Just started playing this game today. I was showing my 5 year old daughter how I could fly over our house. When I was getting close she asked to go outside to see me fly over haha
Love this, i have a kiddo as well, but he's a little older and past that stage, sadly... cherish those wholesome moments as they slip away faster than you know it! Cheers!
As a hardcore racing and flight sim nerd, I wholeheartedly enjoyed this video more than a professional player. It's refreshing to watch someone actually take the time to learn, and understand the simulators. Very impressive for a new guy, Ace!
What people are not noticing or commenting on is that MSFS 2024 is not merely a flight sim--it's an Earth Simulator. MS has recreated the entire planet, down to weather, terrain, and animals & vegetation. As you note in the video, this simulator runs on MS servers which facilitates scaleability going forward. There's no reason why MS can't/won't continue to build out this world. They can do things like sell digital real estate, create real - world economies, etc. I understand the current interest is in the "game" aspect, but if you look beyond the immediate release features you'll see this may very well be a major step towards their entry into the "metaverse" arena. MSFS 2024 is undeniably a full-blown planet simulator.
I love some aspects of the metaverse concept and consider VR/AR/MR the future of entertainment and creativity, but the idea of having digital land barons/landlords/real estate companies trying to gobble up and put prices on everything shouldn't exactly be seen as a good thing regardless of how immersive things will become.
Too bad it's on Bing Earth, a bad copy of Google Earth ur flying through. That said this is also the best part of msfs to me, I use it as a virtual aeral tourist simulator. I might at some random time like 4am at night log in, roll the globe to where daylight is, hop into a plane and explore who the lucky bastards are. Cuz that's usually some tropical island while we are freezing here in winter, esp at night xD
@@BeardoBenjo I thought it funny how it changes from a smile to a surprised expression when you bounced off it. Yes it is very weird - only in Vegas lol
I went on a hot air ballon ride for my 12th birthday; The pilot almost flew us into some high tension electrical wires and then we crash landed in a suburban culdesac. All the neighborhood came out to see the ballon in the middle of the street. The company came out to pick us up in a van and refunded the cost of the trip.

Msfs 2020 used the same streaming for photogrammetry high detail areas, so you had the same popping in of detail (unless you saved the area to the local cache, which is still possible in 2024). Also the faster you fly, the more strain this puts on the internet connection to stream the details in fast enough for a seamless experience. All in all I've noticed an improvement both performance wise and visually in VR in msfs 2024, it's just a waiting game now while they get those bugs ironed out - a particularly annoying one for me right now are the career mode bugs, like ATC commands not responding, so it marks you down on missions for not following procedures (despite it not responding).

Of course photogrammetry, traffic and satelite imagery will stay on the server. Doesn't look like those options are available yet, but they are coming, you'll also be able to disable products from My Library as well.

this is the one game that playing in VR is truly transformative, as you can interact with the virtual controls directly and get familiarized with the machines. not to mention the gamepad bindings for it are godawful.
Most of the improvements are under the hood tbh, but weather and stuff should have been improved. I'll get it in a month or 2 after some patches. And as in 2020 my first flight will probably be around Blackpool tower lol then down the road to my ole town Preston. Then the fancy places lol

In game? I’m sure there is a setting for it, the settings in this game are overwhelming. However in VR if you press shift or click the right stick on your controller it re-centres your position in the plane so in theory you could just lower yourself, click the stick and then sit in a normal position to raise yourself slightly.

To get out of any vehicle isnt it Y on the touch controllers? Never managed to get it to work on XBox controller. It is very buggy, 2020 had the same issue but they patched it.
Ah I haven’t tried touch controllers yet, thank you I’ll give it a go. I’ve tried the keyboard shortcut, the controller shortcut and actually pressing A on the door handles of vehicles…. Nothing works 😅
@@BeardoBenjo I noticed swapping out controller for touch controls can soft lock the touch controls, normally going to menu fixed it, or coming out of VR and going back also fixes it.
Question: If detail is rendering as you fly, do you ever get to see a fully rendered object? Or will you have flown past it by that point? If so, then you are probably paying full rendering prices for partial rendering. Not a bad deal for MS.
