plug-ins and find that they’re still not working. Appreciate you on this one.
Completely agree with you. There’s plenty of room to improve current devices from within. It’s like playing PS4 games on a PS5. Right now I’m on M1 Pro & Air and iPhone 12 Pro and I don’t plan on upgrading anything until they decomposed to their materials of origin 😂 (ok, exaggerated a little but you know what I mean). Done playing the waiting game 😂 Best wishes brother! ✊🏼

@@KevinRossRN Yup, it’s all about riding the waves 🏄♂️. It’d be awesome to see your take on other things that interest you. Well I actually have a “secret” channel I’ve been slowly building. I’ll be doing a reversal of that one once I build out more BTS/ Business content on it. In the meantime, surfs up 🏄♂️ 🌊
You are probably not wrong but if the MacPro is announced AND it has a M2Pro/max/ultra chipset it will make my choice a little harder. The current delivery date is already months off so at what point will I just wait until the next version especially if it has something like hardware ray tracing.
Yeah now if they just completely leaped forward to pop the M2 into the Pro then I think many of us would be falling off the fence one way or another. And yes, I should have mentioned the ray tracing in this one.
Hi kevin, agreed with what you said….. frankly M1 is more than capable than what I’m doing. All the hype over M2 is just hot air blowing. Guessed other RUclipsrs need hype to stay relevant and keep the LIKES !! It’s becoming funny when one RUclipsr would use another RUclipsr purported “LEAKS” to confirm their own “LEAKS”. Fortunately, you are wise to stay out of this farce Cheers
Ha! Oh it’s a bit of a struggle to stay out of the fray, and I do try this approach at the detriment of fewer views because it’s not as “sexy,” but I still have to feel good about what I’m putting out there to the community. Not to mention just looking at this current situation from a simple business standpoint makes more sense to me. Great to have you stop by and glad to hear that M1 is still rocking for you. 🤘
@@KevinRossRN most welcome … don’t chase numbers, choose quality of viewers. Computers are just a tool, the real McCoy is the software as you said and with which I agrees. Hopefully, computing don’t get crazy like photography with photographers chasing lenses instead of spending time to take better photos with whatever they have. Prices are rising too, partly because manufacturers nowadays knows that “devotees” are willing to pay an arm and a leg to get the latest and the greatest even if it’s just to fulfill their desires instead of their needs. Look at how graphic cards are becoming more expensive than the computer itself, all in the name to get a few more framed rates. Keep up your good work and stay grounded 👍🏼
Really appreciate that, friend. And yes, those GPUs are as expensive as every other component. We just built another PC and I decided to go with a APU (integrated graphics) from AMD and my son can play just about any game without issue.
Yeah, and what’s happening in crypto right now…I know a few folks in the mining business and they paid a premium for these GPUs and they aren’t returning their original investment very quickly. In fact, some of them are well in the red as of late 😬
Good one. I have been thinking for some time now that the software has become the performance bottleneck with a lot of the new Mac hardware, especially the new Studio. All the performance comparisons seem to show this powerhouse of a machine coming up short. But as you said we need to demand more out of the software first. You can be running a Formula 1 race car but if its got poor fuel, it's not going to perform at its maximum. And also we have become jaded to a degree, after the release of the first M1's. I remember how we all raved about their performance. They still have stellar performance over other machines available now. We seem to expect Apple to keep hitting it out of the park on every single release. Well, until the software keeps pace, I don't think it will matter generally, what Apple releases. Yes we all want lightning fast performance. But that takes time. Compared to what we had just a few short years ago, we do have that performance. Thanks again for you post. Always interesting points of view. Cheers.
Exactly! We quickly got spoiled by this awesome experience, and even (myself included) pushing these machines harder and further beyond what they were likely intended for. But yes, once we get better utilization with this software, aside from ray tracing with the GPUs, the current machines could be even better.
I think we’re forgetting that Max Tech reported when they took these things apart that the studios Apple lied in their words that the studios are upgradable which would make sense is they have to have these into chips to compete otherwise they’re done for that way the investments not lost Also I believe we have to have both software authorization and upgraded billing
I definitely think the studio was designed to handle chips that may require more thermal headroom down the road, and this is a”smart” business move so they can remain with the same chassis manufacturing specs, but it’ll be interesting to see how long we’ll have to wait for a SoC that’ll actually be able to need that headroom🤷♂️
I think Apple was very disappointed in the GPU performance of their M1 chip. Apple then panicked, and sent a boatload of money to the Blender consortium and, uncharacteristically, sent their precious engineers to work on 3D performance. They've gotten some performance gains, but clearly they need hardware ray tracing acceleration. Most likely, the M2 has been removed from production until this is fixed. Certainly no Mac Pro for now.
Chips generally don't get redesigned. The cost is too high. But they do get designed with a tremendous amount of hardware to allow parts to be reconfigured in various ways, or even deactivated if testing turns up a flaw which can't be worked around by firmware or software. Whatever M2 chip they're reportedly testing now is almost certainly the hardware that will ship to customers.
@@KevinRossRN fwiw, I personally have an old trashcan Mac Pro which I bought used on ebay a few years ago when Apple released the latest cheesegrater and the used market on trashcans came down to reasonable prices. It can't do H265 but otherwise still works pretty well.
That’s awesome. I haven’t seen too many of those in the wild. I remember when it was released. It was so stunning and confusing all at the same time. I’ve been thinking about picking one up for the “collection.”
