On landings, "high angle attack is not your friend." That's it!!!! I'm so use to coming in with a HOA from F16s, F22, and a Rafale that I keep stall this 3-5 feet off the ground. Thank you!!!
Dustin is loving his. Great jet. The 80mm so needs to be upgraded...and I bet it will. I notice you got the same wiggle at full sweep we did with the stock gyro. Kind of weird.

Wow! There were some really scary moments! Great reaction time to be able to recover the stalls in wind like that. Definitely putting the F-14 on my wish list... Just need to get a little better at flying first.
Awesome review, Jon. I'm digging the rating system. That throttle mixed wing sweep is friggin cool! I'm so glad these manufacturers are really putting efforts into new planes. Not just stuffing new tech into 15 year old molds and re-boxing them as "version 8!". 👍
I Really enjoy your shakedown's on this Freewing 64mm F-14 Tomcat, And i totally agree 100% that Freewing should do the exact same mod's on its 80mm version
My friend and I took the wing to belt sander made the bottom flat reshape the top of the tip and I put wing fences on it so much better. It was always a good in takeoff and flying it’s second to none but that landing was always such a pain even getting it right it could still bite you now it’s tame and a very predictable airplane. I recommend.
I found that the 10360T gets really good reception without a extra satillite. The 8360T down to 637T does need a extra satillite receiver to get the same reception.
This has made it on my list now for fpv . I saw Tom hunts video and now this . Sold . Would be awesome to add a weather forecast picture at the beginning to show your flight conditions for us nerds
I would pay extra for the twin 80 if it was built robust out of the box like we have to do to upgrade it to be flight capable. 80mm needs to be updated to a version 2 and I would buy it for sure if it had all the fixes, like the landing gear are very week even with grass opps upgrade. The trunions on the retracts are very week for the weight of the plane. They get loose very quickly allowing tons of play
Really useful video, thank you. I have more than enough EDF Jets already, four of which are Freewing! However, based on past experience and your video I've pulled the trigger on this one. Added bonus: With the wings folded, it should fit neatly in the car in one piece, so no need to assemble it at the flying field :)
Excellent setup and video review, but I noticed you never activated reverse thrust to slow down on landing rollouts. Is it not very effective on this airframe, or did you run out of usable channels?
You should do a video on the FlyFans Su-27 twin 64mm. I fly many of the jets seen on your channel and the FF su-27 is the most agile and lightweight one I have. The fit and finish is nowhere close to Freewing but the handling makes it worth it
Been flying this bird for 2 weeks now. All the problems I had was the nose wheel steering linkage come loose over time. Other than that, this jet rocks!
I Maidened mine in 15mph cross winds and I was a nervous wreck trying to get it to land! I had to bring it in a little hotter than normal to land it safely
Wondering if you had to open up some space on the elevator servo pockets to get the hitecs to fit since the servo extension plug would have to be near the servo pockets with new servos compared to the stock servos that had extra long leads joined straight from the servo body
great review. I want to use a spektrum 10 channels as3x/ safe rx, and I was wondering if I can still use the stock board just for the gears and the wing sweep? and ail/ele/rud stabilized on my spektrum rx?
Hey Jon, thanks for the video. Love watch the mods you do to all your planes. I purchased the Du-bro wheels but I realize the rod needs to be much longer for those wheels. Did you find a rods that fits or did you just used a rod with the same dia. and a collar? Thanks
A most excellent review. Mine is all set up and ready for maiden. Just waiting for winter to end. Mine will be stock, using a Lemon 10-ch RX with no gyro activated, mounted at the front just ahead of the battery bay. I also have the FW 80mm F-14, which flies very well, no gyro, set up using much of RC Geek's parameters. (With this new 64mm, I think the 80mm will be discontinued.) Although there have been several crashes, there have also been many successful flights (on stock plane). I believe many of the crashes were from those who aren't as good as RC pilots/builders as they say they are. They don't understand how gyros work, how to test them before flight. It seems some don't understand what "gain" does or how that works. They don't understand the nuances of receiver brands, function, placement and testing thereof. (Like the fellow who uses CA to coat a thread that is wrapped around a plastic ball end - really?) This model is marketed for "intermediate/expert" RC hobbyists. Just because you've flown 200 planes does NOT necessarily mean you have progressed beyond "beginner", particularly when you lack the understanding of some of the aforementioned topics. I look forward to FW's Blue Bridge unit so that we can tweak the supplied gyro/flight controller (being able to tweak the gyro will help this plane fly better - the pre-set gains are inadequate for many flyers). The APP is already here. We just need that dongle to make it work.
Hope you enjoy it gyro-less - we prefer flying fighter jets with a gyro more for scale purposes than anything, but also to stabilize for turbulent wind conditions as seen toward the end of the vid. It gets gnarly here real fast, so flying gyro-less can lead to wrecks. Plus it's just more fun to go tail heavy and let a gyro make it stable enough to fly.
Wow! What a great video. Your visuals, editing, and voiceover work are all awesome. Great flying and information as well. I’m gonna set mine up using this guide!
@@TwoBrosRC hey Jon, I'm setting up my Tomcat right now per your guide. I didn't hear you mention any elevator schedule for when the wings are swept. Is any up or down elevator necessary when the wings are back? Thanks!
Confused about one thing, with the throttle based sweep mix, does that mean when you flick switch 1, when the wings are fully extended at low throttle, that they'll still have reduced roll?
I’m about pick mine up and I just have a question re land configuration. My field has a fairly tight approach and I did see a video of someone saying that with the wings half swept it was much easier to land as apposed to zero sweep and full flaps. Any thoughts??
Hey Jon, I had a question regarding the orientation of your 10360T. It was my belief that all new programmable AS3X receivers had to be mounted lengthwise parallel to the fuselage. But yours seems to work just fine in a perpendicular orientation. How did you achieve this?