I skipped buying into flight sim 2024 because of the server issues, and my own issues i saw with the previous version. i'm on a gigabit connection and installing using their installer, i saw 18-25MB/s and it took forever where as the Xbox app, Steam etc I can easily do over 100MB/s from. I can't say 2024 would be having the same issue streaming content in on the fly, but given that their servers didn't hold up for the first week didn't really bode well. I still will buy this at some point, but I think I'll have to stick with VTOL instead for the time being.
Ya know I still haven’t tried VTOL, unsure if it would be fun for someone like me who passively enjoys flight sims rather than being really into the finer details
How doeas meta 3 works in MSFS2024 ? Im considering to go for the Pimax Cysal lite instead. Is the cable conection works well, i stil have trauma from the occulus meta 2, that i putted in trash, fraky useless for MSFS. With the Strap, how it feels on face over time?
Are you using touch controllers (virtual yoke)? Or are you using a flight stick or physical yoke? I want to be able to control the cockpit PROPERLY with my touch controllers... FS2020 wasnt a great vr experience.
Benjo, could tell more about the set up you use to play this way, I mean, it's a tottle and joystick? can we play this flight simulator with quest 3 controllers? I have tested this in MSFS 2020 and it's pretty awful, the controller are note precise. they have fix that in this version? thank you.
I've learned more about the geography of my own city and how things are connected in two hours of free flying the camera in fs2024 than living here for twenty years..
Looking forward to seeing this in 6 months when, like you say, bugs have (hopefully) been ironed out. Have you tried getting out of the plane while it has landed properly rather than hanging upside down from a French tree or wrapped round the African bush 😊
5:06 you didnt download everything in 2020, in 2020 it was still streaming in the world around you, not as much as 2024 is but it was still doing a very very large portion of what you were seeing on screen. 2024, i think most or all of the planes are also streamed, along with the way more complicated world detail. so its not like its a whole new system or anything, just more major. the reason that in 2020 the game file was so big is it was downloading all those aircraft with high res textures and functions along with the detailed cities and airports it downloaded along with it, in 2024 it is all streamed in, which doesnt make much of a difference, because its such a small portion of the world. so no it would not impact the visual beacuse its still doing the same stuff as 2020. it can only be better because of the better terrain mapping and such.
The Problem of most .. too slow internet connection ... I have 600Mb/s and everything look way better than in 2020 ...Landscapes, Mountains, Water, sessions, snow, City's (try Vienna), Weather effect ... and you have to fly at sun rise/set! 🎉
I feel like the entire community is freaking out over the word "streaming", but that it's a highly misleading term to use. We associate streaming with pre-rendered video or perhaps audio content, but what is being transferred here isn't in any way pre-rendered. We're "streaming" the model data and traffic data and climactic data and so on, **just as we used to in MSFS 2020**. But we're now doing so in a way that's more efficient (by only transferring at the LOD currently required for any given model rather than every LOD at once on first sighting of the object), and we're doing it for a greater percentage of the game's content (because now patches/addons like world updates and city updates and first/third-party addons from the marketplace and so forth are "streamed" from server-side too, rather than being pre-downloaded locally like they used to be. We're streaming a small amount more data than before, but we're doing it more efficiently and it effectively cancels out. The issues we've been seeing are because unanticipated demand and some glitches have conspired to take down service and servers and left the whole sim struggling to function, but those are quickly being resolved now.
Hmmm I literally just connected the Quest 3 (via a wired USB to USB C connection), booted up the game and then switched on the VR mode in settings 🧐 I’m using the gamepass version on PC
@ yeah that’s exactly what I did but it says please verify that your computer is set up for mixed reality.. may be due to a windows update. Just don’t know how to get it working :(
@BeardoBenjo well worth a try, its unaturally good, some kind of wizardry. Remember to switch to AV1 in the streamer app, there is another setting next to it which also works pretty well.
@@BeardoBenjo forgot to mention the is an option in Virtual Desktop Streamer app to use Oculus run time so no SteamVR required so it shouls work fine with game pass.
Visually for me MSFS 2024 looks stunning. Sure if you are looking at photogrammetry in both sims, the level of detail is going to be the same. I never understood comparison videos which show the same photogrammetry in both sims? The lighting is very much improved and little details like roads and various ground clutter, radio towers etc, there a lot more if you look for in MSFS 2024. Night lighting is better too, but airport taxi and runways lights have too much bloom and needs refinement. VR performance for me on the Quest 3 is better also.
