    My hair doesn't survive long with relaxers. Plus, there is a link between relaxers and fibroids. Not interested in chemicals of any form anywhere near my body.

      What about the people who got cancer and didn't have a relaxer? Diet, environment, and genetics are also to blame. Fake hair, lashes, hair products, and hair colors also have the very same chemicals. As a cancer survivor, I just want to let people know that there's other factors that you can get cancer from. I want us all to be successful.

    My opinion is that MY hair was easier to manage while relaxed. I natural after a protein overload broke my hair off. So far it’s been 4 years and, I still hate wash days! 3 hours for a silk press just for my hair to pouf up in 10 minutes 😢😂 definitely a love/hate relationship.

      Maybe you should think about heat training and loosening your bonds in your hair with heat? It won't revert then

    • @tracyc.1005
      @tracyc.1005 Год назад +5

      @@HealthyHairJourney Great idea if it works. I flat my hair faithfully and it still reverts if it gets wet, I have to dodge the rain and I can't sweat at the gym which is a huge problem trying to stay fit. I just can't seem to loosen my bonds enough. I've been flat ironing for almost two years, no breaks.

    • @justbeuneik
      @justbeuneik Год назад +2

      @@tracyc.1005 Maybe do light exercise to avoid sweating out your silk press? Daily activities that you normally do around the house can help keep you it shape such as walking up and down the stairs. Making sure not to be sitting down all day long. Monitoring food intake, Natural drinks and Detox teas have been keeping my weight at bay. Normally during the spring and summer I can do more intense exercises since my hair is curly in those seasons.

      I wait for it to get really cold before straightening my hair. October and November can be a tricky one. December through March I feel is the best time to do a silk press. I also like to keep on eye on the weather and prepare ahead of time. Got a scrunchie, silk scarf, silk head wrap, and 2 shower caps. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    I was relaxed for a long time as well. Far into adulthood and I very rarely had a pleasant relaxer application. I always came away with an itchy scalp on a good day or sores in my scalp. I finally decided to go natural in 2019 and it has been great. My hair is thick, healthy, and strong - everything that my relaxed hair was not. I would never go back to a relaxer, but I don't judge those who do, you have to do what works for you. Thanks for sharing.

    Love your vids! So i think I'm going to change it up again. I have the Revair dryer. I think I'm going to take out the flat iron steps and either curling iron or flexirod my hair. It look too thin when I straighten it with the flat iron. What do you think? Still waiting to hear how and when you use the Tresemme. Thanks.

    Hi - your hair is lovely - I too saw my last relaxer approximately ten years ago and loved the experience of discovering my natural hair. I rocked a TWA with a big smile. then as it grew out I rediscovered swimming which I love - swimming underwater like I was a mermaid and loving the feeling of the water in my hair. I also loved putting chiny bumps aka Bantu knots in my hair every night and unraveling them each morning to release the curls. For the past two years, I have been wearing my hair in locs which were baby ones to start and they now grace my shoulders. I am so pleased I embraced my hair but would really like to find a way to make them shine how straight hair has the light reflecting off it... On a different note I like your striped top - where did you get it from, please?

    Can you tell me how often should I blow dry my hair?
    I'm not planning to do flat iron at all

    I'm currently relaxed but wanting to go natural as a straight natural without doing the big chop. I'm mid-back length, almost waist length actually, so I know it will be difficult but do you think it would be doable not to big chop?
    Your hair is also really beautiful by the way!

    • @lmgeranaeava9749

      Hi! I did exactly what you're asking about! I went natural WITHOUT the big chop! I just kept my relaxed ends healthy and let my natural hair keep growing. (Like me, yours might actually start to curl and blend with your natural hair, and straighten perfectly and just naturally blend perfectly when your hair is straightened) Anyway, the secret is to use the relaxed parts of your hair to protect the natural hair as it grows out longer. (My hair is almost buttcrack length). Congrats on your length success also btw! Anyway, the BEST advice I have for you is to MAKE sure to keep your relaxed ends healthy, strong, moisturized and protected!!! By that I mean,
      1. Make sure to keep up with your trims when you see ANY splitting hair (You don't want damage to travel upward to your natural hair, you want to keep any damage contained to the relaxed ends, which is hair you can afford to lose, IF necessary)(You don't want any length sacrificed from your natural hair)(Don't use cheap scissors to trim your ends, make the investment in a sharp excellent pair of hair shears to keep from causing MORE split ends.)
      2. Deep condition ALL of your hair at least monthly. (Keeps the hair strong and elastic)(Don't use protein treatments, seems like your hair doesn't like that.)
      3. Wear your silk scarves and sleep on silk or satin pillowcases.
      4. Do styles that ensure your hair's safety (High buns and ponytails (Not too tight) Rollersets, Cornrows and twists, braid and twist outs, etc (that aren't too tight), Silk presses (with only 1-2 passes max that you stretch out into other styles without using heat again. Ex-Get hair silk pressed, then use wraps and rollers to keep the hair straight and styled),
      5. Don't listen to ANY stylist trying to tell you that 2 hair textures is HARD or difficult to deal with! They just want an excuse to cut your hair because they are STUCK in their ways and thinking.
      6. Don't go to a stylist that is scissor happy, and won't listen to what you ask for. Only trim your relaxed ends IF there is damage, other than that, you should have no problems with the two hair textures, ESPECIALLY since your planning to be a straight natural anyway.
      7. Keep up the excellent work!!!