Yeah I must admit I could feel it at times, it’s definitely playable on my 4090 but it isn’t as smooth as I would like it to be. I wonder what the actually FPS is, need to check actually
I'm not interested enough in simulation to play this. I don't have enough time to invest in learning that. But if they did an arcade mode, in a way some kind of Ace combat game in MFS engine , I would love that
Wish they offered the ability to download the entire globe if you have the space. Feel like it would run better but would probably need a crap ton of storage.
I want this game only for this "career mode" aka lemme fly a helicopter and do rescue mission in high Alps or forest aerial firefighting! Have anyone tried those missions? Do you know games with purposeful flying? 24:30 This is Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany. Been there, it's a magical place, filled with german legends and eccentric luxuries :D
I can get a very decent experience on a 3080 in msfs 2020. People seem to have already forgotten that. Too obsessed with their 4090s! You just need to dial it in correctly
Are you able to play MSFS 2024 with a casual arcade style flight model? The thing I didnt like about 2020 was that flying was really awkward and janky even with all of the difficulty settings turned off. And you mention it on the forums and everyone just gives me a bunch of shit about it, telling me to just play a different game and that this is not a game, but a simulator. Like okay but I could just have fun flying around cant I? I dont know..
Mine just crashes in VR and the motion stops working after 10 mins . Well disappointed. Running PSVR2 9800x3d FA NVIDIA etc 4080s. New build pc. Never had any other issues running games on max settings
they really should make it so if you have the hdd space then you're able to permanently download sections of the world. otherwise you really are paying to rent the game. plus if the world map really is that large in terms of data, then is it much better to download it all every time you want to see some of it?? if its hundreds of terabytes then someone who uses it a lot is going to be downloading terabytes of data that just gets deleted when you close the game....
I’m just trying to rationalise it, I can’t figure out why this doesn’t look as good as 2020 and why it looks NOTHING like any of the promotional trailers or the little loading screen sections that I watched 400 times last week 😂 I’m hoping it’s due to an over reliance on the streaming of assets and we need more balance between locally stored elements & streamed ones but who the hell knows. Fingers crossed they can right the ship, I’m sure it’ll be great in half a year or so 😅
@@BeardoBenjo i know also didnt mean you ❤️ And that it doesnt look like the promotional videos is simple These are tricks we use to sell games to the player were we crank everything to the max in engine to then make renders Somthing i always have bin against but wjat is one voice in the industry not to keep doing this
Thanks, but no thanks. Not for a long time. I'm still perfectly happy with msfs2020 on a rtx3080 and a G2. An upgrade to a 4090 machine with a Crystal and this new sim would be around $10k right now. I can't see the improvement in VR quality being a $10k jump or anywhere near that!!
On my pico 4 the game looks a lot better the msfs2020. The contrast is way better. The brightness of the sphere compared to the darkness around it would have been impossible in msfs2020 on my pc.
Sad part about this simulator is it uses bing maps which bing in my opinion isn't great. buildings in Las vegas here are all so messed up with garbled geometry and all. as someone who would play it to just view scenery or play missions. i think this is disappointing. but i understand it's not a game. as microsoft says it's not a game, it's a simulator and they have no intention of gamifying it. Which i find weird because as a simulator it has it's issues too, 2020 at least had horrible ATC, a lot of issues with various instrument panels not working properly, and i had nothing but problems with auto-pilot and routes not working and breaking all the time. I remember using a mod that used google instead of bing and it was a big improvement in 2020
you have the game on your disk, only the currently needed data is downloaded from the server. I suspect that few people will want to have an offline game whose area alone takes up 2 petabytes :D but if you want, free up some space on your disk :D
Yeah I use it a lot personally but I tend to record with Quest because it lets me use the Oculus Mirror software which has a built in stabiliser for VR footage. Means my gameplay capture is smooth and doesn’t judder/shake like a lot of VR footage you see. So I’m usually in a Quest 3 in videos because I prefer the way capture looks

Ah I haven’t tried touch controllers yet, thank you I’ll give it a go. I’ve tried the keyboard shortcut, the controller shortcut and actually pressing A on the door handles of vehicles…. Nothing works 😅
Xbox conroller is left bumper and B at the same time.
@@BeardoBenjo I noticed swapping out controller for touch controls can soft lock the touch controls, normally going to menu fixed it, or coming out of VR and going back also fixes it.
@@natedisrud doidnt work for me unforntuanely, only touch controls. The controls are very buggy, the same hapoened with 2020 but a patch fixed it.
i have a quest 3, do i need an external applications to get VR working good?
No, you can use the link cable or air link. I prefer virtual desktop, works the best imo
Question: If detail is rendering as you fly, do you ever get to see a fully rendered object? Or will you have flown past it by that point? If so, then you are probably paying full rendering prices for partial rendering. Not a bad deal for MS.
Had you setup your avatar when you were trying to get out of the vehicle?
My avatar still appears as the scary red man with the error sign 😂😂😂 maybe that’s it???
you should try DCS... Cairo looks amazing in the Sinai map.
Ya know I still haven’t tried VTOL, unsure if it would be fun for someone like me who passively enjoys flight sims rather than being really into the finer details
the light does not emit and interact with the aero plane? like I see no yellow and shadows created by the sphere in the plane cockpit
I didn’t even know this was a thing. I wouldn’t go to work if I had this.
Hey Ben does Gamepass stream this via the Cloud? My PC would never survive trying to run this, but it's essentially my dream game.
Can you use your hands in vr to touch the in cabin buttens and controls
The Problem of most .. too slow internet connection ... I have 600Mb/s and everything look way better than in 2020 ...Landscapes, Mountains, Water, sessions, snow, City's (try Vienna), Weather effect ... and you have to fly at sun rise/set! 🎉
I feel this... im playing on starlink lol but it's not terrible tbh
24:58 With the background music is a very dramatic last moments scene.
How do you get quest 3 to work? I just get an error :( something to do with windows version I believe
Just don’t know how to get it working :(
@moem7018 did you download the meta app on your pc?
Superman mode wud be nice '')......Blue Thunder Mode for the city '')
it would be fun to have multiplayer passengers
But can you still fly or taxi through trees, like you can in 2020?
The trees have absolutely no collision whatsoever 😂 you can go right through them
Dude, Do you know where can I see the beautiful Aurora in MSFS2024?
Just curious are you playing it with airlink or Links cable? Or are you using Virtual desktop with the new AV1 Quest 3 selected in the streamer app?
I’m using a link cable here, haven’t tried it with virtual desktop yet, using the PC gamepass version so Steam Link isn’t an option for me sadly ☺️
Could you make a video of your Quest 3 link cable settings for Quest ODT please?
Game is awesome. Terrain Detail 400 gives u the ultimative immersion. 20 fps with 4090
20fps is unplayable
It’s pretty good in VR I just wish the FPS was higher
Yeah I must admit I could feel it at times, it’s definitely playable on my 4090 but it isn’t as smooth as I would like it to be. I wonder what the actually FPS is, need to check actually
Thinking of getting a pc with a 4080 super in it, will that card run this game in VR?
You just look at the door handle, interact, and get out, just like in NMS.
CAN YOU MAKE A TUTORIAL TO SETUP META QUEST 3 VR FOR MSFS 2024? IT WOULD REALLY HELP.
I'm not interested enough in simulation to play this. I don't have enough time to invest in learning that. But if they did an arcade mode, in a way some kind of Ace combat game in MFS engine , I would love that
Is a walkaround now possible in VR? Or can you land anywhere and get out to walk around in VR? Does anybody know?
Are you forced to have a copilot or passenger?
The castle is Neuschwanstein Castle in southern Germany
Hey beardo have you played madison vr so yeah where can I watch you play
i'm yelling at the video shift+C shift+C to get out of the plane!
Wish they offered the ability to download the entire globe if you have the space. Feel like it would run better but would probably need a crap ton of storage.
Few petabytes yea
I want this game only for this "career mode" aka lemme fly a helicopter and do rescue mission in high Alps or forest aerial firefighting! Have anyone tried those missions? Do you know games with purposeful flying?