      @@lmgeranaeava9749 Wow thank you so much for taking the time to give me such a detailed answer (and for confirming that it is doable and not crazy to wish to proceed this way! :))
      I hope you won't mind me asking a few questions. How often did you silk press in the beginning? I was thinking once every 2 to 3 weeks depending on how my hair feels with maybe a dry shampoo in the middle of it to extend it. And do you have any tips to soften the new growth? My kitchen area gets super duper dry and itchy and I'm running out of ideas to keep the new growth moisturized there. Do you have any holy grail products that you think I must have in this new journey?
      I kept pushing back going natural as hair stylists scared me and told me I had to big chop at some point but I knew someone out there must have succeeded with not big chopping!

      @@MzelleShona For me, I kept and keep my hair braided (because black hair grows fastest when the curl is stretched and pulled away from the hair follicle and scalp). You're doing the same thing with silk presses btw. Anyway, I only used to silk press my hair 1x a month or not at all because my hair needed and needs to be stronger/strengthened because I had covid hair loss so I'm heat free now. (My hair is growing super fast and making a come back-Thank God) Personally, I'd stay away from the dry shampoos because they've been shown to kill hair follicles and causes scalp issues and baldness, Google it because it was on the news about a month or two ago. Whatever you decide, please be careful. Honestly when your hair starts getting oily from silk presses, it's time to start remixing your silk press into another style aka Updos, Ponytails, etc where the oiliness of your hair doesn't matter anymore. A great schedule is: 1. Do or get the silk press 2. Wear it until it gets oily (usually about 2-3 weeks, and wrap, rollerset /flexirod, etc to keep the hair straight and curled) 3. Stretch out the silk press another week or so (with ponytails, updos, french braid, etc) until your wash day and silk press for the next month and restart the cycle.
      Tips to Soften new growth
      1) Use excellent conditioners like Dove Intensive Repair, Dove Pro Age (Red bottle) for your deep conditioning session. (These 2 conditioners work AMAZINGLY on both relaxed and natural hair. It makes my hair SUPER silky soft)(from roots to tip)
      BTW, Herbal Essences conditioner (coconut or rosehips), Aussie Moist Conditioner are amazing too. But my hair doesn't get as soft as when I use the Dove Conditioner.
      2) Invest in a steamer (Handheld, Facial or Hooded) and Steam your hair while deep conditioning it for 15, 20, 30, or 60 minutes. If you're cheap like me, you can do this overnight with a plastic cap instead of sitting under a dryer or steamer
      3) Deep condition your hair with heat (sit under hooded dryer)
      4) Hot comb your hair prior to silk press and that softens the roots with every silk press. Hot combing is a bit much for me.
      5) Clipping your split ends also softens hair.

      @@MzelleShona To stop the itching, you can put grape seed oil on the scalp skin, and massage until the itch goes away. This also softens the hair. Grapeseed oil makes hair soft and strengthens it, and so does mustard seed oil, and sunflower oil, BUT safflower oil makes hair SUPER soft also. (Just make sure to get the organic version of any of these oils) Safflower oil is best overall because it's cheap for a lot of it and not heavy at all. It's soo light and softening,, and won't weigh hair down the way grape seed or the other oils might. I use mustard seed and safflower oil to make my ponytails shiny, when stretching out my silk presses whenever I'm in the final two weeks or so prior to a wash day and the next silk press.
      Also, if you're in a time where you don't mind your hair reverting, you can spray aloe vera juice (organic) on the kitchen hair itself, then rub chosen oil on top of the hair itself, this softens the hair FAST.