24:30 This is Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany. Been there, it's a magical place, filled with german legends and eccentric luxuries :D
I wanted to say Germany but I wasn’t sure and didn’t want to make an arse of myself 😂😂
Can we get the camera views to work in VR you couldn’t in 2020.
Las Vegas looks the same as it did in 2020.
It is looked 2D to me compared to MFS2020
My question is can i get a decent VR experience with a 4070 super?
I can get a very decent experience on a 3080 in msfs 2020. People seem to have already forgotten that. Too obsessed with their 4090s! You just need to dial it in correctly
Works great for me in vr with a 3090/10850k/Varjo aero setup.
Never had any other issues running games on max settings
you can hire at ryanair if you like
It’s crazy you can’t get out of I accidentally got out my first flight with vr and I was headed down the runway and my plane kept going.
this is so cool
they really should make it so if you have the hdd space then you're able to permanently download sections of the world. otherwise you really are paying to rent the game. plus if the world map really is that large in terms of data, then is it much better to download it all every time you want to see some of it?? if its hundreds of terabytes then someone who uses it a lot is going to be downloading terabytes of data that just gets deleted when you close the game....
A cool game similar to this but with worse graphics on meta standalone is called "Fly" its really cool, you fly in a drone instead of a plane.
Dont let the streaming be a excuse the may sell you 2020 also uses cloud streaming and this is not the peoblem at all
I’m just trying to rationalise it, I can’t figure out why this doesn’t look as good as 2020 and why it looks NOTHING like any of the promotional trailers or the little loading screen sections that I watched 400 times last week 😂 I’m hoping it’s due to an over reliance on the streaming of assets and we need more balance between locally stored elements & streamed ones but who the hell knows. Fingers crossed they can right the ship, I’m sure it’ll be great in half a year or so 😅
@@BeardoBenjo i know also didnt mean you ❤️
And that it doesnt look like the promotional videos is simple
These are tricks we use to sell games to the player were we crank everything to the max in engine to then make renders
Somthing i always have bin against but wjat is one voice in the industry not to keep doing this
23:23 Germany, Bayern/Bavaria, Castle Neuschwanstein
to get out of the plane you need to OPEN THE DOOR lol IT WILL AUTO YOU OUTSIDE
To get out, you can just look at the door handle and press A 🤭
Thanks, but no thanks. Not for a long time. I'm still perfectly happy with msfs2020 on a rtx3080 and a G2. An upgrade to a 4090 machine with a Crystal and this new sim would be around $10k right now. I can't see the improvement in VR quality being a $10k jump or anywhere near that!!
A crystal is garbage. Look it up. Dont believe all the flight simmers out there.
You should add a female Copilot in your Cockpit. So nice😍
You can choose you Copilot at Menu/Settings for your "Avatar"🖖
On my pico 4 the game looks a lot better the msfs2020. The contrast is way better. The brightness of the sphere compared to the darkness around it would have been impossible in msfs2020 on my pc.
Its a Data Cap Killer
Google Earth has a VR mode of the entire Earth and it's free!
I remember using a mod that used google instead of bing and it was a big improvement in 2020
The purpose for the streaming is to reduce piracy.
MSFS2024 is usable yet for real pilot sim.
My god did you see the size of his ear hole?!? Kick him out!!!!
I didn’t but I’m gonna have to go back and check now 😂
I know right! As soon as i saw it i just thought, imagine the size of earbud that guy would nead lmao
Give Virtual Desktop a shot, it is LIGHT YEARS better than Quest Link.
👍
You can’t fly through the spokes of the wheel, but you can bounce off them in a helicopter just like in real life…….😬😬🙈😂🤣
Great video thanks! It is streamed? WTF? So you don't own it and need to be always online and are dependent on their servers? This is lame.
you have the game on your disk, only the currently needed data is downloaded from the server. I suspect that few people will want to have an offline game whose area alone takes up 2 petabytes :D but if you want, free up some space on your disk :D
do u use PSVR2 sometimes?
Yeah I use it a lot personally but I tend to record with Quest because it lets me use the Oculus Mirror software which has a built in stabiliser for VR footage. Means my gameplay capture is smooth and doesn’t judder/shake like a lot of VR footage you see. So I’m usually in a Quest 3 in videos because I prefer the way capture looks
